@Sumbeach Thank you so much!
I should clarify, actually it says ‘RETURN received’ …. ‘REFUND approved’ …. ‘REFUND sent.’
Yeah like that, except it showed under the user names, BESIDE each of their replies. Not replies all by themselves.
Why was my reply (yesterday) not posted???
Not me (yet) but following because I have the PP prepaid too, and it’s the same account I’ve always used, in fact just about everything about my return this year is identical to last year. Should be smooth sailing but who knows about anything anymore, lol!
Filed through TaxSlayer on 2/12
Accepted 2/13
1 Bar
Tax Topic 152
PatherFunds deposited to my Paypal Prepaid card at 8:30 p.m. Central time.
My DDD was 2/26.
I filed on 1/13 through TaxSlayer and paid them up front (no third party holdup).
Was accepted by IRS on 1/14.
My WMR still shows only two bars, no “Refund Sent” yet. Ha.I figured I would ask here since there are so many of you active on this thread and not on others.. Sbtpg is not working for me for some reason. It worked just fine up until about 4pm yesterday, and since then it keeps giving me an error message. Is it working for anyone else?
We’re “on” the other threads, but our comments have been in a holding pattern ….because……..a certain someone has put his crash efforts into some of those threads more than this one.
This is my third year on igmr, and I don’t even “belong” in this thread because I’m a PATHer so I’ve got at least another week to wait, probably more (we aren’t even seeing DDD’s or bars yet). But I decided to check out this thread to see if you earliest recipients were having trouble which the rest of us might run into. What I’m gathering is that the IRS is functioning fine, BIG relief, but yall are having the same problem I see every year, with the third party fee collector, and maybe Turbo Tax in some ways, in some cases.
I hope not to offend anyone by saying this, like if the harshness of this year has already “taught you a lesson”, or if you can’t apply any of this advice because of something in your circumstances. This is just my advice for anyone to consider and apply if you want.
So basically everyone here is at the mercy of FOUR entities (TT, then the IRS, then SBTPG, then your bank), all of whom do things on THEIR schedules, like not working weekends, holidays, etc., all of them having the potential for systemic glitches, and all of them having the potential to mis-enter one digit of your information and mess up everything just for you. And with their websites and phone customer service being AWFUL, it’s almost impossible to find out if your delay is just ‘you’ or more widespread. Even if you manage to get a human, they can be clueless, incorrect, or purposely deceitful just to get off the phone with you.
So to maximize your deposit speed:
1. DEFINITELY pay your fees up front if you can. Even with the very best case scenario, SBTPG will delay you having access to your money by at least one day. They are like a bridge troll and they are UN-NEC-ESS-ARY!!!
2. Having your deposit go to a traditional bank account and routing number is (for many people) at least another day delay. Get a Netspend card before next January, even if only for this reason. I have the Paypal debit card, which I love for too many reasons to go into here, but getting my tax refund and my job paychecks a day “early” is a biggie. –I put “early” in quotes because really I’m just getting my money the same day the payor pays it; all my coworkers or anyone having their refund deposited into a traditional bank account are being DELAYED.
3. Just from what I’ve observed over the years,TT is getting too big for its’ britches. Next year try another e-file preparer. I’ve used Taxslayer for several years and never had the slightest problem. If I do need to ask them something their customer service is fast, friendly and accurate. This year I decided not to do my state taxes through them because my state refund is puny, less than the add-on price for e-filing would be, and so I paid only $17 to e-file my IRS return. And it took me like 15 minutes start-to-finish because they import all my information from the prior year, and their format is so user-friendly, idiot proof. LOL I’m not a paid spokesperson for Taxslayer but I should be, I’ve gotten so many friends and family members to switch to them.Just curious about the people who are here every year telling people if they’re on PATH there’s no way they’re getting their refund before the 15th. First of all, duh. Now, if you’re directly replying to a PATHer who ASKED if they could get theirs early, that’s one thing, but why make a random post in every thread about it? And copy-pasting the topic 152 quote, as if it isn’t visible already, on the IRS site and here (one or more times in every thread). Even more perplexing are the people who give the vague advice to everyone to just relax and be patient; “you’ll get it when you get it,” basically. A lot of people posting questions aren’t trying to get a precise date; they’re wanting to know if there’s any sign they could face a disastrous delay (like months, which happens to some people). What I just don’t understand is, if you’re so relaxed and unconcerned about YOUR refund, why are you here at all? Even if self-righteousness is your thing, isn’t it more fun to shame parents, pet owners, voters, etc???
February 25, 2019 at 12:11 am in reply to: 1/24: It's after 9pm! Anyone with DDD of 2/27 have any pending deposits yet? #4300691I’m a 2/27 DDD and I checked my account before going to work this afternoon, ‘nothing’ of course. Also WMR still had just two bars, with my refund just ‘APPROVED’ not yet ‘SENT.’ I wouldn’t have even checked again tonight if it weren’t for this post, and even though I figured this was just another baseless rumor, I figured what the heck, it only takes a minute.
Well……OMG OMG OMG!!!! FULLY DEPOSITED AND AVAILABLE, to my Paypal Prepaid Mastercard, at 9:08 p.m. Central time.
More info, if it’s useful to anyone:
I e-filed via Tax Slayer on 1/22, paid the fees up front, not from my refund (learned my lesson about that two years ago).
Accepted by IRS on 1/24. Then it went ‘PATH Act,’ then ‘Processing’ on the 15h like most people.
Changed to ‘Approved’ with two bars and DDD “by Feb. 27th” overnight between Friday and Saturday.
WMR hasn’t even updated, still says ‘Approved’ with two bars.
THANK YOU NIKKI FOR STARTING THIS THREAD!!! AND GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
February 24, 2019 at 7:37 am in reply to: Glorious vision of two bars and the word "Approved" but I’m still mad #4299620@chicagoannie I suspected the same thing, that the phone reps aren’t allowed to say anything about the shutdown or the unusually long delay. The day that I spoke with 5 different reps, each one of them seemed annoyed that I already knew about PATH because it took away the only piece of “information” they could “give” me. Even AFTER I said I understood that PATH returns could not begin until the 15th, they said it to me like they were literally reading from a script. One of them even phrased the “27th” date as “the week of the 27th.” Now what’s interesting about that is, normally when people say the week of a date, that date is a Monday, in other words that day or one of the other days after, within that week. But the 27th is on a Wednesday. TWO YEARS AGO (the first year affected by PATH), the 27th was a Monday. So in other words, she was still using the February 2017 script!
February 23, 2019 at 5:58 pm in reply to: Glorious vision of two bars and the word "Approved" but I’m still mad #4299045DhjhasMS It sounds like you are talking about the PATH Act that is an identity verification system, and was already in effect the past two years. If you’re talking about something else, what is it called? Got any links? I would like to read about it.
February 23, 2019 at 5:58 pm in reply to: Glorious vision of two bars and the word "Approved" but I’m still mad #4299067growing a brain The reason that makes me angry is just because you know somebody living recklessly doesn’t mean anything about a stranger whose situation you don’t know. There are countless things that can happen to people that are completely out of their control, but I’m not being specific on purpose, because somebody could construe any hardship as deserved, somehow. People will go to any lengths to blame people for their own suffering, and punch down instead of up. And the people who are ‘up’ out of the suffering LOVVVVVE that flaw in human nature. It works nicely for them.
Same here. Got my hopes all up for nothing AGAIN. SO SICK OF THISSSS!!!!!
February 21, 2019 at 4:36 pm in reply to: "This service will be unavailable due to system maintenance." #4291591Well it’s back up now……….no changes for me. UUUUGGGGHHH I AM SO SICK OF THIS!!!!!!!!!
February 21, 2019 at 4:08 pm in reply to: "This service will be unavailable due to system maintenance." #4291507I find the wording odd “will be unavailable” –ha, don’t they mean IS unavailable? Well that’s it I guess. Russia has taken over the IRS. Or maybe North Korea. LOL
I’ve now received THREE emails with three versions of a reply from someone here. I don’t know if she keeps writing them because they’re not posting here (I’m seeing a weird delay effect between email notifications of mentions and posts visible here, so maybe it’s the same for everyone). Anyway, in case her replies do post here, I’ll go ahead and respond to her claim that landlords can’t evict people for being “only” a month behind on rent, I guess to either accuse me of lying about the urgency of getting my refund, or to suggest I’m some kind of scummy squatter who deserves eviction.
I’ve never heard of any place where landlords can’t serve an eviction notice anytime they want. I’m not even one month behind; I was 19 days behind as of yesterday when the notice was taped on my door. Mama Osa you are right–my notice says they will seek a judgement for eviction if I don’t pay by 7 days (and I just noticed it’s BUSINESS days, so that would be the 28th–if I get the deposit by then I’m fine).
But to the person who keeps writing me: I don’t know if you live in some tenant protection oasis state, but there is NO minimum past-due rent date in Alabama.
You don’t know what you’re talking about.
You don’t know what you’re talking about.
You don’t know what you’re talking about.
Now get a life and if you don’t want to read our “bitching and complaining” may I suggest the Disney website?I literally had a rep tell me just a few hours ago that no PATH’ers will get a deposit before “the week of the 27th.” When I asked how she knew that, she said “You have a nice day now” in a snotty voice and HUNG UP. She obviously had no answer to the question.
What I find surprising is that I haven’t seen anyone talking about calls where the rep cited the shutdown as the cause for an extra fucked-up return season. Maybe they’re not allowed to? If so that’s bizarre, because it probably IS true, and I for one would feel less furious about the chaos if the workers could admit that’s what it is. Instead they’re just using the same old PATH script like everything’s going according to plan and it isn’t insanely worse than prior years. I find it especially telling that this woman said “the week of the 27th”?–A “week of” date is usually a Monday. The 27th is a Wednesday. Did they give her a ratty old script from Feb. 2017, two years ago, the FIRST PATH year???
I just spent the whole day finding out what a joke this is, and I wish I had read this thread (and others) first, because not only does it look like I made no progress; from what some here are saying, I may have SLOWED my refund. Sounds like you would need an advocate to advocate for you against these supposed advocates; the department is like antivirus software that gives you a virus.
Ralph Smith Just to let you know, I tried that expedited return for hardship thing today and I’m sorry to say it does not work, in fact I’m now kinda worried that I may have made my situation worse by trying it. –Please don’t feel like I’m annoyed at you or anything; the ‘Taxpayer Advocate Service’ website makes it sound like exactly what I needed too….but no.
So, I have basically been on the phone all day, or rather on hold most of the day. I’m too weary now to run through the whole series of frustrations I went through, but I will say the first 2 of 5 people I spoke to were within the first hour, and if it weren’t for how NICE the second person was, I would not have endured all the other hours and not-nice people.
The first one was just an IRS employee who seemed to delight in actively causing me despair, saying nobody on PATH can get their refund before the 27th, saying I’m under review, saying the earliest anyone from the Advocate department will even call me to start the application process would be 5 business days from now, and then she literally hung up on me, which is what made me find the website and direct phone number to the Advocate department. It was there that I talked to the second lady, who was very sympathetic, not only about my situation but about the mistreatment of the first lady. She said ‘hang on a minute let me see what I can do’ (you know how good THAT sounded!). When she came back she said something like she fast-tracked me through that 5-day thing, gave me a pin number, and said she was transferring me to an actual ‘advocate.’
Well, the rest of the day didn’t get me a single step past that. No speaking to an advocate, just 3 more low-level reps, each one taking at least 30 minutes to reach, each one insisting on looking up my refund like I wasn’t already “cleared” past this point, each one talking over me only to repeat stuff they already said (like children!), AND….each one saying totally DIFFERENT things. One even said that no PATH returns could even begin PROCESSING until the 15th (and no refunds til the 27th, same as that first woman). The one thing they were consistent on was that nobody on PATH can get hardship assistance. Again, I could have accepted that, if it weren’t for that second lady, who said no such thing about PATH returns. Also I think each person who answered the phone was putting me back to the back of the line on hold, because I had the audacity to still want to talk to an advocate and not just give up.
A few minutes ago while still waiting on hold for the umpteenth hour, I searched ‘hardship’ here in the forum search. The archived thread I looked at is utterly haunting, not only for how familiar it sounds, because of the DATES of the posts (MARCH), and some of those people got an advocate starting in January. Well, apparently I am ‘in’ the Advocate department now…..I only hope it doesn’t make me get my deposit even later than if I hadn’t wasted this whole day and gotten so depressed and scared I don’t know what to do with the evening.
Katt What unprecedented insights! Why has nobody here ever told us all the fact that millions of people file taxes and that it’s a systemic process? I guess people who know that have no reason to be here, which is why they never come here and inform us. Katt must be more than human, an angel perhaps?
Sort of off-topic but I’m really confused. –I’m getting emails with the heading ‘You have been mentioned’ and they are very nice messages obviously from members to me, pertaining to my comment within this thread, but I don’t understand why I don’t see them as comments HERE–wouldn’t that be what “mentioned” means? Also none of them show the member’s name, and the return email address is no-reply at igotmyrefund dot com, so I assume I can’t reply to them? Sorry, I’m just really unclear on how this aspect of the forum works.
It’s not just TT. I filed with Slayer and I’ve read post from people who filed all over the place who are also stuck on ‘received and processing.’
ughhhhhh. I had part of my rent money stolen this month, and yesterday I got an official eviction notice taped to the door….pay by (guess what date?)…the 26th. I thiiiiink the management company likes me enough to maaaayyyybe let me slide one more day if I ask between now and then. But it sure would be helpful if I had some proof that I WILL have the money then. You know, like a fucking DDD on WMR!!! This is beyond ridiculous. I filed on the 22nd, so it has now been 30 days, and I literally still don’t even know what date I’ll get the deposit. I find it especially galling if they are actually instructing phone rep’s to tell PATHers the 27th. If that’s the sad generic truth, why did it take Geisha doll’s rep 5 minutes to “find” that information? Are they instructed to put people on hold to create the illusion of personalized help? And let me guess, he was taking all that time just passively viewing Geisha’s information, not UPDATING it with her DDD.
I don’t know about today is President’s Day (a banking holiday) and last year it was on the 19th, not the 18th, because it’s always a ‘Monday’ holiday. Not sure what if any impact this has on the discussion but I notice nobody else is mentioning it.
Sean I’m right there with you. I’ve had the Paypal card about three years now and absolutely adore it. Not only is it perfect for direct deposits but I love the instant transfer capability from (regular) Paypal, where I have near-daily amounts coming in from Ebay sales. I have literally had checkout moments where my total bill came to more than I had in cash, so I whipped out my phone and transferred the money in seconds. The only thing I don’t like is how they no longer display your running balances on the transaction page of their website, like what this and that transaction made your balance. I can think of no reason to remove that basic feature. Regular (predatory) banks have done it as a way to keep customers confused and unaware they were using re-ordering software to cause overdraft avalanches (I know this because a law firm used my fastidious print-outs of summary pages along with kept receipts as evidence in a class action suit against my bank, and we won!). But up to now Paypal Prepaid has not appeared thusly predatory, so the removal of running balances makes me wonder if they’re going to ‘ease-in’ shiesty stuff. Keep your eyes open.
Well, poop. Did my question just end this whole thread or somehting?
Ooooo!! Scratch the question anyway–my 2018 earnings ARE showing up on the SSA website now! Yippeeeeee!
I filed via TaxSlayer on 1/22, was accepted on 1/25 (one bar), then like many here it changed to the PATH notice only on 2/2 (no bars, only the notice). I was encouraged by that, and then I tried Geisha Doll’s suggestion about the SSA website, but my 2018 earnings were not there yet, and they STILL aren’t there today, Wednesday 2/6.
What could that mean????Can anyone tell me what is the difference between acceptance and approval? I filed my refund via Tax Slayer Tuesday 1/22, and then today 1/25 they said it was ‘accepted.’ But on “Where’s my refund” there is no bar for “accepted” , just received–approved–sent. So what is the significance of “accepted”?
Don’t get frazzled by a single commenter making a claim that is different from what dozens of others are saying. It is very easy to type “I work for a tax company” and say something alarming without offering any remedy like a REAL tax expert would, and then just watch people panic. Monee for goodness sake, NO do not re-file; that would likely only cause you trouble.
