The IRS today alerted taxpayers and the tax community it is experiencing high traffic on Where’s My Refund as more tax returns come in. The heavy volume of refund inquiries means that the IRS anticipates both “Where’s My Refund?” on IRS.gov and the refund feature on the IRS2go phone app will have limited availability during busier periods.
Due to the large number of inquiries and to avoid service disruptions, the IRS strongly urges taxpayers to only check on their refunds once a day. IRS systems are only updated once a day, usually overnight, and the same information is available whether on the internet, IRS2go smartphone app or on IRS toll-free lines. While “Where’s My Refund” is updated nightly, your account will not change that frequently.
The IRS is seeing a good start to the filing season, and tax refunds are being issued timely. Nine out of 10 taxpayers typically receive refunds in less than 21 days when they use e-file with direct deposit.
The IRS expects to see the number of tax returns — and related refund inquiries –steadily increase around the President’s Day holiday week.
Here are some tips to help taxpayers with their refund questions:
∙ Have the right tax information ready before using any of the IRS refund tools. This includes Social Security number, filing status and refund amount.
∙ You don’t need to check Where’s My Refund more than once a day as your information will not change.
∙ To avoid system delays, the best time to check on refunds is evening and weekends.
∙ There is no need to call the IRS about your refund; the telephone service has the same information that is available on Where’s My Refund.@MrsTiff:….my wife just ordered our Return Transcript 2Day…so im hoping for a good sign

Although I know several of us never had a bar to start with so it’s no help LOL
I wonder if there is anyone that filed before that got theirs and have a date in that box. We could probably call and ask what it means.

Accepted the 30th, 15th day and waiting. Still processing. By the time I get this refund I may be on the street. Every bill I owe is do. 5 months of unemployment without income will do that to a person. The IRS is skeevy as usual this year, even more so.
I find it interesting that there aren’t any “reviews” when the money is taken from my paycheck every two weeks, but suddenly a “review” is must to return it.

Accepted 31st, nothing yet. Talked to a person in the holds dept on Tuesday and was told it is processed but is not updated in all their systems yet. He couldn’t give me a date but said it should only be a few days, should be by the end of the week. I sure hope he is right, we need this money so bad. We have bills to pay and need diapers and clothes for my kids :(

Absolutely no information available on hotline or WMR :(I don’t have an Offset….however if you do they take that out of your taxes.
Still the same 21 day message! Still no transcripts. Day 15 & counting :/
I am in the same hold myself….file with TT on 2/7 and was told i was not accepted until 2/9 even though TT sent me and email stating I was within hours…..Call IRS today verified my offset information to them and the lady put it in my files telling me I will receive a letter. The joke of the day is when she ask me how was I planning on paying them….I told her when she pays me first you can ask that question again
no change for me today… still receiving the direct deposit date will be given when available and no bars which happened on Monday morning. Just processing… I talked to someone again at the Boston office of Examinations and she said she could not find anything in the examinations department at least on the screens she reviewed. Just have to continue to wait.. 21 days will be up on the 18th/19th. Hope to have a better update by then.

2/8 or 2/9 got the topic 152 messageI have been processing ever since without any further change.
I cant order either transcript as of about 5 minutes ago…not sure what to think, I have heard that the fact you cant order either transcript is actually a good thing because it in fact means you are still processing and not under review, etc. I am starting to lose my cool, calm collected self :)I just want to wake up on of these morning with a DDD, I even had a dream about my direct deposit date the other night – which is just so very wrong LOL!
I now despise the word PROCESSING!!!!
I still can’t order a return transcript, and wmr still says I’m processing. I have not gotten a letter yet, and all the irs told me last week was that I’m under review, but only for 7 more days. Today would be the last day. I have tried to call this week, and was given the “no one can see your return until 21 days have passed” crap. IRS to go used to say they had received my return, but now it says my refund is being processed. Anyone care to shed some light on that?
@2013taxpayer. I’ve heard thats good news if the status bar dissappears. God only knows at this point but hopefully you’ll have your $$ soon!
Yep same here as aimjay….took 2 days to actually start processing. So Im looking for an update by the weekend or Monday!!
hey aimjay Thats exactly what I was told today…that even though I was accepted on the 5th I was however not began to process till the 7th. So there must be some truth to this….I was also told to look over the weekend or by Monday for an update. I would say you and I are getting exactly the same message….that isnt a bad thing at least!
Been lurking here for a while but haven’t posted yet. Just thought I’d let you guys know that I just got accepted and I am an 8863’er. I filed on January 29th but haven’t been accepted until now. About the date that we all thought.

I filed in jan. got accepted on the 30 went under review on the 2nd and said to take action and a letter would be on the way asking for more info.I’ve been calling the irs and everybody tells me something different but the same thing LOL we don’t know wait for the letter some say the letter is asking for something but they don’t know what and others say the letter is just telling me I went under review and they might need more info so I checked wheres my refund and it changed to under review again but it says nothing about a letter and says for more info call 1800-829-0582 and give them the ref.#1242 so I call and they tell me the same thing I was told on the 2nd.Wait for a letter that may or may not ask for something.smh
@MrsTiff…I filed and was accepted the 31st. The IRS rep I talked to said I started processing on the 1st.

I am so sorry you are having to deal with this like the rest of us. No one deserves to lose their home. I know, I’ve been there and now my family and I are having to live with my mom after losing our home. As far as the tax advocate goes, the people I have talked to that haven gotten help from them have just explained that not having the refund is causing great financial hardship. Maybe if you said that and left out the part about your house, they might be more willing to help you. Crazy that they want proof from the people who need it most but a fair share of folks are just calling and straight out lying or exaggerating way beyond whats real.
I really hope you get the answers you need, and soon. The IRS is just playing games this year and none of it makes any kind of sense. For what its worth, I don’t think you are *really* in review. From what I have read here and on other boards, everything is just all screwed up. It doesn’t make any kind of sense that ALL these people are in review. We can’t all look like liars and theives. My heart goes out to you and please update us if you hear anything.
Just to let you know…I filed 2/5 and was according to them I thought I was accepted 2/5 a few hours later…WWWEEELLLLLL I called today and was told still processing and that I was really accepted 2/7….You may have not been accepted on 2/7 ….. Bunch of Bull
Ive been reading the forums the past few days and decided to post. I filed on the 31st and had the orange bars for a few days, then the 21 day message up until two days ago when i was finally able to order my return transcripts. Then it switched to the dd date will be given when available message. This morning i checked my acconut and my refund is sitting there with a dd date of 2-19. Just for the heck of it i went back to check WMR and its showing the bars and a dd date of 2-19 even though its alreafy been sent.
Good luck everyone!No update here either. Filed and accepted 1/30. Ordered transcrips a week ago. No offests. Jut want to know what the hell is going on!

Same thing, I filed 1/24th, accepted on 1/27th. To make a long story short. The first IRS rep told me nothing was wrong. WMR and IRS2Go both said processing with no code. Never got a letter. The holds department told me everything was fine, the examination department told me they saw it was under review but there was nothing indicating why it was under review nor nothing indicating it would come to that department. She said it was more than likely my depedent. She said they could ask for more information or they could just notice that I have filed the same way for six years and release it from review.
@styxparadise That would explain why I cant find anything on it either. Once again the IRS should have better planned this before this huge mess up. Now they should just release all these holds since its more of faulty program than actual fraud.

dd of 2/14 (given to me on sunday feb 10th, was able to order return and account transcripts)Got federal and state this am, it probably would of been in there last night but I was too nervous to even checked. Hr and block rocked it.
Can someone tell me why yesterday I had a DDD of 2/15 and now on wmr it says the generic received your tax info, we will provide you with a DDD when available or whatever
i too am a master googler…nothing on this because its NEW…noone haS really gone through this…there isno way its a review because this would be unprofessional….

Suppose tO get my refund tomorrow. Wmr took orange bar away and says we received your refund blah blah…does that mean it was deposited to my bank acct?

Woke up this morning to STILL NO UPDATE, still can’t order account OR return transcript. UGHHHHH…I’m ready to pull my hair out while screaming to the top of my lungs!

Woke up to a ddd today!!!!! yay 2/19 I feel so much better now.
Filed 2/7 and accepted 2/7. No 8863, EIC. Still in processing with the 21 day message and 152 topic. Also still in processing with NC state refund. Really irritated. I cant order transcripts. When does wmr update, is it over night or actually throughout the day as well? I would at least like a date….

Hey Everyone no DD yet and no money in my account yet but I was just finally able to order return transcript, Whoo HOO! SO happy to see something change.
I have been sitting on that message for over a week now. Still no dd date on wmr but I was just able to finally order return transcript so they have processed my return. So glad to see some movement finally

Thanks! GA just accepted our return Tuesday. I just checked on the GA WMR site and it says ‘we’ve received your return and please allow us 6-8 weeks to process’ WTF??? I’m not sure if that’s a generic message they give everyone or if we will get reviewed as well. I wouldn’t be surprised since we did owe them and they put a lien against us in years past.
I KNOW they owe us money from last year. I’ve done the figuring and we owed them $368 out of the $1068 we put in. Well, they kept the difference AND they took the money from our federal return. I plan on having them show US how the kept this money AFTER we get our $819 they owe us this year. I don’t want to cause them any reason to hold the funds this year. We need every little penny we can get our family needs to get into a new place ASAP. We did not get as much federal back as we were thinking we’d get. We had a new baby in 2012 giving us 3 children. Family members who have 3 kids get back 9K and more each year, so I thought we would. NOPE… 5485.00. Our income did increase this year from last year, so it reduced our EIC a good bit. I know its better to make more income we were just kind of depending on that 9k…lol
I Received that same message @ 1230am on the 12th…this is the second day of me sitting on it…so I hope a get sum good news soon
Ok boyfriend got DD today of the federal he overpaid. Still waiting on letter to resolve EIC refund issue which is $7k.
Just received my DD on my prepaid card at 11:08 pm CST.
Filed witih turbo tax.
I used free file so no fees.
I had my funds sent to my school financial aid prepaid card.

Received my funds 2/13 @ 11:08pm CST.Also I used hr block.
I filed 1/30 accepted 1/31 filed hoh one dependent and eic. I also had an offset from money I owed the irs from two years ago. My refund was dd today 1/13,as scheduled.

Called IRS three times was told everything look fine just still processing /:
Knew something was wronge seeing as how my brother I law filed last week and received his today!!!
Called and spoke with a very nice lady. She told me my refund had been aproved but had a he on it. So she transferred me to the holds department and from their I was told they didn’t see anything! Was transferred back to customer service and hung up on. Called back this time straight to the holds department.. The lady I spoke with was really short with me. She stated my refund amount and that it had a hold she wouldn’t tell me why just that I should be receiving a 4464c letter then hung up on me! So I called the tax advocate line and I’m not afraid to say why! ( 4 months behind on mortgage )
Was told unless we recieve a letter saying our home will be foreclosed on they can’t help:’(
She did tell me that my 4464c letter hasn’t been sent out yet (they send them out in batches)
After doing some research I do believe our refund is being held be quad of the amount +9k the largest it’s ever been because my husbands work was slow this year. Which is the reason we are behind on our house but also the reason for the larger refund (different tax bracket)
I guess all I can do is just wait and see what’s going to happen! BUT Where’s My Refund (WMR) is still showing processing with 21 day message! It has never changed to under review take action or anything! It’s just strange..so what could happen I paid taxes from the balance? great nervous more, he said shldnt have a delay

Can’t order transcriptsThat’s tough, for sure. I hope all the people in real need get their funds quickly. No need to add further stress. I don’t know what it is though… I was reading on the main feed earlier that half the 30th/31st filers got sent to a backed up queu and are taking about a week longer to process. You never know how accurate that information is over the internet… but I’d like to think that we’re quickly approaching our ddd update since about half of us last week got their DDD’s. Now it’s our turn.

Hey again ladies. Sounds like a smart idea after all u went through Amanda. Fortunately, I am not in need of the money eihter. I’m a mother and housewife, my husband does well and we are big savers. Tax refund time is our “mad money” We are responsible all yr so we put a chunk into savings and treat ourselves with some of it.
But I have also become super ocd about tracking too. ha ha. It’s so frustrating!
I read on here about one person whose electric was going to get cut off cuz they were counting on the refund. bless her heart. I haven’t had that kind of worry since college, thank goodness.

@ANAHBryan29… I’ve seen a lot of people say that they change to that status a few days before getting a DDD. Others have been stuck on that for over a week though. Let’s hope for the best and say it’s a good thing. :)

Hi ladies! MrsTiff… I am not getting a large refund this year. After it taking nearly 7 months to get my refund last year I changed my deductions so I would get less taken out of my check and a smaller refund to anticipate. I had ID theft last year though so that was the hold up. My tax advocate last year told me that filing with an identity protection pin this year shouldn’t slow things for me and the few times I’ve called the hotline so far this year has said the same… only one person told me to add about a week to my processing time if at all. I file with only 1 dependent. It still sucks though :/ I am trying to start my own photography business and every little bit would help at this point. A part of me is feeling fortunate that I am not hurting for my refund like some others are. However, I still just want to know what’s going on and why it’s not processing at the speed it should.

filed 2-4 accepted 2-5 then today i call and she tells me accepted 2-6, i asked if there were problems with my return, she says no, everything has been verified im in payment venue whatever that means, im still on processing never got a ddd
I filed and was accepted on 1/31. Married/Joint return, 2 dependents, EIC. Fairly simple return. Until yesterday morning WMR was showing the orange bar and saying processing. Yesterday morning the bar disappeared and a message stating it was still processing and a refund date would be provided when available. Is this a good sign? I tried the whole ordering transcripts thing and as of a couple of hours ago, I cant. Anyone have any insight?
