key tax return and refund dates
When can you file your taxes?
You can submit your tax return before the IRS begins processing as early as the first week of the year with many tax preparation providers. You don’t need to wait until the IRS begins accepting tax returns but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January. Tax returns filed before the IRS officially opens sit in a āqueueā and are held until the IRS officially begins accepting tax returns.
Your tax return may be selected in a test batch. If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early. This can result in early direct deposits depending on the payment provider you select. Our cycle chart will update with key dates including test batch dates.
When does the IRS accept tax returns?
The IRS usually opens around the third week of January each year. They announce the opening date early in January.
The IRS will begin accepting tax returns in 2025 on January 27th.
When is the IRS test batch?
If you file your tax return early, it may be sent to the IRS in a test batch before the IRS has officially opened for the year. It is usually a week before the date the IRS begins accepting tax returns. This has resulted in refunds in the past that can be posted by direct deposit as early as the day after tax season opens.
When will I get my tax refund?
Early filers whose returns are accepted in a test batch can anticipate a tax refund as early as the day after the IRS opens the January filing season if your return was in the test batch. The day that the IRS deposits refunds varies for regular returns but we notice trends based on the method you chose to file and select to direct deposit. You can use our tax refund calendar or refund cycle chart to help find out when you will get your tax refund.
Where is the IRS refund cycle chart?
The official tax refund cycle chart published by the IRS has been eliminated and replaced with IRS FAQ. Refund cycle charts are now published by independent websites and vary slightly.
A good reference to use is the When To Expect My Refund cycle chart that is published early each year by the College Investor.

This has been the fastest tax season for me. Filed 2/13 and just checked WMR and have a DDD 2-23-22. Transcripts also updated.
@@lovinglife2526: my fiancĆ© filed for the kids in 2020 so I didnāt get any of those payments if itās the one Iām
Thinking of and I remember we didnāt even get the full payments it was missing one of the kids or something. Thatās the one that paid out monthly checks rights ! If so good to know it had nothing to do with me haha ā¦. Super curious what my review is about tho with the tax topic 151. I know I owe money still but most of it got taken last year they forgot this part wish they were open tommorow maybe Iām hoping itās something I can clear up over the phone and not wait on an letter even tho my wmr says specifically donāt call until
You receive the letter as we wonāt be able to do anything lol
@Ondeerun: No your not.. question is why did we get that message? usually they leave a notice on our IRS account but nothing is there at all on mine.
Am I alone receiving message we are sorry your refund is delayed
@Allisxn: No, it is not generic but quite a few people have also gotten it in the last day or so.
Hi, I received a letter from the irs to verify my tax return, but the problem is I haven’t filed one yet. I went on the irs verification site and it had a option of fraud to cancel the return and refund. Should I just mail a paper return now?
@NY-Khidd: I agree. I will never pay with refund again.
@Santa: oh thank you! He’s been in so long I’ve lost caught lol. And he’s definitely blessed us. He’s been deployed 8 times and he’s come home each time. We tried for 7 years to have a child and when we gave up, here she came lol. God bless you, too!
@Me: I’m not sure. But I did see from this page, so!some said the 0.00 will change.
Should of paid fees up front like last year would of had my deposit this past Friday but waiting til this week whenever SBTPG updates smh ddd 2/23/23
@Quana: you dont pay it back you just dont get back whatever they have already given you so what you do get back is the remainder.. i dont see how people get so confused by this. Although i do believe the advanced payment has opened up some messy situations for many people..
@Me: I claimed my own children and got a 570 as well.. i noticed that on my 1040s for the last 2 years that the x next to my second childs ssn in the EIC section was not marked in the box so i guess that would explain why i only got an advanced EIC check for 1 child ( i canceled them as soon as this happened ) but my question is why is that x missing in that box and i know that i have still been getting the EIC for my second child on my actual tax returns.. i honestly think there may be an issue within turbo tax software or the IRS software because it definitely isn’t an error on my part because i have entered everything correctly each year.. i guess im gonna have to use an actual tax agent next year.. Did you figure out anything btw?
@@lovinglife2526: why would we have to pay back the child tax credit when it was basically and advance on our taxes.. we got it over 6 mnths and they took that from our taxes in 2022
@Ank: I checked and you are correct thanks for help
@basketcasemomma
Can you plz tell me why I have all good codes except 570 with 0.00 and 971 with 0.00 do you think it will fix itself I only had 1 w2 no 1099 nothing at all just claimed my grandchildren this year
I just checked WMR. (I usually donāt) but is that offset message just a generic message? Thereās nothing about an offset listed on our transcripts
@Thequeenofbee: they are not making people pay back the stimulus money. But if you received extra of the monthly child tax payments you will have to pay that back.
@Steve: Iām hoping so that the funds will show Tuesday morning. I called republic bank and they said that they are not processing any payments until Tuesday.
Hello,
Does anyone knows if TrustMark bank will deposit on my DDD which is the 22nd? First time using my bank instead of my serve card
@basketcasemomma: I thank him for his service God bless
@Santa: We are actually taking our 10 year to the beach! :) It’ll be the first family trip we’ve taken. My husband is usually deployed or in training around this time, so we’ve never gotten to go. But this year, here we come!!! :)
@basketcasemomma: I’m glad your getting your refund but you a good dinner
We need to make the IRS give us all a Disney world trip for all the hell we went through to get our taxes
@Santa: Thankyou! :) It’s probably looking like the 23rd and not the 22nd LOL. I didnt realize thursday is the 23rd. Holidays screw my mind up.
@basketcasemomma: I wish you the best of luck
@Mildred: SBTPG
@basketcasemomma: ok hopefully
Iāve been trying all day calling 800 304 3107 figuring the option to here an offset that was paid . Everyone tell me option 2 not one for offset snd and i dont get that option. Anyone can tell me how
@NotLoggedIn1: Holidays always mess me up when it comes to the days of the week LOL.
@NotLoggedIn1: OH NO lol. I didnt even realize that! Well, crud lol
@Steve: I think so. That’s what I have seen from people commenting on here.
@Ank: I have all good codes but 570 with 0.00 and 971 0.00 my funds are still correct amount. I tried to screen shot my transcript so u could see but idk how lol. I had only 1 w2 and claimed my grandchildren whom lived with me this year. Do u think the system will update it’s self this week I’m a weekly since the codes have 0.00
Will republic show funds received on Tuesday?
@basketcasemomma: the 23rd is Thursday
Anyone know about this topic 203 and if it has anything to do with state? I havenāt had much movement on my state (NY) & it is much greater than the amount I received last year. Iām just praying they didnāt touch that too š I often hear federal and state have nothing to do with one another but when it comes to ācollectionsā, idk⦠SOS lol. sending positive vibes to all āØš¤
@Mildred: I think, (now- this is from what I have gathered with others on here with the advance) that you should still get yours either Tuesday or Weds. SBTPG should update Tuesday, I think.
@Santa: I saw you from earlier this week commenting. :) I am glad to see yours is on the way. I bank with chime, but have fees to be taken out, so I hope to get mine tuesday or weds. WMR says 2/23 Weds.
@Scallywags: mine updated to that “We apologize, but your return processing has been delayed beyond the normal timeframe……” message on friday with my as of date changing from 2/20 to 3/6 and then today if changed to “we are still processing your return….” as of date stayed at 3/6. my amount hasn’t changed but my tax topic is gone, so who knows. May be yours will do the same, and i just hope this means they had to take a quick glance and and it will process out this week (fingers crossed).
@basketcasemomma: Megan did you check your card
