When can you file your taxes?
You can submit your tax return before the IRS begins processing as early as the first week of the year with many tax preparation providers. You don’t need to wait until the IRS begins accepting tax returns but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January. Tax returns filed before the IRS officially opens sit in a “queue” and are held until the IRS officially begins accepting tax returns.
Your tax return may be selected in a test batch. If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early. This can result in early direct deposits depending on the payment provider you select. Our cycle chart will update with key dates including test batch dates.
When does the IRS accept tax returns?
The IRS usually opens around the third week of January each year. They announce the opening date early in January.
The IRS will begin accepting tax returns on January 26, 2026.
When is the IRS test batch?
If you file your tax return early, it may be sent to the IRS in a test batch before the IRS has officially opened for the year. It is usually a week before the date the IRS begins accepting tax returns. This has resulted in refunds in the past that can be posted by direct deposit as early as the day after tax season opens.
When will I get my tax refund?
Early filers whose returns are accepted in a test batch can anticipate a tax refund as early as the day after the IRS opens the January filing season if your return was in the test batch. The day that the IRS deposits refunds varies for regular returns but we notice trends based on the method you chose to file and select to direct deposit. Im not checking anything anymore! Im gonna take TT, SPTPG and CK for what they showed me the last 2 years I’ve used them. Won’t get funded nor will I receive my DD until 2/25. It’s stressful hoping and wishing for any earlier.

@WASTATE24: I’m honestly not certain. This is my first year using CK but in past years I have had fees taken from refund and always received deposit well before DDD. Let’s see what happens.

@Sheila_33: just giving my update. Nothing changed over night. Still have 570 and all transcripts from 2019 forward all still have the changed as of date 3/9/26

@Still waiting infairburnga: You will need to call and ask for a new letter. But, they may just go ahead and do the id verify over the phone.

Hello how can I verify online when checking. My transcripts it’s saying i need to verify my identity but it’s asking a control number but I never got a latter
QUESTION: I received my 846 code today and it shows that I should get it on 9 March. When do you think I’ll actually get it it’s direct deposit.
@Chelle90: I have CK but paid my fees upfront and no advance. Last year got it in the evening same day as 846 But mine should be coming straight from IRS
My so NOT awesome tax year so far. Filed/accepted 2/6. After 1 week Wmr stated changed from 21 days to process to 3 weeks to process no topics. IRS account only showing wage and income transcript for 2025. All other transcripts don’t even have 2025 as an option. Week 2. Wmr changed to still processing no topics. Still only have wage and income transcripts and all other still does not have 2025 option so no codes. No notices showing being issued. I’m not on Path. So frustrating.
@Benita: No I did not call them. I was playing around on my phone, and I received a text from Navy Fed CU informing me that my funds had been deposited in my account.

Last year I got my deposit before SBTPG even updated to funded, so it’s coming guys.

@Jennyb: on the phone with Sbtg now they have had my refund since the 19th and saying that they won’t release it until the 24 and it may take 1-2 days before it gets credited to my bank account
@509state: Did you get snow lasnight or just me. LOL. Couldn’t snow for Christmas, nope has to wait until I take the summer car out of storage.
@Jennyb: it doesn’t go through sbgt if you paid up front with no advance?
@NYnic: the 3/9 date on your transcript is not a DDD; it’s the date that you should receive your refund by. If you don’t receive it by that date then the IRS can look into it after that date. It has nothing to do with the actual date you will receive your refund on.

@WASTATE24: I have it like that but every time I go through SBTPG they always hold it until the DDD I’ve never gotten it the same day. I’m seeing half saying they got it the same day and half saying that they got out the day of the DDD so I’m just waiting and their website still says un funded

Has anyone with a DDD of 2/23 get their deposits yet? I bank with PNC so not sure when they process if I’ll get early or not considering I paid fees up front.

filed 1/20 on turbo tax I’m on PATH I have chime I finally received my 846-code last night hoping for a deposit today I live in the pacific northwest Washington state last year I received it at 10:38am last year so hopefully today I receive it
833 588 0232 direct line to credit karma. Since they wanna play and hold our money hostage let’s call them til they drop our funds. I’m pissed seeing literally every other bank drop funds and we selected the 4 days early? I understand we had to wait for path but damn. I’ve had the 846 for days and still nothing. Anyone else with credit karma?

My transcript still shows a DDD of 3/9 but today WMR updated to a DDD of 2/24. This is a first for me where those dates don’t match. I just wanted to share in case others start seeing that too. Good luck everyone!

@Alliecatt: Well, if thats what they’re looking at, it should resolve pretty quick if the amounts are correct since they reconcile those amounts internally.
@FLTeacher: Did you call the Sbtpg phone number and they had the funds ? I called lastnight and they have received my refund, it was my amount minutes the fees. It said the timing depends on my bank. The website does say unfunded. Do you think I’ll receive it sometime today ?
