@kristen1983 I filed on 2/1 and my bars and tt disappeared a day or two after they started processing the returns with EITC. I called to get a tax advocate because my situation was really bad financially. Things went pretty quickly once I spoke to the tax advocate appointed to my case. It was a couple of weeks after that. If you don’t have an advocate than my situation really wouldn’t provide much information for you.
@Trev since you have an offset it’s probably going to take a little extra time for you to process. I’d search this forum for partial offsets and see if you can find out any information on how much that held up deposits. Good luck!
@Trev I just checked GoBank and my deposit is there. Good luck!
@Tia I got my tax topic 152 back and in under a week I got a DDD for tomorrow. You will likely get a DDD for 3/28.
@Trev did you have someone do your taxes for you and owe a fee? I think only those refunds go through SBPT. Since you have an offset you could see a delay, though. Mine still hasn’t hit either.
@Trev I’m not sure about that, but I also use GoBank. I haven’t gotten my DD yet either. I will post on here as soon as it shows up.
On the Tax Advocate page on the bottom left area search for a local TA phone number and call them. The people in that office can actually give you a bit more information and assign you to a TA if needed.
Actually, my situation is just as bad, if not worse than yours. I deliver food and packages for a job. My car broke down on January 21st and don’t have the money to fix it so I can’t work. I filed on 2/1 and still don’t have my money but have a DDD of tomorrow. I was locked into a special price for Direct TV Now that I have lost that will cost me $300 a year from now on. I have been threatened with eviction and having my utilities turned off and have not been able to work for two months. I am a single mother with a disabled child. Oh, my car could be repossessed any day, too.
Because I have a severe hardship I got a Tax Advocate who has helped me get my hold released.
I was trying to provide you information that could help you because I actually understand EXACTLY what you are going through…but thanks for being an a$$.
Call your local Tax Advocate office for help. Based on what you are saying they can expedite getting you your refund.
I also have a DDD of 3/21 and used GoBank. I haven’t gotten my deposit yet.
March 17, 2018 at 1:35 pm in reply to: Post here if wmr says Your tax return is still being processed #4240573@newtocali The 3 day deadline is for communication, I believe, so the IRS is supposed to respond to the TA within 3 days. It sounds like your TA was just unsure if the IRS would release your return yesterday or this upcoming Friday, then. I’m pretty sure that my TA said that the released returns only go back into the system for processing/acceptance on Fridays and refunds are sent out only on Wednesdays. That means IF the IRS released your refund yesterday then you should get a DDD of 3/28, the next Wednesday at the latest I would think.
March 17, 2018 at 12:13 pm in reply to: Post here if wmr says Your tax return is still being processed #4240548@newtocali Is that the first time you talked to your TA? The 3 day deadline could be depending on what the response is for or could be based on how many cases they have ahead of yours. For me, the 3 days was to respond to her to tell her what they need from me in order to release my refund. Again, I don’t know if that deadline adjusts based on how busy they are or not.
She’s probably giving you the maximum time frame it could take. Mine told me that for a time frame too but I pushed for earliest possible and latest possible times. Upon being pushed in that way, saying that I know I can’t hold her to anything prior to the last possible time frame, she told me that she thought I would most likely get a direct deposit on the 21st, and she was right. Depending on what day they released your refund you could be as early as the 21st and as late as the first Wed. in April, but more likely the 28th unless your hold was released on the 9th like mine, then should be the 21st I would think.
March 17, 2018 at 9:34 am in reply to: Post here if wmr says Your tax return is still being processed #4240510@youngsfamily I first spoke to my TA on 3/6. Once your TA requests that the IRS release the hold they have 3 days to respond. Did she tell you that they released the refund yet?
March 17, 2018 at 9:19 am in reply to: Post here if wmr says Your tax return is still being processed #4240501OK guys…here’s some hope for those who have a tax advocate who has told you that the IRS has released your hold on your return! WMR updated for me overnight and it now has TWO BARS!!!! and says this: Your tax refund is scheduled to be sent to your bank by March 21, 2018. If your refund is not credited to your account by March 26, 2018, check with your bank to see if it has been received.
Thank GOD my wait is almost over! I’ll let everyone know when the deposit hits!
Sadame, that’s the same date the IRS first released my return and I got a DDD of 3/21 according to my TA so you are likely to be the same.
@Dgirl If your hold is lifted today then your refund should be approved next Friday and then you should get a DDD of 3/28 if it goes like mine did.
March 16, 2018 at 10:52 am in reply to: Post here if wmr says Your tax return is still being processed #4240221UPDATE: My Tax Advocate just called to let me know that my account now has a DDD of 3/21.
It has been about 10 days from the time my Tax Advocate first started working on my case and when she called me this morning to tell me that I now have a DDD. I should have my refund within the next 5 days.
The IRS released the hold on my refund last Friday the 9th. My WMR changed the following Monday morning from not having a TT 152 to having one. My DDD or 3/21 showed up to my Tax Advocate today but it has NOT appeared on WMR yet. I can’t view transcripts online so I can’t answer any questions about any potential changes in those.
So…if you are working with a Tax Advocate and the IRS released the hold then you should have your money soon!
March 15, 2018 at 8:49 pm in reply to: Post here if wmr says Your tax return is still being processed #4240143@StrugglingSC My tax advocate told me that my hold was released last Friday and that I should have my refund no later than the 28th but probably by the 21st. Once released she told me it takes 5 to 7 days to process. She told me that deposits are released on Wednesdays, so the next release date is the 21st.
March 15, 2018 at 7:22 pm in reply to: Post here if wmr says Your tax return is still being processed #4240119@Nesza0215 No, I don’t have a DDD yet. I only got my TT152 back on WMR on Monday morning. I have a tax advocate who only needed to verify that I had insurance all year and the IRS was supposed to manually release the hold. That’s what they told her on Friday afternoon. I got my tax topic 152 back after that. She told me that once they release the hold it takes 5-7 days to process through the system and approve my direct deposit. She said I should definitely have it no later than the 28th but thinks the 21st is more likely, perhaps even earlier.
I will be updating people on here as soon as I see anything new on WMR or get my refund to give everyone else an idea of what to expect.
March 15, 2018 at 4:24 pm in reply to: Post here if wmr says Your tax return is still being processed #4240060@AnneRL If they don’t pay us by 45 days after the filing deadline they have to pay interest to us.
What does your WMR show? It could be that the mistake was made by the bank and not the IRS. Either way…someone is going to figure it out and you’ll have to pay it back. Keeping it and spending it will earn you a felony. That means your butt goes to prison and your kid/s get taken away. I advise you not to spend it.
How long it takes depends on how quickly they release the hold. My TA requested mine to be released on Friday and when I checked WMR this morning my Tax Topic 152 was back after having disappeared for 3 weeks. She told me I should definitely have my refund by the 28th but she expects it to most likely be the 21st and that there is a slight chance I could get it earlier. My TA also told me that after my return is processed after the hold released it takes 5-7 days for the deposit.
March 13, 2018 at 11:57 am in reply to: Post here if wmr says Your tax return is still being processed #4239324I just spoke to my Tax Advocate and learned some new information. There was a problem with my Schedule C form importing, but the errors department was able to fix it.
The hold on my refund was released on Friday. When I checked WMR this morning I got my tax topic 152 back, so if you got your tax topic back that is a good sign and may mean your return is no longer on hold.
I was told that I should have my return by the 28th at the latest but that the 21st is more likely. There is a slight chance it could be deposited tomorrow, but she thinks that may be too soon. I really hope it comes tomorrow because my landlord will start eviction proceedings in two days.
Crossing my fingers. I’ll post to let everyone know about any changes to WMR and when I get my deposit to give others an idea of what they can expect.
March 13, 2018 at 4:16 am in reply to: Post here if wmr says Your tax return is still being processed #4239175My WMR changed over the last couple of hours…I still have the same message and no DDD but for the first time in over 3 weeks I have tax topic 152 back.
Welcome to the club. I filed with Turbo Tax on 2/1 and was accepted on 2/1 and I still don’t have my refund or any movement on WMR. I have had a tax advocate for over two weeks now, too.
Welcome to Trump’s IRS…
March 12, 2018 at 5:50 pm in reply to: Post here if wmr says Your tax return is still being processed #4239044@sweetpea if you claimed EITC and live in a place impacted by a hurricane, flood or wildfire and you made less money this year than you did last year then you are allowed to use your income from last year to figure out your Earned Income Tax Credit this year. If that is what your tax preparer did then it wasn’t a mistake. My tax advocate was NOT familiar with this special was to determine the EITC amount, so yours may not be either. I believe it’s explained in Tax Publication 976 on pages 14 and 15.
March 12, 2018 at 5:46 pm in reply to: Post here if wmr says Your tax return is still being processed #4239042Shari, call one of the local TA phone numbers and not that God awful main line or transfer with pin.
You can find local numbers on the bottom left part of the Tax Advocate web page.
March 12, 2018 at 5:22 pm in reply to: Past 21 days and still no DDD or refund? Please read this! #4239031@Michael in SC I’m over 50 years old and have been doing my own taxes most of my adult life. I have never had this happen before. The IRS workers will tell you completely different things each time you call. I spoked to at least 4 IRS people, as many as 6 and none were consistent. The Tax Advocates can see more but even they don’t seem to know exactly what it is you need to do based on looking at your case. It’s almost as if there was some kind of bug in the system that kicked a ton of people’s returns out of the system and now they need to do them manually or something. It’s one thing if the system glitched out or something…that can happen…but leaving so many people completely in the dark and violating the Tax Payer Rights they are bound to adhere to is just complete negligence.
Wow…apparently if you mention a certain useless presidents last name your post automatically gets put into moderation. I tried to post something about how long I’ve been waiting with nothing in any way that warrants moderation. At the end I said “Welcome to Tr*mp$ IRS..” or something to that effect.
Mentioning that is a valid point since he is too busy tw**ting to find people to run important govt. depts like the IRS!
March 12, 2018 at 4:12 pm in reply to: Past 21 days and still no DDD or refund? Please read this! #4238992@Michael in SC My adult daughter gets EITC and CTC and she filed the same time you did and got her refund 2 weeks ago on February 26th. The IRS people are just making things up because they don’t even seem to know what is going on. I did read that the IRS will not process any returns that don’t address health coverage in some way.
I can’t post the link but this is from the IRS webpage:
“IRS Statement on Health Care Reporting Requirement
For the 2018 filing season, the IRS will not accept electronically filed tax returns where the taxpayer does not address the health coverage requirements of the Affordable Care Act. The IRS will not accept the electronic tax return until the taxpayer indicates whether they had coverage, had an exemption or will make a shared responsibility payment. In addition, returns filed on paper that do not address the health coverage requirements may be suspended pending the receipt of additional information and any refunds may be delayed.”I only just saw this today. Apparently the IRS extended the time companies had to submit those to the IRS to April 2nd. That could be the cause of some of the delay for people.
March 12, 2018 at 12:44 pm in reply to: Past 21 days and still no DDD or refund? Please read this! #4238885OK, so I’m seeing using Turbo Tax and not getting insurance through the Marketplace and both W2 and 1099 income as a theme so far. My adult daughter used Turbo Tax and didn’t have marketplace insurance but she only had 1099 income as she is an independent contractor. She didn’t file until just after the 15th of February, though.
March 12, 2018 at 10:33 am in reply to: Past 21 days and still no DDD or refund? Please read this! #4238818@justagey was your letter regular mail or did it come certified? Also, were you self employed and did you take any deductions?
Our similarities is Turbo Tax, WMR message, both W2 and 1099 and no marketplace insurance unless you were also self employed and took any deductions.
March 12, 2018 at 10:28 am in reply to: Past 21 days and still no DDD or refund? Please read this! #4238814Date Filed:2/1
Date Accepted:2/1
Message on WMR:
Your tax return is still being processed.
A refund date will be provided when available.
(no tax topic)
Did you get a transcript? Not yet
Have you Recevied a Letter? No
Do you have a Tax Advocate? Yes
What company/software did you file with? Turbo Tax Self Employed
What credits did you claim? EITC
Were you self employed? Yes
If so, did you take any deductions? Yes, standard mileage deduction and phone
Did you have W2, 1099 income or both? Both
Did you have Marketplace Insurance? No, because I have a disabled child we receive medicaid.
Do you live in a place impacted by a hurricane, wildfire or flooding in 2017? Yes, and because I made less income than the previous year my EITC was based on the previous year income due to a special program this year if you were impacted by a natural disaster. As of this date I have no DDD. It has been about 40 days or so since I filed.
March 10, 2018 at 6:59 pm in reply to: ID verified 2weeks ago. Then received 570 and today 971. Anyone else? #4238525You need to have either a credit card or home loan to view them online, I think.
I was told that when your return has been kicked out of the system that your transcripts aren’t going to show anything significant. If you have an advocate and they said they are calling Monday then they will call you Monday. They can see exactly what is going on with your case and can contact the IRS department that has your return directly. Once they contact the IRS they have a set amount of time to respond. I think it is 3 days. Waiting stinks, I know, but the advocate is going to be able to give you more answers on Monday than the IRS run around will give you.
You’re welcome, good luck!
Actually, I never received a letter. I have NOT been told what I need to do. I have NOT been told that I’m under review. It’s going on 6 weeks since I filed and until yesterday morning I didn’t even know if someone from the IRS was looking at my case. They are looking at it now and all my advocate asked me was if I had insurance or not, which I did, not through the marketplace, didn’t claim anything for healthcare at all.
The reason some people are mentioning a class action lawsuit is because the IRS is violating the Tax Payer Rights…the right to know what we have to do to fix the issue. The IRS has NOT told many of us what we need to do. Heck, every time I have called they gave me nothing at all. Even with an advocate I’m still not clear on what I have to do. I don’t even think the advocate is to be honest. If you think this kind of nonsense is acceptable then you have incredibly low standards. I don’t.
You need to call a local Tax Advocate. Your return got kicked out of the system and the normal IRS people won’t be able to tell you much, but an Advocate can tell you exactly what is going on. Don’t call the main number, you’ll be on hold for hours and get hung up on before connecting. Pick a local office near you and call that.
@Rachel I totally get it. SIngle Mom here too…and I have 4 kids, 3 of which are adults now. I know all too well how rough it can be, and can totally relate to being half a month late on everything. Don’t let them transfer you to the advocate line…just skip the IRS completely and call one of the local numbers. It doesn’t even have to be the closest one to you. If you leave a message they will call you back the next day.
March 9, 2018 at 8:03 pm in reply to: Post here if wmr says Your tax return is still being processed #4238295Nesza0215 Maybe it depends on your situation. I know that I called the IRS 4 times and got told 4 different things and got zero answers about what was the issue or what I had to do. I called the local advocate and was called back the following morning. They were able to see my return and that it had been kicked out of the system and would have to be processed manually and could be a couple of months before it got processed without an advocate. I got appointed an advocate and they called me a few days later on March 6th. They called me again this morning with an update. It’s possible my refund could have finally been processed today…hopefully. I am 100% confident I would still be waiting if I had not gotten an Advocate. It doesn’t take longer when you get one…it just takes your case out of the hands of the regular IRS workers that don’t tell you anything at all when you call them. The Advocates can contact whatever department has your return directly, person to person and give deadlines by which they MUST respond, so you are no longer at the bottom of the pile…you get moved to the top.
Rachel, call the number for a neighboring state. I’m in Florida but my Advocate is based out of Atlanta. I didn’t have to provide any proof of hardship. I gave a verbal account of my situation, and that was enough. But my situation is that I need my car in order to be able to work and it’s broken down and I haven’t been able to work for 6 weeks, so I have zero income and am at immediate risk of losing utilities, my car being repo-ed, getting evicted, etc. I’m not sure how bad your situation is but they didn’t make me prove anything.
Rachel, are you calling the same local tax advocate office? If so, call a different office in your state.
March 9, 2018 at 3:27 pm in reply to: Post here if wmr says Your tax return is still being processed #4238193Nesza0215 when you have a Tax Advocate and your case is expedited the IRS has deadlines they have to meet to respond to each request the Advocate makes. That means they can’t just leave your return sitting at the bottom of the pile. They could ask me for additional information but from here on out they have to do things in a timely fashion. Having an Advocate makes a huge difference.
March 9, 2018 at 11:57 am in reply to: Post here if wmr says Your tax return is still being processed #4238056@Ashley, I never received a letter. I filed on 2/1 and was accepted on 2/1. I got the generic message on WMR that my refund is still being processed and a deposit date will be given when available…no tax topic and all my info on the side. According to TT I was supposed to get my refund by 2/22. On 2/23 I called and they could see nothing. Multiple calls, holds about 12 hours of talking and holding with at least 6 people and no real information. Because I have an extreme hardship situation they tried transferring me to a Tax Advocate which just kept on hanging up after making me hold over 2 hours. I called a local tax advocate office and they opened a case for me. A few days later I got a call from my Advocate who contacted the “errors” department to expedite my case. They replied to her late yesterday and she asked me about insurance and told me she would be following up with them today to answer their questions and then they should only have to enter in a code and then release my hold. If they do that right away as she is going to ask them to do then she said I should have my money within a couple of cycles. She said she can’t guarantee that, only that it would be her best guess.
Posting this again without the link to the Forbes article about the class action suit I referenced. The original poster was obviously saying she thinks a class action suit for the mess this year could be warranted.
As for your claims for why you are here…if that’s true then stop being an a$$. That’s what you are being. You have no idea what others are going through and you are just being unnecessarily MEAN.
NY315 I guess that recent class action lawsuit against the IRS where they lost $175 Million dollars was just make believe.
Stop being a troll and insulting people. Attacking a person’s spelling is petty and juvenile.
You assume that everyone earns enough money to be able to set money aside. That’s not the case.
And finally…it says a great deal about the kind of person you are to come on this site and belittle, insult and attack people. Is your life really that boring and empty that you have to get your jollies by being an internet troll? That’s so pathetic…pipe down, Chachi.
@Jackie Just keep in mind that happy, well-adjusted people with full and productive lives don’t come onto websites like this and take sick pleasure in the struggles and misfortunes of others. Likewise, they don’t go online just to attack, insult, belittle, demean and make fun of people who are struggling. Think about that for a moment…what kind of people behave that way? I’ll tell you what kind of people DON’T do that…people who have their lives together and are as “awesome” as some of these tools THINK they are.
March 9, 2018 at 9:11 am in reply to: Post here if wmr says Your tax return is still being processed #4237908I just got a call from my Tax Advocate this morning. The IRS responded to her late yesterday about my case. Apparently they asked her about insurance. My child is disabled and has medicaid and because I am a single mother and her only provider/caregiver that coverage also extends to me.
My advocate seemed to be reading the information about insurance to me instead of explaining it herself.
The “explanation” for this issue appears to be that “Because of Obama you were required to have insurance last year, so the IRS needs to verify you were covered the entire year.” (not exact words, but that was the gist of it.)
Then my advocate explained that to manually process my return they need to enter some kind of code about my insurance coverage. She said she can’t guarantee anything but believes I should have my return by 3/23.
So, has anyone else heard the IRS blame Obama for the delays? *Insert Massive Eye Roll here*
I’ve seen many people on here with PATH credits that are still waiting.
@b_nacworth I filed 2/1 and was accepted 2/1 and I have EITC and still didn’t get my refund. My advocate kept trying to insist that my EITC amount is wrong but that’s because she had NO CLUE about pages 14-15 of Publication 976 regarding people from areas impacted by natural disasters. I faxed her the pages with relevant sections highlighted. So, if you get a tax advocate or anyone tries to tell you that your EITC amount is wrong and you live in an area impacted by a hurricane or the California fires and your income went down from the year before tell them to look at pages 14-15 of Publication 976. You can use last year’s income to determine your EITC if it gives you more of a credit.
March 8, 2018 at 3:07 pm in reply to: Post here if wmr says Your tax return is still being processed #4237604@sweetpea…my advocate had no clue about the special rule for people impacted by hurricanes in 2017. If your income went down and you live in an area impacted by a hurricane or disaster you can use last year’s income to figure your Earned Income Credit Amount. If you would get more based on last years income then you are supposed to use that amount. It’s on line 66 or 66a.
March 8, 2018 at 3:05 pm in reply to: Post here if wmr says Your tax return is still being processed #4237592Tax Advocate office reached out to the IRS resolution dept. telling them to process my refund immediately two days ago. The IRS still hasn’t done squat.
The inept Trump government on full display.
In 7 days my landlord will start eviction proceedings against me and my disabled child. I drive for Uber and Amazon. On January 21 my car broke down. My starter needs to be replaced. I have not been able to work since then. I got my final 1099 on Jan. 31st and filed my taxes on Feb. 1. I have missed 2 car payments and that is about to be repossessed. My electric and internet is about to be turned off. I am about to be homeless with a disabled child.
I have spent over 12 hours on hold or on the phone with the IRS and they can’t even tell me what the bloody hell I need to do to get my refund.
For some people this may just be an inconvenience but for me it’s about losing EVERYTHING or being able to pay my bills and get my car fixed so I can actually work and survive. I have every right to be furious and you can bet your sweet patootie that if there is a class action suit over this freaking “fuster cluck” of a tax year you can count me in.
As of yesterday mine is not sent yet. My WMR says that my refund is processing and I’ll get a deposit date when one is available with no tax topic. Basically mine has not even been processed. If yours has been sent is it possible it was taken for student loans or something? If you want to talk to an advocate call one of your local offices and leave a message. They usually call you back within 24 hours.
In 11 days they will hit the 45 day mark for me. If I don’t have my refund by the IRS will have to start paying interest on my refund.
I filed and was accepted Feb. 1st. I have a tax advocate and my case has been expedited but I only got a call from the advocate yesterday. She wasn’t even familiar with the special rule/method for figuring EITC for people in areas impacted by hurricanes. Even the advocate couldn’t tell me what I need to do. It’s incredibly frustrating. I think the IRS should have to pay a penalty to people they are late paying. The rest of us have to do that.
I filed on 2/1 and I was essentially in the same boat other than my Tax Topic 152 and one bar disappeared over two weeks ago. The regular IRS number can’t see anything wrong. I called a local tax advocate line and they saw what the issue was and set me up with a case. I’m supposed to hear from someone by Wednesday or call back. I called another number I found online that has an extension listed and that person referred my case to the error dept as well.
I’ve had 3 people mention a letter and two say there is no call for a letter.
I am over 50 years old and I have NEVER had such a horrendous tax experience before. The agents have no clue what’s going on for the most part. I attribute the problems to the fact that this current administration is completely incompetent.
March 5, 2018 at 2:23 pm in reply to: Post here if wmr says Your tax return is still being processed #4235682I already have been referred to a Tax Advocate for extreme financial hardship but the IRS has a legal obligation to keep all of us informed about what we need to do if there is a problem and they are NOT doing that. There have been class action suits they have lost before and if they don’t get their crap together I’m sure they’ll have another one this year.
You need to do a Schedule C and try to claim some deductions if you can. If you use a home office you can take that and if you do delivery you can deduct mileage. If you happen to drive for Uber you can use Turbo Tax Self Employed for free from a computer if you log in to the website.
March 5, 2018 at 1:49 pm in reply to: Post here if wmr says Your tax return is still being processed #4235652@Anne if I lose my car, get evicted and end up on the street with a disabled child because the IRS can’t get their finger out of their a$$ and honor their obligations to at least TELL ME what the bloody hell I have to do to fix this then yes, I will contact a lawyer and see what legal options I have.
I’m on the verge of contacting an attorney. I know my tax payer rights have been violated. I filed 2/1 and was accepted 2/1. About 8 hours on hold to still have NO solution or answers about when I’ll get my refund or even what I have to do to fix this mess.

Called IRS several times, told different things, spent almost 8 hours on hold, still have NOT been told what the hell I need to do to get my damn money. Was referred to a Tax Advocate for SEVERE financial hardship and told if they don’t call me by 3/7 to call them at a specific local office.
Still waiting.2/22 was 21 days from filing.
3/8 will be 21 days from the day they started sending out EITC refunds. If I don’t have my money, a DDD or specific instructions on what the frick I have to do by 4pm on 3/8 I’m contacting an attorney. I am being held up because my employer from 2016 who I last worked for on December 21, 2016 paid me my last check for work I did in 2016 in the first few days of January in 2017 and NEVER sent me a W2. I can’t even access it because it’s held hostage online under an old work login that I don’t have access to anymore.
In the meantime…my car broke down the last week of January. My only job at the money is delivering for Uber and Amazon, so I can’t work until I fix my car, which I can’t do until I get my refund. I’ve lost my phone service already. In about a week my electricity will be shut off. In 10 days I will be evicted. My car payment is very late now and could be repo-ed any day. I owe less then $200 to pay it off.
At this point I am beyond pi$$ed.
@PamF88 I will make sure that I post any updated situation or news that I get so that at least my experiences can help the next person. This is such a hot mess. I really suspect that the current administration just dropped the ball on this and didn’t hire enough people. On top of that…changing things right before tax time is just idiotic. God do I miss Obama and a competent government.
March 3, 2018 at 8:36 am in reply to: YOUR TAX RETURN IS STILL BEING PROCESSED – EITC & ACTC #4234888Lili..mine has been stuck on “Still being processed refund date will be provided when available” with no tax topic and all my info on the side for a couple of weeks now. I’m waiting for a Tax Advocate to call (due to call by the 7th) so they can speed it up due to extreme financial hardship. My car broke down over a month ago and I deliver with my car for work, so I haven’t been able to work for over a month. I don’t have rent money, I already lost my cell service, my car is about to be repo-ed, my utilities are about to be shut off, I will be evicted in 12 days if I don’t get my money and I’m losing my special DirecTV Now rate I got for signing up early…a savings of $30 a month.
I’m so angry over this.
I initially had tax topic 152 with 1 bar until WMR updated for me after the 15th. Then I got the message that my refund is being processes and I’ll get a deposit date when it’s available. All of my info is on the left side but no tax topic anymore.
I was assigned a Tax Advocate. I have two issues with my return…I left a job before Christmas 2016 and I was never sent a W2 for that company so I assumed I didn’t receive any pay for 2017 since I didn’t work at all in 2017. That was missing ($300-$400) and the second issue was my EITC amount got an error as being the wrong amount. I think this is because my income was much lower due to hurricane Irma and people impacted by hurricanes are allowed to take the EITC amount from last year as an alternative method. I think it’s the EITC that booted my refund out of the system and has it stuck in limbo. If you are from a state impacted by a natural disaster that could be your issue.
March 1, 2018 at 12:50 pm in reply to: Post here if wmr says Your tax return is still being processed #4233858Rick, I didn’t get a letter either. Do you live in a state impacted by a hurricane and claim EITC?
March 1, 2018 at 12:39 pm in reply to: Post here if wmr says Your tax return is still being processed #4233845I was assigned a Tax Advocate this morning and my initial conversation during the intake process provided me with some information. I have two issues…one is that the employer I stopped working for before Christmas of 2016 reported wages for 2017 that was between $300 and $400 but they never sent me a W2 for it and since I didn’t work for them at all in 2018 I had no idea I had income from them to report.
The other issue I think could be related to much of the ridiculous number of “random reviews.” I live in an area impacted by a hurricane. My income was less this year. There is an alternative method to figuring the amount you get for EITC IF you live in an area impacted by a hurricane and you earned less than last year. This will check to see if your EITC amount is lower than last year and if it is you are supposed to receive the amount you got LAST year. Mine was lower, so Turbo Tax software adjusted my EITC using that alternative method. The IRS system kicked my refund out because it found an error on my EITC amount.
So…what I think is happening is that people whose EITC was figured using that alternative method triggered the hold for review. I have no idea what error code that is, but I know for certain that part of why my refund got kicked out of the system is because my EITC total does not match what the IRS systems thinks it’s supposed to be.
How many of the people under review live in an area impacted by a hurricane and get EITC? If so, I suspect that the alternative method explained in the below link I’m providing could be triggering reviews if your EITC amount goes up under the alternative method.
How many of you live in a state that was impacted by a Hurricane this year? I THINK that some of us are being put in review because of the special EIC adjustments given to people whose income went down and their EIC amount is lower this year than it was last year. I was given a Tax Advocate and this morning my local Tax Advocate office told me that my EIC amount gave an error. I also had another unrelated issue, but because the EIC amount also didn’t match and the special hurricane EIC adjustment applies to me I think that might be triggering others as well.
March 1, 2018 at 9:52 am in reply to: No refund and no answers? Were you impacted by Natural Disaster? #4233730Lili, did your EIC amount adjust to a higher amount because your income went down from the previous year? Mine did, substantially, due to Hurricane Irma. My EIC amount was adjusted under this rule: https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/many-hurricane-victims-qualify-for-earned-income-tax-credit-special-method-can-aid-workers-whose-income-dropped
I am wondering if the IRS system is just flagging these returns because the EIC amount is higher than it normally would be.
March 1, 2018 at 9:07 am in reply to: Post here if wmr says Your tax return is still being processed #4233684Update on my situation…I called a local Tax Advocate office yesterday morning and left a voicemail and got a call back this morning. The person I talked to set me up with a Tax Advocate case, gave me a case number and took down all the info. Finally he was able to tell me what is going on! At the end of 2016 before Christmas I went on medical leave from a job when I got admitted to the hospital for a possible heart attack. I ended up leaving the job and didn’t think I had gotten any pay in 2017 since I didn’t work at all for them in 2017 AND I never received a W2 from them. In fact, all I got was a 1095-C from them…on Monday of this week and I NEVER had insurance with them at all. So, a company I didn’t work for at all in 2017 claimed wages they paid me without sending me a W2. Since I didn’t get a W2 and didn’t work for them at all in 2017 I didn’t realize I had $300-$400 more income. There was also supposedly an issue with my EIC amount. When I first filled out the form the amount was less but because I live in a place impacted by Hurricane Irma the TT software made an automatic adjustment that people from natural disaster zones are supposed to get to let them claim the amount they got last year. So, those two things are what kicked my return out of the automatic system. So, for those waiting…if you live in an area impacted by a natural disaster that could be why you were tossed into review. Thankfully I now have a Tax Advocate who will be calling me no later than 6 days from now.
March 1, 2018 at 1:25 am in reply to: Post here if wmr says Your tax return is still being processed #4233533Erika…I spent over 6 hours on hold with a transfer pin and referral to a tax advocate because I have an extreme hardship case…my car has been broken down for a month and I drive Uber for work so I can’t work until it’s fixed. My car is about to be repo-ed, utilities turned off, already lost my phone and I can’t pay my rent so I’ll be evicted too. I also have a disabled child. I filed on 2/1 and have talked to 4 people…two said they show a letter and 2 said they didn’t. All 3 times they transferred me with that transfer pin I was stuck on hold (borrowed phone) for 2 hours and 15 minutes and the system hung up on me without reaching anyone. This has happened 3 times. I called my local Tax advocate office and only got a recording and I left the number of the phone I borrowed for a call back…supposed to be within 24 hours. Any advice on what to say or ask for?
I meet the criteria and was approved but they are so busy I waited on hold for 6 hours and got booted off the hold system after 2 hour waits THREE times. I still haven’t connected with an advocate and my situation is so dire that I’m going to lose my car and get evicted. If anyone is hoping a Tax Advocate will make it faster…not likely since they are impossible to even talk to.
Good luck actually reaching an Advocate. I spent over 6 hours on hold after doing intake, getting referred, given a transfer pin and then transferred THREE times…and each time at the 2 hour to 2 hour and 15 minute mark they hung up on me and I had to start over. Two days and I STILL haven’t connected with an advocate and my car has been broken down for over a month meaning I can’t work. My phone got turned off, my broken down car is about to be repo-ed, my utilities are going to be shut off and rent is due in a few days and I don’t have it and am at risk for eviction. Oh…I have a disabled child too. Each of the 4 people I’ve spoken to in the process of trying to get help tells me something completely different. Two mention a letter, two say there are no letters or problems listed. I don’t know what the hell to believe at this point. I just know that I’m furious. Oh, today is day 27 since being accepted.
February 28, 2018 at 2:17 pm in reply to: Post here if wmr says Your tax return is still being processed #4233226If the issue with so many people is as simple as software not updating and it will be fixed without us having to do anything then they need to COMMUNICATE that to people so they stop calling wondering what they need to do. SO much for the Tax Payer Bill of Rights…they’ve violating those in multiple ways.
