Where’s My Refund?

Where’s My Refund?

When does IRS accept tax returns in 2020?

IRS e-file Open Date is January 27, 2020.

This is the date the IRS will begin accepting tax returns.  You can submit now and they will sit in queue until 1/27.

When Can You File Taxes in 2020?

Most tax preparers will allow you to enter and submit your tax return beginning the first week of January 2020.  You don’t need to wait for the IRS to start accepting tax returns to start, but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January and some even later.  When you submit your return before the IRS begins processing, it will sit in a “queue” and be held until the date that the IRS will officially accept tax returns.  If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early in a test batch. This has resulted in early direct deposits in the past, but also major glitches because they are tests after all.

Where is the IRS Refund Cycle Chart?

2020 Refund Cycle Chart

The most recent tax refund cycle charts have already been published. The official IRS tax refund cycle chart has been eliminated and replaced with an IRS Information Guidelines for the Tax Preparation Community publication and the IRS says the best way to check the status of your refund is using the Where’s My Refund tool. However, various websites with refund calendars for the 2020 tax season (2019 tax year) have been updated with 2020 direct deposit and check mailing dates.

When to Expect My Refund?

IRS Refund Schedule Charts typically show that early filers whose returns are accepted before the end of January can anticipate a tax refund direct deposit as early as the first week of February.  The day that IRS deposits refunds varies but we notice trends that help you determine the time and days WMR updates and when your tax return is processed.

The refund calendar by the College Investor is a good reference which has been updated for 2020 here:  When To Expect My Tax Refund.

@Fingerscrossed: many have applied from first week of January and many go on the test batch, it can be good and it can be flagged. You don’t have to wait until January 27th to file. However if you fall under the path, you will have to wait until February 15th or after to be process

@Mbry0625: It popped up two days after the first acceptance, I even had one, but after the first cycle day, a lot of them dropped off, which made me think it was a glitch. On a few, it stayed and turned out to be a verification issue, if I’m remembering right.

@Mbry0625: Last year the first two days of batch testing of the first round was busy, kind of slowed down the third day. I also noticed a bunch of those 9001 codes showed up too, that I had forgotten about.

@Che’: I believe as soon as your accepted within 24 hrs of that they will put advance on the card. You can use card info online. The rest of refund will go on that card when it’s deposited

@LaiJae20: we’re you told this? It would make sense why maybe a lot of people are being denied.

    @Che’: I got that last year. As soon as I finished putting in my info it asked me if I wanted it I said yes. They sent me an email immediately with card info and u got a card in the mail in a few days. Balance of refund went on that card first big drop on path refunds whatever day that was there are pros and cons, but it is instantly you get to use the card. I was on Amazon within 5 min that’s all I use refund for anyway, shopping. Good luck!!;

FYI: if your preparer is using refundgo as their bank, do not apply for a refund if your W2 is not posted (meaning with your pay stub). That bank will deny you a refund advance if your company’s W2 isn’t already posted.

@MSRazorbackPhD: 5 kids, without a fridge, equals hysteria, lol. Thankfully, the January sales are going on so I got a nice one, but the timing was less to be desired.
