Where’s My Refund?

Where’s My Refund?

When does IRS accept tax returns in 2020?

IRS e-file Open Date is January 27, 2020.

This is the date the IRS will begin accepting tax returns.  You can submit now and they will sit in queue until 1/27.

When Can You File Taxes in 2020?

Most tax preparers will allow you to enter and submit your tax return beginning the first week of January 2020.  You don’t need to wait for the IRS to start accepting tax returns to start, but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January and some even later.  When you submit your return before the IRS begins processing, it will sit in a “queue” and be held until the date that the IRS will officially accept tax returns.  If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early in a test batch. This has resulted in early direct deposits in the past, but also major glitches because they are tests after all.

Where is the IRS Refund Cycle Chart?

2020 Refund Cycle Chart

The most recent tax refund cycle charts have already been published. The official IRS tax refund cycle chart has been eliminated and replaced with an IRS Information Guidelines for the Tax Preparation Community publication and the IRS says the best way to check the status of your refund is using the Where’s My Refund tool. However, various websites with refund calendars for the 2020 tax season (2019 tax year) have been updated with 2020 direct deposit and check mailing dates.

When to Expect My Refund?

IRS Refund Schedule Charts typically show that early filers whose returns are accepted before the end of January can anticipate a tax refund direct deposit as early as the first week of February.  The day that IRS deposits refunds varies but we notice trends that help you determine the time and days WMR updates and when your tax return is processed.

The refund calendar by the College Investor is a good reference which has been updated for 2020 here:  When To Expect My Tax Refund.

@Mbry0625: In a press release, the company said the service will enable U.S. citizens who file their tax returns through Credit Karma Tax to get a $500 to $1,000 advance on their tax refund with no fees or interest. The clients can get access to the funds as quickly as 24 hours after the IRS accepts the tax return.

@Sharon O: Figures could be different. I learned that the hard way two years ago. IRS held me up for 12 dollar difference. I had to wait until end of April to get my refund.

@Sheila_33: not online yet :( I don’t want to pay the big guys to do it. My car insurance company charged me like 3 months at once this month and I wasn’t behind (just made a payment on 12/24) but told me they couldn’t refund that. That was almost 900 dollars so i am trying to offset that. It was already a little tight because of xmas and we’re going to Disney this weekend. I just don’t want to be so tight so i wanted the advance.

@NY2020tax: My option is where it notifies me that the return will be submitted when the Irs starts accepting returns. If that’s not an option for you, then I definitely would just wait and amend, otherwise there could be a problem with more than one return submitted.

Good morning tax family, I see no one has been accepted other than that 1 person. Hopefully test batch acceptances start this week, with no issues!.

@Pmedina: yes, they send all info in an email, you can start shopping online now. You will get a debit card in a few days in the mail. Set up a pin#, max 500 withdrawal per day after your refund hits it, and it charges you for every atm even on the ones that are usually free

@kyhmm72: same situation here, I am claiming her, she just turned 18, lives at home, and I pay the bills!! But, she will get a refund too, I simply check the box on hers that says someone else can claim. I will get a faster refund, but it will be smaller

@Mbry0625: Can you dispute the charge with your bank once it posts to your balance. I would definitely! Good luck!

@MSRazorbackPhD: Well i don’t know if you caught wind of what i said about them taking my fees without me even filing. 80 dollars. I haven’t even filed yet. Called to get a refund they wouldn’t refund me anything but 30. They charged me for MAX and i didn’t even select it. It was supposed to only be 30 through a discount with my bank to file deluxe.

I learned from previous tears to pay fees out of my pocket. Here’s to getting my refund 2 hours earlier!!

@Pmedina: I read that TT had to issue refunds last year. Had something to do with extra fees!

@BBkansas24: I may have your question confused, but IF you owe, even with a payment plan, AND you file….whatever is owed will be deducted from your tax balance. It doesn’t matter to them about payments…they will zero the balance.
