The situation I am about to explain happened to me last year as well. I was unaware of the Identity Theft Pin.
            Filed/accepted late Jan.
Waited the 21 days with “processing” status on WMR the whole time.
Called IRS, was told that someone else had filed with my SSN and was rejected and that they VOIDed my efile as a precaution.
I was then told that I needed to mail paper copies in and that it would be 6 weeks after they Receive my paper copy before I would receive my refund.
Followed up by calling the IRS 9 days later to verify they had received the paper copies. They told me they had not. They also said that it didn’t mean it wasn’t there, but they just had not gotten to it yet.
This year: I haven’t followed up since. I am just trying to be patient.
Last year: Obsessed for weeks, drove myself crazy, and didn’t receive it until late April.

I had recieved a letter (4883C) on 3/11 long after my return was accepted 2/14 and I tried using the hotline given to me….it doesnt work, i wait over an hour then the line dies and i am hung up on, why cant our IRS handle a simple hotline, why cant there be easier ways of getting in touch with the IRS. Honesly all this hastle isnt worth the money I’d be getting anyway, our country cant seem to do anything right now-a-days…

Nothing on my end either. Filed the second, accepted the second. I have been told it was accepted on the 31st of January (rolls eyes) and the fifth. I was able to order both return and account transcripts and know it is in the IS department. First year it took 8 weeks (paper return). Second year efiled and that was only six weeks. Still in processing and have called once a week for the past 3 weeks.

On another note – I did file an amended return which included a Injured spouse form. The IS department received it on the 14th of February. On Monday I received a letter stating they increased the refund amount and I should get it within 2-3 weeks. I did call on this one to find out if that included the IS returns date. Was told it was set to be release on March 27 by 1 rep but it said it was in open control which implied IS still had its hands on it. So she sent me to IS department who said he only tells you if you qualify and it will take 11 weeks from the date on the letter. Called back the next day and to try and get a valid answer. The rep i could barely understand and was impatient and did not look anything up. Just said I would get it within 10 business days of the letter date. So I called again and the third rep was a little helpful but still no valid answers as to the actually date on that one.

If I hear anything on either I will make sure to post. Some hope is better than no hope and I do keep hoping I will see more getting their returns filed.

I filed my taxes through H&R Block on 1/21/13, I was accepted 1/30/13. I checked for updates through the month of February on WMR. After several weeks with no update I contacted HR block reps – 3 who told me refund was processing fine, there were no errors and to expect my refund on 2/21 which never happened. I reached out to the IRS who informed me that I was in error resolution and to wait on a letter. I received the letter 3/4 and was informed that lines 25 & 26 on my form 8863 was not populated. I checked back on the HR block at my PDF which shows that it was filled out. I find out later by speaking to another IRS rep that this is a huge issue this year w/ HR block they did not populate the No answer for 25 &26 which caused an error and the delays. It is going to take 6-8 weeks from the point they receive my corrected form 8863 to receive my refund. I have since spoken to 3 HR block representatives in their escalation center who still will not address or acknowledge that this is an HR block error and refuse to accept responsibility even though this is now in the major news. H&R block is negligent for not responding to their clients earlier on to let them know that they could be affected by these delays , they did not make an action to correct these issues until after 2/22 which was after the IRS started processing the form 8863 on 2/14. H&R blocks software error has affected so many people from receiving their hard earned money AND it is causing delays for applying for 2013 FAFSA. This is not right and HR block should be held responsible. Innocent people are being affected due to their misguidance and negligence. Pleas sign this petition if you agree!

Spoke with tx advocate yesterday. She told me that all adjustments were made and the codes were put in to release my refund. She Said I should have a Ddd in one to two weeks. I really hope so but will not get my hopes up.

Accepted 1/31, received 4883C letter on 2/20. Called and spoke with IRS agent on 2/25. Was told to check WMR in 2 weeks. Nothing has changed, still says being processed. God only knows…

I just waited on hold for an hour today and was told “no update, it takes 11 weeks.” My return was accepted on 1/27, so I’ll let you know if I get it before mid April.

Got my 4883c letter today a month & a day after e-filing. Tried calling the 800 number on the form 5 (FIVE) times during normal business hours and each time got a recorded message: “due to high call volumes we are unable to take your call at this time.”. Contacted taxpayer advocate & all of my elected representatives requesting assistance. Requring performance of an impossible task for return of ones property is the same as taking property without due compensation (constitutional rights violation).

Well IM not sure if I was one of those that was mentioned in this article http://www.accountingtoday.com/news/No-More-Holds-on-EITC-Returns-Says-IRS-65830-1.html?taxpro but I do know IM finally seeing something besides still processing here is my journey :
                                      Filed and accepted 2/1
Processing W 1 orange bar till 2/18 when it changed to still processing I called and was told I was being reviewed n would recurve a letter…waited and waited received letter 2/28 saying cp05 and wait n do nothing…
2/21 I hired a tax advocate ( which was a complete waste of time she had the wrong area code for my number and tried to call me and I obviously missed the call and then had to wait for her to send a letter out and wait 2 weeks before I have a contact date which would have been tomorrow but I checked WMR today and HAVE A DD OF 3/14

                                        Filed and Accepted 2.16.13

                                        Called that number ext 123
IRS Lady asked me a bunch of questions, filing status refund amount, employer, Bank Used last year
AGI from 2011 Wages from 2011
She asked for my number in case they have further questions said everything is fine now and I should receive
my refund 4 to 6 weeks from 2/18/13. Not sure of the significance of the 2/18/13 date maybe when it was originally pulled for identity review. She said there was nothing else wrong with the return it had just been randomly selected.
I also asked will I still receive DD or paper check – she said whichever method I requested on my return.

Will post and update when I have it!!

This is our 3rd year filing IS. I e-filed it with our federal return through Turbo Tax myself. I filed & it was accepted on Feb 7th 2013…I am still getting the ‘your return is being processed’ message on the WMR site. Anyone else file around Feb 7th & receive their refund yet?

I was told I had error code 285. That is has something to do with EIC but since they haven’t mailed my letter yet the IRS guy couldn’t tell me exactly what it was. Tried looking it up but when I found it in the IRS form it said reserved next to the code number. Does anyone have any idea what this code it?

The IRS guy did tell me he thinks it was an EIc calculation error. So pretty much turbo tax calculated my EIC wrong.

I forgot to add that if you call, the IRS rep won’t know from their main screen if you are receiving a letter. Since I filed a 8863 form, I asked if they could see if the form was submitted correctly. It was only when they went into that screen that they saw that a letter had been generated. My 21 days aren’t up yet so they should be able to tell me more information on friday.

                                                      Jamie

I am a fellow 4464c. It has nothing to do with the education credit. People with the bad education 8863 filings are receiving cp 05. The 4464c is generated by the IRS verification and integrity operations office, IVO for short. It used to be called Amtap (shortened name). It is a system that they’ve set up to detect fraudulent returns. More than likely, they will be calling our employers to confirm the numbers that we are claiming. if the employer doesn’t reply, or doesn’t want to tell them over the phone, then they’ll have to wait until they receive our w2 information, which will happen in the summer. There is something in our returns that flagged our return. For some people, they may increase the amount of the withholding in order to receive a higher refund. It could be your education credit and they will be calling your school to confirm. Maybe you claimed medical expenses, charity, etc and the numbers are a little too high for someone with your income. It could be something as simple as claiming an older child who you haven’t claimed for.

In my situation, I made a lot of money as an independent contractor, as well as worked and went to school. My 1099 amount almost tripled, so they may be looking into the deductions I made as far as car, phone, etc.

Don’t meant to scare you, but I found a man on facebook who received the letter feb 8th and received another letter yesterday claiming that upon further review of his return, they looked at the past 4 years as well and say that he owes $6,700. I also found people on facebook from last year who received them during the tax season and were still waiting for their refund in the summer. I will keep you guys updated as I hear more. I have not received the letter but I was told that it was sent out on Monday. I believe the bath of general IRS letters go out once a week.

I will keep updating this page as I find information because it is extremely hard to find information on the 4464c letter online. The IRS doesn’t even list it on their website.

Ya know.. the IRS is realllly beginning to piss me off. Here’s my story:

I filed my taxes on 2/1, got acceptance on the 16th, and patiently waited until the 8th, when I should have received my refund at the latest (based on their 21 day standard). I was checking the WMR site on a daily basis, and not seeing much change. Today, irritated, I decided to check on H&R block’s website to see if there was anything new there. It turns out my NEW acceptance date was 2/25… WTF? This is absolute bullshit! The IRS can throw us in federal prison for not paying our taxes, garnish our wages, and throw levies on our homes, but we can’t even rely on them to get us our money back in a timely manner. I need my money, my car died, and my son was due to be born YESTERDAY…. hey IRS PISS OFF!

I was put under “extended review”. I contacted the IRS and was told that I was under review. I was informed that I should expect a letter that would detail what is needed and the exact reason for the review.
I received a letter 3 days later stating I was under review and that they needed nothing from me.
I contacted the tax advocate line and explained my situation. She stated that I would be contacted in three days.
Four days later (6 if you included the weekend), I received a call from a tax advocate.
She stated I needed to provide proof of my employment with my claimed 6 employers. The Lady then told me to obtain 6 letters on company letterhead from each of the employers. When asked why the W2s were not sufficient she said they can be faked. I was also told that employers were given longer to file the w2 and that is why a lot of us are under review. Over the course of trying to obtain these letters (2 of which I was able to obtain) I found out from her that only 2 letters were actually needed. Unfortunately they were not the ones obtained.
I am trying to keep this short but yet detailed. I am still battling

Filed 1/30 through Taxact, Accepted 1/31
Had 1 bar for 2 weeks then went to the received date will be given when available.
Called IRS on 2/21 and found out I was mailed a 4483c
Received it 2/23 and called to verify everything on 2/25 and was told 4-6 weeks
Today I checked WMR and have a deposit date of 3/13.

Keep faith and hope you all get it soon.

                                                                Update:
I filed 2/14 through TT with 8863, EIC, HOH, self-employment the works lol

Since then I have been processing- 1 orange bar. I have called every 2-3 days since 2/21 to find out what is going on because most of the people I see/hear/talk to have received some type of error or letter. Every time I called I was in “normal” processing- ho holds/no errors.

Yesterday was day 21 for me so I called and they told me my return was re-sequenced and my 21 days now starts on 3/4. I was told the 2/14-3/3 do not count because the IRS didn’t actually start entering my return until 3/4 and that’s what they mean when they say 21 days (yes I know a bunch of lies). I called this morning (day 22) and finally got somewhere.

Honestly the IRS guy sounded just as frustrated as I did. He was actually ranting to himself. I didn’t have to say anything lol He kept saying “This is so stupid” or “This is so frustrating, Why don’t they just put it on my screen” etc. He spent over 45 mins digging into my account trying to figure out why there was no information on my return. He finally hit the jackpot on some random screen (I could hear him clicking and mumbling) He found a single error code for EIC. Funny thing is I am not listed as ever being in the error department. They found some type of calculation problem (so pretty much he thinks turbo tax calculated my EIC wrong) and took away over $1500 of my return. They have yet send me a letter so he is not sure exactly what went wrong. My return is still listed a processing normally.
Hopefully I will have a ddd next week with the reduced amount. Then I have to figure out what happen and fix it. All I can say is keep calling you will eventually get someone who does care and will take the time to help. We need a forum to say thank you to the IRS agents that actually help (I know there are only a few lol) At least I have some idea of what is going on now.

After faxing all my info and waiting the prescribed 2 weeks from the date the advocate sent it to irs review department, I got a phone call this morning saying that they approved my refund, that the info I sent was sufficient (33 pages). Now they have to input it back into the computer system and let it process, wait 21 days, which I think is BS because I have my return transcript with the full credit on it. I know that my refund has been processed and is awaiting them to release it, which I hope takes less than a week. TAS is a load of crap, I sent in a three day notice with my info and it has been 3 weeks already, the review department took the entire two weeks that they had to approve and now I am just waiting again. Seems to me they could have just looked at the info and released the refund by now. Guess I should consider myself blessed that I do not have to wait 45 or 60 days like some people are. it is hard though to consider oneself blessed when facing eviction. Next year I will definitely not plan on using my refund for essentials, then I will not have this problem.

I KNOW, the return one is the one that matters but curiosity struck and cannot take this out of my head. The transcript is pretty much blank, says a couple of zero’s here and there. (I ordered this return on 21st of Feb) Anyways, In the first section it says the zero’s thing and right next to it is says “AS OF: March 11, 2013″. First question is what is that all about? My second question is, I was supposedly accepted on 2/14. (I filed 8863) but towards the bottom of the account transcript it says “Code explanation of transaction”and under it, says No tax return filed. Why would it say that? <– that was my second question. Any ways, i only ordered this transcript once but came to my house 4 times in total. lol 2 of them on Friday and 2 more on Saturday. (WEIRD) Please help.

-A friend of mine told me her mother received her acct transcripts and said some other date on there. it was blank also and also had the no return filed message under and the "AS OF" date she got was the date her money was pending in her account. I would appreciate anyone's help that has knowledge of this situation. Thank you.

Filed on the 15th using education credit,. still pending. spoke to the IRS and like most of you I was told everything looked okay and to wait until the 21 days. So, I do NOT think it is a HRB issue but an IRS delay they are not telling us about………..

We filed in late January and are supposed to get the money on Wednesday. We e-filed, both return and 8379 together, direct deposit. Did the same method last year, had our return in 3 1/2 weeks. The previous year, e-filed the return, MAILED in the 8379…and got the money in 10 1/2 weeks. So it’s with what works for you personally, I guess. Congrats on getting a deposit date!

Some taxpayers are receiving letters from the IRS informing them their returns are now under further review. Some of these letters are related to Form 8863 (Education Credits).

Rest assured your return has been prepared accurately and your estimated 21-day refund cycle has not changed.

                                                                                                      Here’s what has happened:
This year the IRS changed the way it processes and accepts answers to some ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ questions on Form 8863 as transmitted by H&R Block. Once we learned of this IRS change, we worked to comply with the new IRS process.

We do apologize for the inconvenience to our clients. The IRS has reassured H&R Block and our impacted clients these additional reviews will NOT impact estimated refund dates.

Please note: Others who have filed Form 8863 have also received letters from the IRS asking for additional information. Clients must provide these details to the IRS in order for their return to be processed. If your return was prepared in an H&R Block retail office, please contact your tax pro to help you.

Just wanted to give some encouraging news to those who filed an 8379. This morning, after “only” 37 days since filing (early), the WMR tool updated from “Still processing” to a deposit date of Wednesday. This notes the first time in years of filing that the WMR tool has EVER actually reverted back to a deposit date after denoting the offset/processing, although last year we received our refund back after only 3 1/2 weeks after filing the 8379 (WMR never reverted back to a DDD or anything). This year will have been roughly 2 weeks longer, but we definitely aren’t complaining!

…so there’s hope for you yet, they ARE slowly but surely working the 8379’s. Good luck to you all, thought that you could use some good news! =)

I waited one week and personally mailed in my Injured spouse form. I waited two more weeks, called to verify that they recieved it. They had. And they said they already put in for a release of our money that was sent off to XXX. They said five days later that they will be releasing the money on March 11 2013 or before. So this year I’ve only waited six weeks total by mailing in my Injured spouse form. It always and I stress ALAWAYS took the 11 weeks if I electronically filed it with my tax return. Try it out, see for yourself. I am doing it this way from now on!

I continued calling my advocate to get answers and was finally told that once they get the info to the review team they have until the end of business on the 10th business day to complete the review and make a determination. Which would be the 6th but because they have until the end of their business day which is 5pm and the advocate works only until 2pm I should expect to hear from her on the 8th if the review team uses all of their time. hoping for something sooner but definitely expecting nothing to happen until the last minute.

Someone posted that info on the main discussion thread of this site. She said she got that info from a friend who works at HRB. that would explain why TT folks have their refunds and we don’t. I wish HRB would come out and say that if its true.

I too have the one bar on WMR with no change. No info since has been given. I haven’t called anyone. It does seem strange that TT filets got their refunds with form 8863 and we didn’t. Notice the ones of us who did file later when the forms were actually ready got their DDD. I read somewhere that the additional delay was caused by programming problems so maybe HRB didn’t get it right on their end. Whatever the reason, I will never use HRB again. This has been the worst tax season ever. The lack of communication by both HRB and IRS is disturbing.

Since then have got the run around. Spoke with many reps the first two weeks that said i was processing and to just wait the 21 days. Finally weeks later i recieved a letter which was dated 2/1 stating i was under review. This was fustrating to me since not one rep informed me of this letter being sent. The letter states my return is being reviewed and to wait 60 days. WMR still says processing wait 21 days. About 2 weeks ago, I started working with a Tax Advocate that had me send in my w-2s and last three pay stubs for each w2. She stated once she submitted documents to IRS the next day that they would have three weeks to make any corrections needed and release hold. Two weeks has passed now and nothing has changed. It is very aggrivating to not know if next week which is the third week will even be the time they release this review. Anyone else working with an advocate and whats happened thus far? anyone know of anyone under review that has recieved a deposit date.

Still in processing! I know people that filed after me with the education credit and they got their refund last week.

I spoke with someone at the IRS yesterday and she looked my account up and said that I did get accepted on 2/15 due to my education credit and that my 21 day waiting period starts then, even though I filed on the 8th. I told her that I really needed my return transcript for school and she said that it would only become available once my refund was finished processing. She said that I SHOULD get a DDD within a week :/

So, apparently the rumor is true that once you are able to order your return transcript through the IRS site or mobile app, then your return is done processing and you’ll get a DDD within a day or two (only if it was processed and found no errors).

I’m trying to be patient but it’s really irritating to see all the people with edu credits file after me and get accepted.

That it could take 6-8 wks from feb 11th to get my refund. I filed on Jan 31st and was accepted feb 1st. I am an id theft victim of 2010 so I do have to file ip pin every yr with my return.

WMR stuck on one bar with the one liner. Haven’t called the IRS because it seems it doesn’t help. I’ve never waited this long for a refund before. I think the IRS owes everyone an apology. The least they could do is release some info we could actually use so that we dont have to speculate.
