CONGRATS!!!!
I would love to hear from anyone who has a bank credit/prepaid credit pending AND also shows an 846 code date on their transcripts…
Anybody have both?
Sorry – I’m posting this in a couple of places…
To anyone who has seen a credit pending in their bank accounts or prepaid cards: do you also have an 846 code on your transcripts?
@tryingtopatientlywait I did not use LookBack this year.
To anyone else with an 846: are you using a prepaid card or credit union for your refund? If so, do you already see the income pending credit?
To anyone who IS seeing the credit: do you have a code 846 on your transcripts?
Would love to know if anyone who has already seen a pending deposit also has an 846 date on their transcripts.
If transcripts are to be believed, I have a future-dated code 846 of 02/22/21

Don’t stress. My AS OF and Processing dates both say 03/08. I still have an 846 (updated today) of 02/22. No refund yet, but that 846 usually means I will see it on or before that date! (EIC/ACTC PATHer)
Ditto on the 846 of 02/22 – updated just before 8:30am CST

Cycle code 20210701Filed 1/30 accepted 2/11. Still no transcripts for me. Assuming the IRS is just going in order received which is why mine have not updated yet?
I think that’s true, yes. Other filers are reporting the same. Hang in there! Keep checking!
@Mercedes If the previous years & transcripts are any indication – if things work the same way this year – then that is extremely likely, yes!!
P.S. JUST CHECKED and I DO have a code 846!!! Was not there last night/this morning at 3AM local. (CST) There now for 02/22!!!
Processing date is 03/08/21; AS OF date is same. CYCLE is 20210701Hi there, for sure PATHER with EIC/ACTC. Transcripts all available yesterday, with no new 846 codes as of 3am this morning. Checked again just now, and I DO have an 846 for 02/22
I have 3 kids, y’all. FOR SURE delayed PATHer.
FILED 01/16; ACCEPTED 021/10Uhhh, you guys…
No future-dated 846 last night (checked at 3am local). Woke up this morning with an 846 of 02/22
That’s…that a DDD right? This is so great! Thank you!! The bit about all versions of the transcripts being available to download was especially exciting; turns out mine are :D Ok, so, look for NEW 846 code for the most likely DD date, the rest is kinda meh-ish. Got it! Thank you!

“Refund delays: If you claim the EITC or ACTC, we can’t issue your refund before February 15.”@fjbar75 – the IRS actually said early filers could have it by the 22nd!

“Refund delays: If you claim the EITC or ACTC, we can’t issue your refund before February 15.”I did want to mention that when I looked at the time of filing, the IRS website regarding EITC/ACTC and PATH Act restrictions read differently than it currently reads! They updated on 02/01/21. Previously, the site made no mention of the 02/15/21 earliest-issue date, nor did it say anything regarding an early filer DD date of 02/22. I find these changes very very encouraging.

While it does, it is also a lot to read. With ADHD, it can be easier to have very concise answers to basic questions. But definitely an excellent resource!
I haven’t been able to post, so this is a test

Your comments are the ones that have given me the most comfort that maybe I don’t need to stress. Thank you.
I was kidding. Just trying to bring some levity.
@spookyrides Love the typo. From now on, I’m referring to myself and all other EITC and CTC filers as “The Panthers.”

No receipt or acceptance notifications just yet.
Agreed. This is an excellent place to come to spot patterns and trends. I would agree that, between the codes noted here and on Facebook, this pattern indicates that this error is presenting for something other than it’s intended purpose.
That said, Debbie, I would also advise against feeding the trolls. ;o)
Hey, all! Adding myself to this list (filed & accepted on 01/16/19; got 9001 today 01/18)
Just to offer hope and help, it does seem to be happening to most folks who have filed early with more than one SSN; it could be an easy-fix glitch, but no one is there at the IRS to resolve it; and this is something that both The College Investor site and IGMR Admins have addressed in recent years. Check out the link below:
https://igotmyrefund.com/forums/topic/2019-reference-code-9001/
Found on The College Investor site (reputable information blog):
“What IRS Code 9001 Really Means
The actual code tells you exactly what it means – you filed a tax return that had multiple Social Security numbers attached to it. Typically, this is a husband and wife, but it could also include children as well (you never know, adult dependents may be checking the status of the refund). When you file your tax return, you have to specify a primary taxpayer, and the spouse or children all are secondary.”Additionally, “The IRS has an entire manual dedicated to errors and problems that they encounter… For the most part, codes less than 2000 are related directly to your return. Anything higher (like code 9001), it’s related to something totally different…”

I paid my fees up front, so I was really hoping it would be pending/available in the bank today, but no dice. 22nd means 22nd this year for bank users.
BANK: BB&T (mid-sized East coast bank)
FILED: 01/18
ACCEPTED: 01/19
WMR DDD: 02/22 (updated on 02/15)So, not technically an early deposit, because the funds aren’t available yet, but calling the automated phone system I learned there is a “Pending Future Deposit” for Feb 22nd.
Spoke with the bank rep, and she explained that, similar to payroll direct deposits, the merchant or company may send an indicator that money WILL be deposited on your payday, but they don’t send the actual funds until the indicated date.Either way, call your banks, ask about any future deposits. Maybe you will feel better, like I did, just knowing that THEY know. LOL
@ScarletBegonia and anyone else unclear about transcripts:
The IGMR folks (specifically @Kimikaze ) wrote an article that helps explain what your transcripts can tell you about your refund and DD date.
See https://igotmyrefund.com/groups/transcript/forum/topic/transcripts-can-tell/Essentially, yes, the 846 code date indicates when you can expect your refund.
@Ron
Absolutely! Don’t stress, there are lots of posters and people on multiple forums whose PATH act messages updated to the “…processing…” on WMR, just like yours. Me included. 😀
A lot of those same people ARE able to view transcripts online, and are seeing code 846 updates. Many of them have a deposit date of 02/22, but not all. What you should take away from that is that the “processing” message on WMR is not a bad thing!
@Ron
Go to https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript (the IRS website for Get Forms)
You can get various Form 1040-series transcript types online or by mail. If you need your prior year Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) to e-file, choose the tax return transcript type when making your request. If you only need to find out how much you owe or verify payments you made within the last 18 months, you can view your tax account.
To view online, though, you need to have a current or recent credit card, loan, or mortgage to verify your identity.

WMR updated (02/14) with DDD of 02/20/18HOWEVER, he has a definitive offset every year which absorbs his entire refund.
For those who have waited on the dreaded PATH message, I am seeing a lot of 846 codes with correlating DD dates of 02/22/18.
Do you all suppose that will be the actual date of deposit to bank accounts? Or is there someone with plenty of experience with these 846 dates that can say whether they are exact or not?
“Yes,” to the statement that the feeds are becoming less about updates & information.
If you have a firm understanding and conviction about when your information will update, wonderful! Please share it! Once shared, you may get follow-up requests for more info or clarification. Other than that, it will help end confusion & keep threads focused if posting participants only respond to questions rather than opinions. If you have concerns about the validity of info shared, or to go further, if you are worried about intentionally misleading or malicious info/comments, report the posts or participants to the Keymasters of the site.
Finally, from a personal standpoint, if you genuinely believe there will be no new updates before February 17th, and have shared that belief here, your time may better be spent helping or focusing your attention elsewhere. Other participants here may simply need something to occupy their minds & time until they have more concrete information on their refunds. A little hope never hurts.
“We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.” MLK Jr.
@Ing It is completely normal for the amount to go away with the PATH message. Don’t worry!
I am so sorry! Again, I’ll admit to avoiding the forum a bit in order to avoid DDD envy.
Ok, your letter 0012C signifies the need for additional information before processing your return: that can mean missing forms or documentation, along with a couple other things:
“We need additional information from you to process your tax return.
We are sending you this letter because we need more information to complete the processing of your individual income tax return. This information can include:Missing forms or schedules to support your entries on Form 1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ
Verification of income, withholding, and credit amounts
Documentation to reconcile advance payments of the Premium Tax Credit (PTC). Please refer to PTC page for more information about letters regarding advance payments of the PTC.”Also, as far as delays:
“…If you’re entitled to a refund, we’ll send it about 6-8 weeks from the time we receive your response.”So, it does appear as though something additional was required, either because it was missing from your original return paperwork, or they needed to verify something specific. Audit? I would say no, but I would also say that I haven’t personally experienced the audit procedure.
Send what was requested by the most convenient method (fax, email, or postal mail), and then be patient. Set your expectations appropriately for the delay.
GOOD LUCK!Julie, this is a common message anyone claiming EITC or ACTC will see this year. It’s just to inform you of the reason your information is delayed. Keep checking! You should see something new around February 17th or later.
P.S. For anyone who filed a 1040A this year, line 43 on your return would reflect any ACTC amount.
@Yess: Did you file on your own, or through a tax preparer or software?
@Sam I can only speak to the “if you have been (an offset) in the past” part of your question:
I had an offset from my state 2 years ago. Both of the following years, I’ve been daily.
My partner has a federal offset of his total refund each year (Department of Education), but I haven’t noticed if that makes him weekly or daily, to be honest. He doesn’t bring in the cash, so I quit paying attention. =oP
Anyone else here have a Federal offset that seems to have switched them from daily to weekly?
@Dan
So sorry for the delayed response! I’ve been avoiding the site a bit to tamp down my DDD envy. ;-)
To directly answer your question, Dan, in the literal legal sense, no one claiming EIC or ACTC will see movement on their refund before mid-February. That’s the party line, anyway. HOWEVER, I really think you could see an early deposit. Here’s why:Just from the patterns I’m personally noticing in my research, it seems that those from the Test Batch** with EIC only** (meaning no ACTC) are seeing earlier DDD dates already (1/29 and 1/31, so far). However, it appears those with ACTC or an offset are seeing varying messages (Topic 203 or the PATH act notification message).
My thoughts are – if you have consistently filed for & received EIC in past years, and got into the early test batch this year, you may have the optimistic chance of actually getting an earlier deposit into your account! This is only the second year with the PATH delays active, so we’re all kind of feeling it out as we go.
As for those with the PATH message, I don’t have any guesses there. Maybe because I’m in that group & am trying not to blow a bubble big enough to burst. But also maybe because the ACTC involves a PEOPLE factor…as in you’re claiming other short humans on your return. Which may involve more caution or research for the IRS.
For those with offsets (again, not including those with ACTC), I can see them getting closer to their predicted DDD, with maybe a couple of days (to a week’s) delay. That right there is straight up optimism, though. No basis of fact for that one, folks.
That’s just my personal rundown and assessment I’ve put together by reading every tax refund webpage and forum I can get my grubby fingers onto. If optimism won’t hurt you financially, I say be hopeful.
Now…back to avoiding the internet. My green-eyed internal monster is starting to notice those January DDDs…
WMR will only reflect the amount from your returns. It cannot take offsets into account.
@T Somewhere there (if you click on the Tax topic link, I think)you should find a number you can call to get more info on the reason & amount of the offset. It’s an automated system, so you should be able to call today.
@Mark – I think you have your answer! If you’re following the IGMR Facebook page, you can see a screen shot of the first 2nd bar on WMR. A few lucky users got their DDD, and it’s reported as 1/29!
These are folks who don’t have EIC or ACTC, to be clear. But still! That’s much earlier movement than past years!!
I mail-ordered mine for the first time today too, @Debbie T.
I am actually going to ride your coattails a bit & ask if anyone has seen any evidence that ordering transcripts causes more delays or scrutiny…?
So, my partner has student loans (for 2 years of college only) that are always offset. We had 3 years worth of refunds – each close to a thousand dollars – that were corrected just last year, and the federal education department claimed all of them, of course. I am just curious as to how I would ascertain his total balance due, if anyone has experience with that topic…?
Wow! Only 7 years, @SugaPie? Were you on a payment plan throughout that time as well, or was it just offsets to your refunds that paid it off?
@Hally Thank you for the advice, but I really am happy with things as they are. To each their own.
I don’t know about other folks, but I genuinely look forward to that lump-sum return each year. In real time, money tends to burn a hole in my pocket & fall right through. 😁
Looking back at 2016, I filed early, and was CREDITED A DEPOSIT on February 9th. The next year, PATH delays took hold, and I was credited on 2/22. With that delay, don’t count on early money (expect the least). With no delays, cross all your digits, and hope the Almighty Tax Gods shine their favor on you.
Best of luck!!!
Would someone mind guiding me a bit? I have gathered that the end of “your number” helps identify you as daily or weekly, but where do you find your number? Do you have to have a copy of transcripts to find it?
They voted to reopen until February 8th! We have a temporary reprieve!
There will be a vote to end the shutdown at noon EST today. Fingers crossed!!
@Marie: There is a bit of a question mark about refunds being issued, but the general consensus is that the automated processing of returns will continue, but the issuing of refunds will not happen during the shutdown.
I also gather that delayed refunds will largely depend on how soon the shutdown ends relative to January 29th (official open date for returns).
To answer Sierra and MrsStingel2016:
The IRS will not officially open for returns until January 29th, but some e-Filed returns are accepted early as part of a test batch. This gives the automated submission system a chance to be tested and work out any “bugs” before the official opening date.
If you’ve been accepted already, it will most likely not mean your refund will arrive sooner, mainly because of the EIC/ACTC holds. If you haven’t been accepted yet, NO STRESS, you will most likely see movement on the 29th when things are more official. (Or you may still be accepted early.) This processing phase is automated, so it shouldn’t be impacted by the shutdown.
Filed already, both EIC & ACTC for me. On the same timeline as last year, with the added variable of the shutdown. Last year, got credited by DD on Feb. 22nd after being accepted on Jan. 18th. (Same number of kids, and roughly the same Gross Income.)
To those who asked, the Test Batch group are just e-filed returns that are classified as “Accepted” prior to the official IRS Return opening date (this year, it’s January 29th). So, if you’re accepted, you’re probably in the HUB Testing program. (It’s a way for the IRS to test the software in the electronic submission process, and resolve any bugs.)
For those with EIC (Earned Income Credit) or ACTC (Additional Child Tax Credits), the refunds themselves are held, due a law that went into effect last year. This year, they have estimated that EIC and ACTC filers will first start to see statuses change on Where’s My Refund around February 18th. Refunds may start to roll out around February 27th (although a few of us got them days earlier last year).
