You may have a bank that won’t show a deposit until on or after the actual DDD. I hope you get yours soon.
@MONI & @JR, broke down and called again today (3rd time). Was told that the new processing time was due to identity theft & all that good stuff and to expect a 2 month wait for E-filed returns from now on and to be happy and excited for anything sooner (he literally said that).
He also said that I have 1 more dependent than normal (I have 4) and that might have required a manual review. He did say that they can’t let the feds have all the fun (my paraphrasing there) and they want people to know they are taking identity theft and other fraud seriously.
He said to expect the 2 month wait to be the new norm for CA and to call back on the 3/26 if I have not received my refund and only at that point can a rep manually process my refund. He also said my return was last handled on 2/12 and hinted at the fact that I may possibly expect something next week, but definitely not to count on it. Overall, he was a nice guy with a lot of helpful info, all things considered.

I’m still on the 3 months message. Finally got approved for fed today (PATH Act) and have a weird feeling I may get approved for CA refund on 2/21 — the first business day after my fed approval date. Hoping so, anyway.
I’ll give it till 2/22, to allow for some extra processing time. If I don’t see an update by then, I’ll be calling the FTB again on Wednesday morning. Will update then.
@Renita Hinson, YAY! I am so happy for you! That’s awesome! Thanks for sharing! :)
Forgot to add my details, I am just so excited, LOL.
Filed 1/26 with TA
Accepted 1/26
Paid fees up front
ACTC
1 bar through 2/10, Tax Code 152
Could order only account transcript on 2/3
Could order both account and return transcripts on 2/10
Changed to PATH ACt message 2/11
Got my 2 bars & DDD of 2/23 today (2/18)
Oh wow, I’m sorry Gennefur. That sucks. I hope it is resolved ASAP and that you will ultimately get your whole refund.
February 18, 2017 at 3:48 pm in reply to: How long till you recieved ca refund after authorized #4178618Usually 7-10 days from approval, although I know that has played out a bit differently for some this year.
As for me, I am still stuck on the 3 month message for my CA refund. I’m glad you got an approval. It gives me hope! :)
Gosh, if my state came in right now, I’d be happy.
I’ve been doing some praying here. Refund is not even that big this year. Could really use it, though.
February 18, 2017 at 12:51 am in reply to: Is there supposed to be a "big update" saturday or not? #4177433I’m voting on a big update on Saturday, 2/18, with a big DD in the middle of next week. JMO, FWIW. Also voting for between 3:30 and 6:00 am ET.
@D, I am not saying I don’t believe that a PATH Acter got their DD today. However, I would find it easier to believe if there were, perhaps, a group of people, including some of those I have seen posting here over the past few weeks, saying that they got theirs. ;)
Yeah, it’s been a long wait. This has been quite a roller coaster ride for us all…and like the Twisted Colossus, it’s still going, LOL. It just hasn’t been quite as fun as Twisted Colossus, but a lot of nice people here have made the time more enjoyable, kind of like the silly people in line while you wait to go on the Twisted Colossus.
Okay, I am done with my roller coaster analogy. LMAO. It’s off to work I go, to pay more taxes so the IRS can give me some new thrills next year. :D
@D, while no one knows for sure, I am in agreement with what you have heard. I think if you got the PATH Act message followed by the new message, you are progressing through the system and will hopefully see a better update and a DD soonish. Just my opinion, for what it’s worth.
My account never shows pending deposits. They always go straight through. Nothing so far. Hoping for some positive updates but not really expecting anything at the moment.
Same here, only I am kind of excited to see it, LOL at least it is progress right?p
@sarah, I also agree with you that cycle codes do not apply to refunds for those affected by PATH Act this year. That has already been proven. However, I do think the IRS is stating that cycle codes are a myth in order to stave off a slew of transcript requests and phone calls asking them to interpret cycle codes, etc.. I think we mostly agree on these issues, it’s just there is a clash of information out there and nerves are running high right now. I am definitely not here to debate or appear argumentative. Just wanted to clarify, for what it’s worth.
Sorry I am on my phone and cannot edit. Just to clarify, I am saying that the daily / weekly situation applied to when your transcript updated.
*your
@Renae, for what it is worth, I am in total agreement with your post. Especially the fact that I do not think the weekly/ daily situation will apply to the release date of refunds this year for those with path act. I feel that they will be releasing funds in back-to-back batches regardless of when you’re transcripts updated. I believe that the weekly / daily the situation only applied to the transcripts this year not the refunds that were affected by the path act.
@DANIELLE, the main glitch I have seen for early filers and those who file on opening date are being resequenced multiple times, resulting in long delays. Oftentimes you will see people who don’t file till about a week after opening day and they usually are processed much more quickly than those who are stuck in the flood gates at the very beginning. It’s definitely something to keep in mind for the future.
A for those who filed 1/23, unfortunately that was opening day and the IRS is notorious for having delays with those who file on opening day. For future reference, next year you might want to wait a few days after opening day to file. Of course those of us who filed on 1/26 have our own problems, as we all are aware, LOL try not to file on a Thursday or Friday because that could put you on a weekly status. I’m just saying. The wait is almost over! Hang in there guys!
@Carrie, just wondering how many times you checked the offset line? I know with the IRS they get kind of fussy if people check more than three times within twenty-four hours, which can trigger that message online. I am thinking that might be the case for you right now, even though you are receiving this message over the phone. If you can wait 24 hours to check I would do so. However if you think there’s a chance that you do have an offset you might want to call and try to get through to a human to give you some answers. I’m sorry you’re going through this. I hope it’s nothing serious.
@Carrie, it should go straight to your account if you did not have fees taken out of your refund.
I should add that many of those of us who ordered account transcripts last week that were blank have since been able to order return transcripts which generally indicates that you are done processing, barring any unusual circumstances.
February 13, 2017 at 11:29 pm in reply to: Path act and 21days on the 15th help me please 😑😑😑 #4169470@Mzbeautyqueen, I hear you. All we can do is hope for the best and support and encourage each other through this tedious process. Please keep us posted and you can be sure that everybody will post like gangbusters when the DDs start rolling in..
February 13, 2017 at 9:55 pm in reply to: Path act and 21days on the 15th help me please 😑😑😑 #4169409that is definitely The $64,000 Question around here, lol. Unfortunately, none of us really know the answer to that question. This is new to everyone. If it helps I am in the same exact boat as you, filed 1/26, etc., etc. Personally, I am expecting it to take longer then I had hoped. I suggest bracing yourself for the worst case scenario, just in case. hopefully we will be delighted to receive it sooner than that. :-)
It appears to be a somewhat common problem with the new order online system. They have really tightened up security and will tend to issue that message if any little thing is off or if you have tried to enter your information too many times.
Even when I was entering the correct information I was still getting the message that my information did not match etcetera. Had to go through the transcript by mail system, which sucks but I guess if it prevents fraud, we should just be overjoyed. Eyeroll. LOL
I’m sorry, those are not very friendly codes. Here’s a link but it’s probably not going to help any more than what you already know. I have not seen a whole lot of people with your codes, for what it’s worth.
https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-utl/transaction_codes_pocket_guide.pdf
Nobody really knows for sure but this seems to be pretty common. A lot of us were able to order account transcript that showed up blank because we were not done processing yet. Hopefully you will be in on one of the first disbursements rather than a later one. The 2/13 date may indicate that.
@Amra, oh wow. That’s terrible. I hope you can recover those funds and that you get your return filed & accepted ASAP with a nice, fast turn-around time on your refund. Good luck and keep us posted! :)
Called the CA FTB again today. Spoke with a very friendly representative, Sean (#1039), and was told that there has been a lot of confusion about the wording on the message people are receiving on the website after they file. He said that those higher up in administration are looking into possibly changing this wording. Apparently they have been inundated with calls, more so than usual.
However, for now, the “3 month” message just means that if they happen to find something noteworthy in your return that requires extra processing time, then it could take up to the full 3 months to resolve it. He did say that receiving this message does not necessarily mean that they did find something wrong with your return. Apparently, this is where the confusion lies.
It is a generic message but most people do not have a reason for further review that would require the extra processing time. He did say that if all is well with the return, a refund is generally issued within “2 -3 weeks”. He also literally stated that they would rather issue the latest possible date to receive a refund, rather than issue an earlier date that might be delayed, only to cause further concern and confusion.
He also stated that if a person did have some issue that required further review of their return, they definitely would be receiving a letter in the mail. As for me, he stated that he did not see any notices being sent out and that all appeared to be fine with my situation. I am hoping to see my refund within the next week or so, or at least an estimated date. For what it’s worth, I filed and was accepted 1/26. I’ve been seeing the “3 month” message ever since.
One more issue I asked about was if it would have made any difference if I had filed on the CA FTB website versus using my tax prep service to send it along with me federal. He assured me that the info received would be the same either way, in the same time-frame. The only difference is that the CA FTB is free to file. It’s simply a matter of convenience of not having to enter the info twice.
I feel a lot better, even though this is the longest wait I have ever had for an E-filed CA state refund. I normally have my state refund light years before my federal.
Just wanted to share this information, for what it’s worth.
@Jerseygirl02, I agree. I think it is like a lot of people have said; the IRS will give people a “worst case scenario” date, just to avoid a barrage of angry phone calls if the refund doesn’t go through earlier. It seems most people tend to get their refunds well before the estimated date provided by the IRS. Of course, we have no clue how that will play out this year. We are mighty close to finding out though. Let’s hope for the best and brace ourselves for the worst. :)
Sorry for the double post.
@digg9779, interestingly enough, I also filed 1/26. By the way, I see some others who can view transcripts online that are seeing the processing date change randomly. When it comes to the IRS, you learn something new every year (or even every minute, LOL).
@Amra, you’re welcome. I’m sorry you are dealing with this. Since you are sure your return is 100% accurate, I am even more certain it is the tax service, as your friend also stated. I hope you didn’t pay a fee. If so, it should be refunded. I have never had a problem with Tax Act’s online service, for what it’s worth. You might give them a try.
PS: be sure everything is 100% correct with the new submission. One little number off can cause a rejection.
@Amra, it means your tax prep service screwed up, regardless of the song and dance they are giving you. My advice is to file with another service. If the original return somehow goes through after your new one is accepted, the original one will be rejected. You might want to call the IRS to confirm this info. Good luck!
@WillBeas, I don’t see why either, but apparently they decided they are not going to update any wmr info with DDDs for path ACT people until after the 15th. It’s on wmr and it was part of the main path act message, unfortunately.
For those who just filed recently, it appears you will have to wait to get the return transcript. At that point you are most likely done processing. This probably means you will be in on the 3rd disbursement. Nobody really knows when to expect the funds at this point. All we do know is it will not happen until after the 15th. Updates may occur as late as next Friday for transcripts and Saturday for the path act message. This is true especially if you are a weekly updater, which a lot of those with path act seem to be.
@Renae, thank you. I was just checking to see about a theory that is going around about refund amounts disappearing/reappearing on WMR for those with PATH Act.
Please excuse my grammatical errors and typos. My phone is dumb, lol.
@just by the way so happy you’ve got approved last night!
Well, I guess it was technically this morning that it updated.
@Just I filed 126 and finally got the path act message last night. My refund amount disappeared like everyone else but I was just checking to see if I could make my refund amount show up.
@jaysia it’s hard to say for sure, but there is a chance it will not take that long. I hope you get it sooner then you expect. Good luck!
LMAO, locked out haha!
LOL I just logged in to WMR 5 times in two minutes just to check this theory and I can’t even get locked out if I try. I’ve gotten locked up plenty of times before. It appears that I, too, need a new hobby. LOL
Bill has it right. Sometimes you get the 971 and the 570 together if you’ve been resequenced for some reason. That is just one reason to receive these codes. I will post a link below to a tax code booklet, if anyone wants to check it out.

February 11, 2017 at 5:21 pm in reply to: Q For Those Who Have PATH Act and Can View Transcripts #4167715@Renita Hinson, well, let us know what they say. Hopefully you just got resequenced is all.
@Ten1seven, you’re welcome. Hang in there and keep us posted.
I will post a link below the was written by a Turbo Tax agent. It is very informative, however the Turbo Tax information only applies if you are TurboTax customer.
https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/3132146-what-does-code-1541-mean
@Ten1seven, that totally sucks. It usually takes about a week to get put back into the cycle for them to issue you a paper check with the next batch, which could take another week or so beyond that. Hopefully it won’t be too long of a wait. I’m sorry this is happening to you.
@Suellen, first of all you would need your account transcript not the return transcript. The processing code and date should be in the section right near where it says the acceptance date which should be April 15th 2017. It’s generally about one-third of the way down the page from the beginning of the transcript. Below that it might show some other codes. If your return is not affected by the path act, you should see an 846 code next to a negative number which is your return amount if your return has been processed and your refund is on its way. If you’re return is affected by path act, you will generally just see the processing code and date near the top followed by some other codes that do not include the 846. Nobody will see in 846 until after February 15th if they are affected by the path act. Hope that helps! Sorry about any grammar errors I am on my phone and my phone is dumb, lol!
LOL, make that misinformation. My phone is dumb, haha!
@Zachary, thank you for understanding. It’s not my intention to post Miss information. While I definitely do not know everything I do try to stick to the facts. Like you said, everyone makes mistakes. :-)
@Zachary Crank, guilty as charged. I’m sorry. I made the mistake of reposting outdated info this morning. Not enough coffee. Will always fact check from now on. My bad. :::pleads forgiveness to the masses::: (not being sarcastic, either)
You’re welcome, @Fe. Hang in there! I’ll keep an eye out for your post.
February 11, 2017 at 2:56 pm in reply to: Q For Those Who Have PATH Act and Can View Transcripts #4167641Thanks, @Bini3. As a matter of fact, I had a 971 as a part of my code mess last year (and a 570). I was a resequenced early filer. I did end up with my entire refund — but it was later than I had expected. Hopefully, @Renita Hinson will be in the same boat. Renita; I would still say to give them a call ASAP to get this cleared up.
Yeah, @Fe, you got some stuff going on. Do not delay in calling the IRS as soon as possible. Please keep us posted and good luck.
@Fe, oh yeah, those are some nasty little codes. You need to call the IRS first thing Monday morning, if at all possible. I hope you get this cleared up as soon as possible. It is possible this can be resolved without too much delay, depending on your particular situation. Try not to stress. Sorry this is happening to you.
Sorry @Kiki, I see you are looking at the return transcript. You need the account transcript to see your codes and processing date or DDD, whichever applies to your situation.
If you are not affected by PATH Act, and your return is processed and your refund has been issued, you will see an 846 code next to your refund amount and the refund amount will appear as a negative number, e.g., -$1250, etc..
If you are affected by PATH Act, and all is well with your return, you may see a processing code and date near the accepted date. The processing code may say something like 20170505 or 20170403. The processing date may be 2/13/17, 2/20/17, or 2/27/17. This date will generally appear near the acceptance date of April 15, 2017, or something to that effect.
Hope this helps a bit!
@schmidtkids, yeah, they decided you owe some money for some stuff. :/ Not pleasant. Please call the IRS on Monday. I’m sorry. :(
@Fe, it means you have not paid into something. Can you post your codes, please?
@Crystal, you’re welcome. I completely understand your level of frustration. I’m right there with you and we are not alone. Good thing we can lean on each other. Hang in there and let’s hope our DD’s show up sooner than later. :)
@Ellie now I am not trying to be argumentative with @WillBeas but I do know a very nice lady who went to bat for a huge group of us resequenced early filers last year. She made a large number of, shall we say, inquisitive phone calls on behalf of numerous members of that group, day in and day out. Oh boy, did they have that woman flagged! Her refund was held up for months, with no rhyme or reason, other than the fact that she was a major pain in the IRS’s, um, rear end.
In general, a few phone calls to get a straight answer shouldn’t flag you. But you might want to think twice about getting all ape**** crazy and calling them 20 times a day, whether it’s for a good reason or not. I’m just sayin’. ;)
@Thomas Tafel, that sounds very frustrating. I think you might want to call on behalf of your clients. Hopefully you will receive some viable information to stave off the village with their pitchforks and flaming torches. ::smiles and elbows your ribs::: Ya gotta laugh sometimes.
Here is a link that may be helpful (albeit from 2015):
http://www.theincometaxschool.com/blog/dealing-with-the-irs/
While the first part of the article does not apply to you, there is some useful info in here that may help, especially the sections entitled “Don’t count on talking to a person” and “Use the Practitioner Hotline”.
Please keep me posted. I’m thinking good thoughts for you and your clients.
@RG Nope. I haven’t seen anyone else say so, either. The IRS made is very clear that no one affected by PATH Act will see a DDD on WMR before 2/15.
@Lena, you got that right! I made the mistake of reposting that info before double checking it. Lesson learned!
If anyone wants up to date info, here is a link just posted by the IRS about tax deductions on 2/10/17:
@WillBeas Thanks, Will. I appreciate your kind response. I try to never post misinformation.
@WillBeas Yeah, I just caught that. Should have double checked before I reposted. Sorry about that.
However, the IRS has made it clear, they are really giving those with deductions the once over. On the IRS website, there is an article dated 2/10/17 about falsely padded deductions.
That doesn’t mean everyone with deductions is padding them, but it does mean they are definitely scrutinizing those returns.
