key tax return and refund dates
When can you file your taxes?
You can submit your tax return before the IRS begins processing as early as the first week of the year with many tax preparation providers. You don’t need to wait until the IRS begins accepting tax returns but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January. Tax returns filed before the IRS officially opens sit in a “queue” and are held until the IRS officially begins accepting tax returns.
Your tax return may be selected in a test batch. If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early. This can result in early direct deposits depending on the payment provider you select. Our cycle chart will update with key dates including test batch dates.
When does the IRS accept tax returns?
The IRS usually opens around the third week of January each year. They announce the opening date early in January.
The IRS will begin accepting tax returns in 2025 on January 27th.
When is the IRS test batch?
If you file your tax return early, it may be sent to the IRS in a test batch before the IRS has officially opened for the year. It is usually a week before the date the IRS begins accepting tax returns. This has resulted in refunds in the past that can be posted by direct deposit as early as the day after tax season opens.
When will I get my tax refund?
Early filers whose returns are accepted in a test batch can anticipate a tax refund as early as the day after the IRS opens the January filing season if your return was in the test batch. The day that the IRS deposits refunds varies for regular returns but we notice trends based on the method you chose to file and select to direct deposit. You can use our tax refund calendar or refund cycle chart to help find out when you will get your tax refund.
Where is the IRS refund cycle chart?
The official tax refund cycle chart published by the IRS has been eliminated and replaced with IRS FAQ. Refund cycle charts are now published by independent websites and vary slightly.
A good reference to use is the When To Expect My Refund cycle chart that is published early each year by the College Investor.

@Ree: thank you
How long is it taking for federal returns now a days, i am still waiting.
If I didn’t send the information needed and my refund freeze clears on its own does that mean I’m getting my refund? My as of is still may 12th and my refund freeze been gone about 2 weeks already
@DariausKirk: yes
I had a refund freeze and asked me to send in information on something but the refund freeze came off without me doing anything? Is that a good thing?
Anyone get update today?
Does anyone know if the 810 being removed and no other issue/error codes, plus the as of date shifted backward to an earlier date, means their processing the refund release now? If so, how long does it usually take?
@Blindian.goddess: jalmost everyone get it after they verify but it’s nothing to worry about if your info and wages are all correct
Hi everyone. What does the 570 code mean? No movement for me, filed 3/5 accepted same day. ID verified 4/1
@Sharon O..: they just told me wait the 9 weeks but I’m a weekly and that’ll be wed
@Ree: Exact same details. I called yesterday and the again said they see no problems. Hopefully soon
I finally got my refund after 570 dated 2/24 & 971 dated 3/03 . this has been a long time coming I am so happy man GOD knew I needed it right now . my tax preparer was off $300 and that was the hold up my wages Im just thankful it’s finally over ❗️❤️ & I will say I did an amendment as well which they received on 3/24 so don’t lose hope cause I think they resolved my wages on there own which took time

@QUEENZ Still processing
LINK MING Its still processing
@JDENNIS662 You should have already received it by now usually takes only a couple of days to receive it. You need to call the IRS
Did the 810 turn into an internal code instead of one that goes on transcripts? The transcripts are very different now and the 810 has disappeared.
Has anyone received a paper check this year how long did it take? Did it show in informed delivery? Mine was sent out 4/18 but still nothing in mail. Thanks
After amending my 2023 returns it updated with a 290 and 0$ does this mean it’s finished?
So mine says additional tax assessed with a 0$ and 20251705…help anyone? And a may 12 date
@Madinjay: yes 5/1 so we will see
@Icudancing: did it give you a date? If so war should update tomorrow
Finally transcripts have filled out but wmr is still on first bar.
My as of is still sitting at March 10 with no other changes.
@Keanu: I’ve had a 570 with $0 since February 6. And no 846 :(
@Lei: well that’s progress! At least you found out what the hold up was! Hopefully it will update next week. Only thing that updated for me was my as of date pushed from 5/5 to 5/12. Had my appointment with SSA to remove those fraudulent wages off my record and I have an appointment with local IRS office next week. I am hoping they can do something at my visit. Fingers crossed that we will get ours by the end of the month!
Anyone know how long it takes to receive a refund by check?
@Nat Bat: They finally told me that the state did not notify them of the unemployment I received last year. So my return looked like I was claiming more income and more federal withholding than they had reported. I sent in the 1099G on Tuesday. Just checked my transcripts and the only thing that changed was the as of date was pushed to May 12th. I am not sure why they did not tell me that in March and early April when I called. Wish I knew how long it will take now that they have that. Any luck for you today?
Well my as if date is now May 12 smh this ish is rediculus!
@gk: same for me so far, but filed with TurboTax.
@gk: mine is the the same
I keep seeing everyone talk about their transcripts and I don’t even have anything showing for 2024 even though I filed through H&R Block and it shows as being accepted and processing. I filed 4/14 so I know it is recent. But I can’t even check my transcripts because nothing is even showing for 2024. what does this mean?
