DeveneyLet the Good Times Roll… Let’s get our Patience ready….
Here’s hoping my 2nd year of filing Injured Spouse goes more smoothly….CH1978Hello apparently my 2014 was miscalculated by turbo tax as far as my standard deduction and child tax credit so I owe back 2000.00 to irs. Notice say money is due by jan 28th unless I set up payment plan. Tax season opens on the 20th will they deduct money from return? The notice said if their findings are not correct to sign paper and send documentation. So is it a offset able debt yet if it’s not a final bill yet? Just want to know will they just take the money
JennaMy ex and I have a court order saying he gets to claim our son in the odd number years “as a dependent for federal and state tax purposes.” I didnt claim him as a dependent, but claimed him for EIC because im the custodial parent and he lives with me more than 50% of the time. He is taking me to court now saying he gets to claim EIC. Who is right?
2015 Injured Spouse
And the madness begins…
AnonymousI use Walmart never had any problems. But I think it will only allow 10,000, so I recommend you get 2 Walmart cards and split your deposit. The black premiere card is awesome, I get my payroll a day early. It’s a $3 fee Everytime you withdraw money unless you get cash back at a register. Also there’s no fee on the black card to load money. The other day I went to buy money orders totaling 1,048 and I was able to pay with my Walmart card, so if you need to pay stuff just go make money orders so you don’t get charged the $3 fee to withdraw. I’ve used it twice for tax returns got my money on my DD around 4 am. I am in Texas and their bank is in California so that makes sense that my deposit goes in around 1 am Santa Barbara time.
UpsMANinMIWhat’s the best card out there with the least amount of problems for a large dd such as this? I remember horror stories of funds being held, stuff having to be faxed in, etc. any help is appreciated.
EthanI just filed and I hope this year does not prove to be a waiting game
Lol of course I’m here: ) I can’t imagine life without my IGMR peeps : )- I’m anxiously awaiting on my accepted email: )
Wow I see all the old gang is here….mary, Cindy, rocky, Michele, Jemar rnd so many others. Let’s get the coffee going and get this party started. Going to be an interesting tax season for sure!
Hi Jasvan70 and Rocky38! I remember you from last year. Can’t believe it has been a year already. I got my w-2 today and tested out HRB, TurboTax and Taxact. TurboTax gave me the best refund because they said the insurance penalty was waived but the other 2 tried to charge me $100 because my husband didn’t have insurance last year. Also HRB tried to charge $9.95 because schedule EIC was not available on the FRee edition. What crap. I used Turbo Tax last year and was not disappointed so I happy to stay with them again this year. I was so tempted to hit submit but I do need to wait on a form 1099 from selling some company stock thru my job. I only sold a little over $400 last year. Does anyone think it would hurt me if I didn’t claim it?
NYCteachermomIm reading everyone’s responses and I can’t wait to get my W2 next week (hopefully). I have all the information stored in TT and am just waiting to do the income part. I hope to get my refund on the 5th. It’s that a realistic goal?
*Waves* Popping in to say Hi (and bookmark ;) ) — ready for the new year of crazy. Hopeful that this year is smoother then last!!!!!
Filed through freetaxusa.com for the first time!
Just filed through TT, hoping all goes smoothly. Child tax credit and education credits. keeping fingers crossed
AnonymousJust filed mine through freetaxusa. Hoping for a smooth process.
I’m ready! Just filed with tt. Last year mine were delayed with the whole Tennessee hub mess, but nothing major! Hoping for another smooth year for all of us! I don’t know what I would do without you guys!!!
pat mmy hr block says federal e file contined is anyone else getting that
Ready, filed, and biting bails lol metaphorically anyways. Didn’t know I could get an education credit for kids in college on grants
DanserusseFiled 1/6/15 Freetax USA, EIC, child tax credit. Here’s hoping for a smooth year!
AaronI noticed someone said they were not going to file for the education credits because it may delay their return. Is there something I haven’t heard about causing a delay in processing a return? It didn’t tell me on Taxslayer it would cause a delay.
AnonymousOne thing I did not do because I was afraid of being delayed is the Education Credit, american opportunity. My son is a college student and all his tuition and room and board is paid by scholarships/grants, however I do pay his books, computer, expenses. I did qualify for 1000 credit but I did not take it I was so scared of being delayed, etc…. So I’m bummed about that since I could’ve used that extra grand, who cant? But oh well, maybe I can amend it. What proof would I need? We dont get the 1098 form since his education is paid for with untaxed dollars.
AnonymousJust filed TT, eic and child credit. I did the free version, since mine is simple. Hopefully it’s a smooth process…..now the waiting begins and stalking all the pages, lol!!! This is my first year filing this early, so I hope I made the right choice. I usually filed right when the irs “opens”….or the night before and I’ve been accepted then.
YaminahI have most of the information ready. Im going to wait until the 20th so I dont get caught into trouble like otgers did last year. At least I can have it on the 1st date.
AnonymousForms for eic were there today it went through but asked me some weird question on some worksheet I’ve never seen before. Answer was zero so hoping it won’t affect anything. Never submitted this early before but want it in and money back lol.
beckyI just entered as much as I could. I am debating about submitting it. Last year I remembered people who submitted early having issues of it being held up once they opened. What do you think? Should I submit it,to be held in queue for when IRS opens???
forgot to log in I am rob in kansas
rob in kansasyear 3 as well tons of fun waiting with you guys last few years. filed fed and state just now may the ride begin
Mine just went thru as well…. HOOORAAAAH !
Try again I just filed with TT simple 1040 with two dep and EITC and forms were there. It went through
DanielleJust e-filed with Taxact, use it every year and have no problems at all! Here’s to hoping we have our money in 3 weeks!
pat mhr let me go all the way thru today.
AnonymousTurbo tax wouldn’t let me either. Said the eic forms won’t be ready till the 8th and nys til the 16th. Hoping the nys won’t delay them at least accepting my federal tomorrow
patdid you get thru to e file turbo tax will not let you e file till the 8th
Tom@MRS
We’re in the same boat. Our Where’s My Refund switched to “21 days for processing” as of 12/17, and the date we were given by a Tax Advocate for our holdup being cleared as 12/18, so… hopefully soon!
When we were told 12/18, they said that this problem affected every person who submitted an Injured Spouse and had old debts covered by this company — apparently a computer glitch caused the Injured Spouse forms not to be processed, and they have to wait until it’s fixed (and the Advocate’s Office can’t give emergency refunds because when it gets fixed, it’ll direct deposit it automatically).
JanelleJust e-filed with Tax Slayer….I hope I make one of the test batches for an early refund! (crosses fingers)
AnonymousYes! Im ready for the adventure with you guys!! :) 3 years strong!!
Tina1001Just got refund in August for 2013,. Hope this year is a little smoother.
Yes ready willing and able
Ready and filed through TaxSlayer this morning! Hoping to get in early with the hub testing.
AnonymousDefinitely ready. Mine are ready through turbo tax just waiting until they say it’s ok to file. Something about eic forms not being ready yet
JohnI’m so ready this year. Filed early last year and irs took slightly longer to accept but all was well. Has anyone efiled through tax slayer yet? Finished my federal and was asked if I’m ready to efile. Not sure if I should wait till irs actually opens this year or just do it now.
CaseykI have a question. I owe about 300 on a student loan to my state that is to be offset. When I call the federal offset number the debt is listed. I am certain they told me they would only take my state return as it should well cover it and then some. Why would they offset my federal as well? When there is an offset, does it take a longer time to get your refund? Thank you.
Honey I was born ready….lol
Timberowlhttp://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/Tax-Season-Opens-As-Planned-Following-Extenders-Legislation-2014
“The IRS will begin accepting tax returns electronically on Jan. 20. Paper tax returns will begin processing at the same time.”
http://www.irs.gov/Refunds/What-to-Expect-for-Refunds-This-Year
“The IRS issues more than 9 out of 10 refunds in less than 21 days. . However, it’s possible your tax return may require additional review and take longer.”
Ohhhhh it’s just the WAITING I can’t stand!!!!!!!!
The MRS.We filed our return in April 2013…as of January 2015, we STILL don’t have a date. I WISH our wait was 14 weeks. Well, at least we know what to look forward to THIS tax season, lol. Wish us luck!!
JessO@jasvan70It sounds like things are on schedule. No one really knows the starting date. I have read. Most likely by Jan 20th but have heard mid Jan is possible.

You do not mind ?AnonymousDid your refund go to your card ok last year?
ShermondriaI called the IRS and the agent said my 2013 was adjusted on December 11 but the check is not due to go out in the mail until 12/31!!!
I can’t believe this people are actually sitting on my check for 3 weeks!
To the person mentioning the transcripts, my record of account shows the refund cycle 20145202 and the date of 1/12/15. The guy said the checks come out of Austin, TX.
Akpmommy4I am soooo ready. I am doing my warm up exercises as we speak!! Igmr always helps take the stress out of the process so now that I’ve added the page to my bookmarks,… LET’S GO!!
scarlettI think “Raquel” was being sarcastic due to the attitude you showed in your first reply.
“To the person asking about interest….it is NOT 3% a day, good grief” You could have expressed that a bit differently. That being said, thanks everyone for sharing all this great information with us.I just wonder where/how will I report the interest when e-filing…..On what line?
Does anyone know?Again, don’t be snarky if you don’t like other people doing it to you.
CJR38Yes, the interest is taxable. And, why the apparently sarcastic, “ok, genius”? People here are trying to help each ither out and share information. Comments like this one suppress any desire to help.
RaquelOk genius. Can you please share wether or not are we going to pay taxes on the interest money?
Thanks.
CJR38About interest…. i found a reasonable answer to question. Interest is calculated at an annual 3% rate for the days that have elapsed since return was put into system, minus 45 days. So, if you mailed an amended return for 2011 on, say August 3, 2014 and the IRS logged it into their system on August 13, 2014, there’s no interest on any refund due calculated for 45 days from August 13th. After day 45, simple interest (as I understand it at this point) accrues at rate of .03/365 per day until the time an IRS guru approves the refund. So even though the govt may have had your extra money for years, you only get interest on it if the IRS takes more than 45 days tp process your return and approve a refund. So most of the time, a refund will get no or a very few days’ worth of interest. Hope this helps. I found it interesting, so I’m glad someone asked the question.
CJR38Helpful hint: if you call the IRS number noted on the Where’s My Amended Return website, do so as soon after 7:00 AM as you can reasonably expect someone to get their coffee and sign into a work station. The waits times are much lower than in afternoon…..2 to 7 minutes, as opposed to an hour or more.
Another hint: the website to check amended returns (Where’s My Amended Return?) is NOT up to date, no matter how often you’ll read this and hear this on robo calls. My return was processed Dec 3, according to an agent, and the website still shows the return as not having been processed….three weeks later. Apparently, many returns get shunted to some special place for processing, and there’s no feedback to this update website.CJR38Called IRS again and was finally given a date the check is scheduled to be mailed. IF they mail when they said, total time will have veen 5 months from receipt to refund. Pretty bad service, if you ask me.
To the person asking about interest….it is NOT 3% a day, good grief….it is 3% (annual rate), calculated for each day….so you’re looking at, roughly, .03/365% a day for each day . I don’t know when they start calculating interest, but if you’re like me, the govt has had a lot of extra money of mind for 3 years, and I didn’t get a cent of interest on it.shaquitaFile my taxes on turbo tax they were received feb 4th 2014 and never seen a status bar til yesterday Dec 22 2014 and my boyfriend just got a status bar too anyone knows if that is a good thing or not any info please help
RodWhat are the starting dates for this year?
Jbishop1001I’ve been ready for a long time, YES!
AnonymousHey Jasvan!!! Doing some stretching and warmups for the upcoming tax season lol trying not to catch a cramp lol
Going to be another wild year! I Hope things run smoothly. Don’t like what I heard today from irs chief but I think he’s just raising s ruckus with government over their budget cuts. So thankful we have IGMR. Over the years it has been much more informative and reliable than any place on the web. I will be doing my snooping and digging the Internet to help out as usual. Miss you all and see you soon!
SamI amended years 11,12 and 13, which they got in mid August. I spoke with an agent last week when my 16 weeks were up and he told me no to worry, that the IRS pays interest on the refund. According to him they pay 3% per day and it starts accruing 45 days after they got your amended tax return 1040X, and that they stop it once the check is issued. I’ve look all over the web to see how they compound that daily interest but to no avail, I would like to know (if you don’t mind) Did they pay you interest in the refund you got and if any how much over, was it substantial?
Thanks.
CJR38I filed amended return for 2012 in early August 2014. They received it, as noted on website ‘Where’s my amended return.’ I kept checking website but no change until 12 weeks passed, then the website notification was to call IRS..wait on phone was over an hour, but then got an agent who reported there was nothing wrong, just that the filing required combining two tax returns. I refiled as married filing joint for 2010 and 2012 after DOMA sections declared unconstitutional. The 2010 was completed in a few weeks and we got a refund. The 2012 one, however, has now been outstanding for over 18 weeks. An agent told me on a second call that it showed as having been processed in early December, but still no check. Wondering if other same sex couples are running into extreme delays in processing. This was not a complicated filing. Also wondering if getting a transcript will shed any light on the issues.
Joe De AverageHi guys,
I have a question that would like some answers here. Hope you guys can advise since it’s Thanksgiving tomorrow and IRS decided to close early which is typical and i totally understand that. Anyways, I filed my tax return for the year and claimed my niece and got the credit for the claim. Without realizing the fact that my grandparents claimed her as well on their tax return because she stayed there longer than six months so i wanted to amend my return using the 1040X. I completed the steps and will send the difference owed to the IRS next week. Here comes the question, my grandparents never received the fund for the year (yes, i just found out) it’s been on hold or pending or whatever. Now since i will be correcting this issue and sending in the 1040X, will the IRS complete their return and provide the return to my grandparents for whatever the amount they are entitled to? Please advise guys.. thanks a lot.
Psychmaj2I filed amended return for 2013 and mistakenly listed the wrong computation method although my amount was right. The IRS corrected the amount (which really was not the part that was wrong). I refiled and mailed another amended return on 6.13.14 explaining that I really used a tax worksheet to figure my tax instead of the tax tables. I go to Where’s my Amended return and always get a message to call in. Every time I call, which has been three times so far, I am always told they need another 30 days. This is RIDICULOUS!!! One tiny error. If they would’ve contacted me the first time instead of trying to correct it on their own, this could’ve been avoided. It is now 11.24.14 I STILL do not have the full amount of my refund. Does anyone have any idea who to write a letter or send an email to about this situation? I don’t have time or the patience anymore to sit on hold for an hour or more only to be told I have to wait another 30 days.
AnonymousI filed my return and it was accepted on 2/2/14. I was entitled to a $5300 refund. When I called to check on the status a couple of weeks after it was accepted, the system kept saying it was being reviewed. 90 days later, I got a letter saying they needed more information. I sent them receipts, cancelled checks, travel logs, expense trackers, etc. They were overnighted. Now, 200 days after initial acceptance, I call to check on the status of my refund. It said that my return has finished processing and no refund is due. I then call to talk to a person. They informed me that not only do I not get my large refund but I now owe them almost $4000. The lady who was reviewing said that she did not accept any of my deductions even though they had receipts to back up each and every one. I am so angry at this point. Do any of you know of any lawyers or anything I can do about this? When I told the lady I was getting a lawyer, she told me “The State of Mississippi is sovereign.” This is ridiculous.
deederGot ddd for the 20th with code 203….hoping an praying I don’t get offset…definately need $$$ right now..
