key tax return and refund dates
When can you file your taxes?
You can submit your tax return before the IRS begins processing as early as the first week of the year with many tax preparation providers. You don’t need to wait until the IRS begins accepting tax returns but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January. Tax returns filed before the IRS officially opens sit in a “queue” and are held until the IRS officially begins accepting tax returns.
Your tax return may be selected in a test batch. If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early. This can result in early direct deposits depending on the payment provider you select. Our cycle chart will update with key dates including test batch dates.
When does the IRS accept tax returns?
The IRS usually opens around the third week of January each year. They announce the opening date early in January.
The IRS will begin accepting tax returns in 2025 on January 27th.
When is the IRS test batch?
If you file your tax return early, it may be sent to the IRS in a test batch before the IRS has officially opened for the year. It is usually a week before the date the IRS begins accepting tax returns. This has resulted in refunds in the past that can be posted by direct deposit as early as the day after tax season opens.
When will I get my tax refund?
Early filers whose returns are accepted in a test batch can anticipate a tax refund as early as the day after the IRS opens the January filing season if your return was in the test batch. The day that the IRS deposits refunds varies for regular returns but we notice trends based on the method you chose to file and select to direct deposit. You can use our tax refund calendar or refund cycle chart to help find out when you will get your tax refund.
Where is the IRS refund cycle chart?
The official tax refund cycle chart published by the IRS has been eliminated and replaced with IRS FAQ. Refund cycle charts are now published by independent websites and vary slightly.
A good reference to use is the When To Expect My Refund cycle chart that is published early each year by the College Investor.

@PrinceAq: I’m a weekly 05
@PrinceAq: yes
@WellyNC: I’m in my second month waiting
Congressman Bean here in NE Florida reached out today but just said the TSA office was contacted and it could take them 6 weeks to contact me. Absurd. I might has well not reached out. Its been almost 4 months since I filed/accepted
@Boogerbaby089:
Hej B🤗 I hoped your return finalized in the meantime….
I assume you did not request help from Advocate/Congress.
🤞🏼 Good luck!!!!!!!!!!! 🤞🏼
@TisTheSeasonOfTorture: If it doesn’t change the result of the refund amount, I wouldn’t think you would need to.
@WellyNC: No idea, sorry I cant be a better help. I am on week 4 of my amendment….
@Boogerbaby089: *can’t
Good morning all my beautiful ppl! Quick question anybody stuck on 570 971 make an appointment at a local office see a quick turn around? I have an appointment tomorrow but can afford to miss work to go! SMH just wanted to see if it’s worth the set back financially.
day 97 nothing
@WellyNC: Amended in March for an error due to missing $300 in income (that didn’t change anything). Currently on week 6. Amendment code was added to transcript next day, but income never updated on transcript. BUT, I filed and was accepted on Jan 24th and have been sitting with a 570 and 971 since 2/26 with no real movement. So, my situation is probably completely different than yours.
My as of date stayed stuck on April 29th. 😩
@Red Dawn: Any movement for you? My transcript is the exact same as yours and nothing!
Hi everyone. Has anyone experienced an amendment this year? I was trying to see if it would take the full 16 weeks. Thanks all.
My As of Date next to the 571 code says 5/20/24. What does that mean?
I asked her what am I supposed to do about my hardship and if she needed anything from me. She could have cared less. I told her I’m a mother, waiting on a disability claim and my car is about to get repossessed and she could have given a fuck less. She won’t have to worry about me calling anymore or attempting to advocate for myself. I’m done and just gonna cut the losses. The stress is to great at this point.
I finally made contact with my congressional aide after 2 weeks of her ignoring me. She sounded very irritated that she answered the phone and had to have a conversation with me. She said she hasn’t heard anything and it’s not a fast process. Apparently she has to allow the IRS 30-60 days from being assigned. It’s been 30 if the advocate was assigned April 5th. Another 30 and my 120 will be up.
@Denise N.: at least yours changed. Did it change this morning? And what is your cycle code 🤔?
My as of moved to May 20th 😩
@PrinceAq: Did that 2 weeks ago never heard anything good luck
@Waitingfor…:nope just waiting.
@Harry a: wow mine hasn’t changed from beginning this year. I sent a request to my congressman. I hope 🙏 I hear some good news 🙏
Processing date march 11 are u kidding me irs
@PrincAq: Mine was n/a for the day yesterday then was back with no changes
Day 96 no changes
Why does the system always undergo maintenance?
@Kristey: it means you’re have nothing available for transcript but it doesn’t mean the IRS haven’t received your return. Have the same situation n/a in my online account. Good luck maybe next week
What does it mean if my top two boxes on my transcripts say na but the bottom one still say no return filed? I’m an 05 so weekly I assume.
570 2/26. As of changed like three weeks ago to 5/6. Only received one letter, 4464C. Stated do nothing but wait apparently 120 days. Up some time in June. Tax advocate and congressional aide on board since beginning of April. Still clueless as to what the issue is. Received W2C April 15th but don’t know what to do with it.
@Jennyb:
Same. Verified 3/5
Smdh
I don’t even know what day it is. I just know that I was accepted back in January. Had to verify verified back in March. Got another letter saying I gotta wait 60 days and here I am still waiting no 846 no changes on my WMR just the 570.
Day 95 no changes on transcript wmr is down
@Where did everyone go: I am still here. however I have no good news. Still waiting on
the IRS filed in February 26.
So quiet in here
Anyone here?
Hello, anyone here have good news?
Question: my boyfriend finally got his 846 after waiting since Feb 3rd because he filed the solar panel credit. Now on wmr it says his refund will be mailed by May 10th. He filed with hr block and got the emerald card. Are they mailing him a check?
