Refund issued (3rd bar) – 2/9/26@rkinsey0 You’re not alone. I’m also stuck on processing (2nd bar) and when I called last week, was told that my return was processing and that there were no issues or holds. Same job and address for decades and last year I received my refund quickly. I don’t know what the holdup is this year.

Last year I received my refund in less than 10 days so hopefully the same is true this year as well.

I filed through the CA Franchise Tax Board website on 1/20/24 and it shows as processing on 1/23/24. Last year, I received my refund 12 days after filing so hopefully, the same is true for this year.
1/18/23 – Filed and accepted
1/22/23 – Processed (could’ve been processed earlier. Today was the first time I checked)This is the first time in over 15 years that I haven’t had to call them to push my return through.

Called CA FTB to ID verify: 2/15
Refund authorized: 2/16*Update* I called (916) 845-7088 and he kind woman who answered said that a letter was issued yesterday and put me on a brief hold. She asked me a few questions (personal info, employer and the bank my DD was being sent to) and afterwards said that she processed my refund and I should receive an update with a DDD. I’ll provide an update with any changes. *End of

Accepted: 1/30My return is processing and I have the 1 month message. This has been the routine for me for over a decade and I generally receive my refund 21 – 30 days after I file.
A check from the CA state controller was scheduled to be delivered to my boyfriend today (I was notified via email from USPS Informed Delivery) but it wasn’t delivered. I let USPS know that we didn’t receive it and hope that it comes in tomorrows mail. My boyfriend always receives his tax refunds via DD so I don’t know why it would come as a check but there is no other reason why the state would mail him a check other an the stimulus payment.
@Marcy It is but thankfully I received it today.
Filed: 1/12/21

Filed: 1/12/21
Processing: 1/14/21Not issued as of today.
Refund issued 2/14 and received DD 2/21 (Wells Fargo). Good luck everyone!
I also have a 2/14 issue date and no refund yet. Although I was hoping for a DD today based on previous posts, it can take up to 7 days and the CA FTB website says it can take up to 10 days.
My refund was finally issued 2/18 . Does anyone know if you have an offset will it show on ca wmr?
If you have an offset, you will receive a letter in the mail. However, if you registered for an account on the CA FTB website, you will be able to view that letter there before you receive it in the mail.
I filed on 1/11/20 and after a couple of days, my return was processed and stuck on that status. Today I called (916) 845-7088 pressed 1 and a very nice gentleman assisted me. After verifying my info over the phone, he informed me that he would “expedite the processing” on my return and by the end of the approximately 10 minute call, it has been released.
Hope that this helps others in a similar situation.
My return is still processing and I have the following message:
“We received your 2019 California Income Tax return on: Saturday, January 11, 2020.
We are processing your return at this time. Please allow 1 month from the date you filed your return to complete processing. If we make adjustments to your return, we will notify you by mail.”
Last year was the first time I ever had to verify my identity (I’ve only lived in CA and have worked for more than 27 years and same address for longer than that). Hopefully that isn’t the case this year but I plan on calling them on 2/7/20 if there isn’t any movement by then since I know the state should’ve received my W2 from my employer.
Good morning all. My W2 posted to my ADP account so I filed today asap. Let the California waiting games begin :). Good luck everyone and happy 2020 tax season!!
@WZ I’m in the same boat. My fed was processed and dd back in Feb but am still waiting on my state. the state has requested additional information and I have submitted my docs and after chatting and calling them, was told that they have just requested employment verification from my employer (a month ago). The company I work for is relatively small and the request was processed and returned weeks ago.
I understand that the state has a lot going on but at the same time, I’ve been with the same employer (W2) for more than a decade and never had an issue with my refund until this tax season? Doesn’t the state have access to their own system where they can see that my ID, Driver’s license, car registrations, etc is linked to my name and address for more than 20 years and that state taxes have been taken out of my checks for almost as long?
I’m just venting but it is truly amazing that the state can’t get their act together with the technology that is available to them. I’m only getting back a few hundred and they act like my refund is in the thousands, haha. I feel that if they have questions about my identify/employment, etc., it would be GREAT if they stopped taking taxes out of my checks during this time period while they verified my employment but I know that if that was the case, my information would be verified the same day :) .
I’m done ranting.
Just an update, I filed on 1/19 through the CA FTB website and have been stuck on processing with the 1 month message ever since. I was going to call on 2/20 but when I checked my FTB account yesterday (2/13), there was a message/correspondence waiting for me. My return has been selected due to “The California Franchise Tax Board employs security measures to protect California taxpayers and the State from tax related identity theft. Your 2018 California individual income tax return was selected for review” and I need to mail or fax them my 2018; W2, 1099 (doesn’t apply to me), ID and pay stubs.
Not an issue, I just wish that the CA FTB had an option where you could sign into your ADP account so that the pay information can be transferred or confirmed immediately. I’ve lived at the same address for decades and have had the same job for well over a decade with relatively few changes in my annual salary. Maybe they are checking to see that I am still alive and kicking, haha. *Le Sigh*
I filed through the CA FTB website on 1/19/19 and was received the same day. When I checked the status on the state’s website, it still says processing. I’m a Pather (fed return) and wasn’t sure if this would delay my state return this year (although it hasn’t in the past and those returns were processed and issued within 10 days or less from filing date). I haven’t had identify issues or any changes from previous years (i.e. same job, address, dependents, etc) so am trying to guesstimate what the issue could be.
Filed on 1/19 and listed as received same day. No further activity listed since. Hopefully, there will be an update by this weekend.
@cantwait I filed on 1/19/18. I filed close to this time last year and received my refund on 2/22/17. Hopefully it will be around the same time this year.
@Celeste12 That wasn’t true in my case. I filed my state through the CA FTB website (for free) on 1/13/18 as HOH with kids and my refund was issued a week later. So H&R is incorrect in that instance.
Unless you have code “846”, then I think the cycle code is irrelevant since it hasn’t been “approved” yet. This is per the IGMR transcripts FAQ “The most important code that will signify your refund has been approved is “846” (refund release). If your account transcript has the “846” code then you can also use the cycle code to determine your direct deposit date (DDD)”. As of today, I have code “150” with a cycle date of 20180403.
