This is my 2nd year filing. Last year, I didn’t know that my return would be taken, so I sent the form after the offset happened. This year I want to file the same time. Can anyone direct me the best way to file? Should I file my taxes electronically and send in the form by mail at the same time? If I want to file electronically with the…[Read more]

So does sending in injured spouse separate make it faster or am I better off just doing it like I did last year and hope it’s faster

    • Generally, if you file Form 8379 with a joint return on paper, the time needed to
process it is about 14 weeks (11 weeks if
filed electronically). If you file Form 8379
by itself after a joint return has been
processed, the time needed is about 8
      weeks

Here we go again! Fingers crossed that this year is faster than the last. No government shut down to use as an excuse.

Don’t forget to mail your Injured Spouse form as certified if you want faster service.

    • Two forms are sent on the same day. One as certified. The other standard delivery. The one that is sent standard will take weeks for the IRS to claim they’ve received it. But the one sent certified is acknowledged immediately upon receipt.

Hi, where or how do you usually file your taxes? We have been filing with my dads accountant but that is not an option anymore. We are thinking about filing with H&R block. But we are not sure how it works, and how it would work with the injured spouse form. Anyone know of any free or low cost places to file?

    • I use TurboTax to submit online. Then mail in the Injured Spouse form separately.

    • I forgot to mention I used H&R Block for 11 consecutive years until I realized I could perform the same tax service for myself for free by using TurboTax. This is my third consecutive year using them. So far, so good. I haven’t paid for any of their services but also haven’t had a reason to contact them.

    • Is there any benefit to mailing the form separately? I normally file it electronically with the form through Turbotax. I have to pay for the deluxe service in order to claim the dependent care credit. It’s $30 right now. I file state through my state’s website for free.

This is our first time filing IS (for last year) and I received a letter today that they sent my state refund to CS for my husband’s debt. I’m new to the entire process. Isn’t the point of filing IS so they can’t touch my portion?

Hi I’m new to this group and I wanted to now is there another number to call besides 800-829-1040 to talk to someone as it is now almost September and we still haven’t received our refund check and it was submitted back in like March? Any help would be appreciated.

Look up your local tax advocate for your state. You can find the number on the IRS website. They will be able to help you an answer your questions. Let them know youre experiencing a financial hardship it will get your case looked and and closed faster. We called on 8/5 and they had it closed by 8/6 when our advocate called us on 8/8 to let us…[Read more]

We still havent recieved ours or any word on whats going on. The advocate didnt call us back till her scheduled date and if she had bothered to listen to the messages we left her she would have known our case needed to be flagged again because ours didnt process correctly and kept getting kicked out of the system. So when she called on 8/26 she…[Read more]
