key tax return and refund dates
When can you file your taxes?
You can submit your tax return before the IRS begins processing as early as the first week of the year with many tax preparation providers. You don’t need to wait until the IRS begins accepting tax returns but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January. Tax returns filed before the IRS officially opens sit in a āqueueā and are held until the IRS officially begins accepting tax returns.
Your tax return may be selected in a test batch. If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early. This can result in early direct deposits depending on the payment provider you select. Our cycle chart will update with key dates including test batch dates.
When does the IRS accept tax returns?
The IRS usually opens around the third week of January each year. They announce the opening date early in January.
The IRS will begin accepting tax returns on January 26, 2026.
When is the IRS test batch?
If you file your tax return early, it may be sent to the IRS in a test batch before the IRS has officially opened for the year. It is usually a week before the date the IRS begins accepting tax returns. This has resulted in refunds in the past that can be posted by direct deposit as early as the day after tax season opens.
When will I get my tax refund?
Early filers whose returns are accepted in a test batch can anticipate a tax refund as early as the day after the IRS opens the January filing season if your return was in the test batch. The day that the IRS deposits refunds varies for regular returns but we notice trends based on the method you chose to file and select to direct deposit. You can use our tax refund calendar or refund cycle chart to help find out when you will get your tax refund.
Where is the IRS refund cycle chart?
The IRS no longer publishes an official tax refund cycle chart. It has been eliminated and replaced with IRS FAQ. Since then, dozens of versions have popped up, some better than others.
Thatās where we step in.

@Sheila_33: Good morning my friend hope your feeling better what you make of this year as of dates for Path keeps changing for some usually my is frozen but went from 2-10 to 2-17 when I first updated then on Wednesday it changed to 2-24 and Iām weekly and others did to not just mine this boggles my mind usually their frozen any insight
@Ms. O: All good codes here as well. My cycle code is 04 this year. It was 05 the past several years, maybe that has something to do with it.
@DanInTX: Iām an as of 2/10 and I have the good codes but Iām a PATHer and waiting on the lift so Iām basically āfrozenā until it lifts so nothing (even my as of) wonāt change.
@Walter DOG: Good morning, 0605 is weekly, correct?
@DanInTX: I have all good codes and transcripts have been filled in since last week but my as of date is Feb 10th as well. Not sure what to make of it.
@Amy Spence: Not a pather, just normal refund. Don’t know why code 846 isn’t appearing and my tax topic 152 is gone.
@Sheila_33: no just the normal refund from overpayment of tax. Do you know why my tax topic 152 would have disappeared?
Good morning guys. My transcript still says 2/10. I’ve noticed most people on path are saying theirs updated to 2/17 or 2/24.
@SennaGoFast: this is why I went with freetax because the waiting is ridiculous with TT and Sbbt
@Justin0255: later in the year. I think usually around August if I remember
@Justin0255: Those sometimes don’t populate until later in the year.
@WheredaaCash: Whatever it is they’re requesting information for, try to get it back to them by fax asap. Sounds like you may have went to the ERRS department and they’re just needed to clarify something. That’s most likely why you aren’t showing on transcripts yet.
@Kj: And I did the $25 early deposit thing with TT so who knows lol.
@DAL: When? I never updated. Just stayed at 2/17.
@Mommy_3: Goodmorning no no movement
All of my transcripts are filled out but not my wages transcript. When do those usually populate?
If SBBT already has it as “Funded” then why are they making us wait. It went to Funded friday evening….lol it mocks me everytime i log in and see that but still dont have the money…….LOL
@Mommy_3:
Thatās what I wonder and maybe itāll update us feb 15 sat morn transcripts are for dailies 01 I read
@dontknow: Are you expecting any credits besides withholdings?
TurboTax (5 days early option)
Filed: 2/8
Accepted: 2/8
Anybody else file around the same time and instantly accepted? what should I expect? Never had a quick acceptance.
@Mommy_3: i updated to 2/24 from 2/17
I’ve come to the conclusion that us 2/17s with 05 transcripts switched to daily and just don’t know it. That’s why we didn’t update to 2/24.
@Walter DOG: Thank you!
