Looking at my tax transcripts from a couple years and I see that on 2017 it shows code 898 for my (student loan) debts. 2020 does not show any thing related to my debts.
When I call the offset number it still says that I have 1 debt that MAY be offset.
I don’t want ot file IS if I don’t need to but afraid to not and then have to go back and redo it and wait even longer.

I filed IS this year just in case but I think that is what is delaying my taxes 😔

We did not file IS last year (student loan debt) and received the full refund promptly with no issues. I’d expect the same to be true this year, since student loan protections were extended until May.

I’m wondering this as well. Do I need to file IS this year?

According to what was passed at beginning of pandemic. You won’t have to worry about offset for students loans until next year. But call a local tax preparer and find out for sure.
