Where’s My Refund?

Where’s My Refund?

When does IRS accept tax returns in 2019?

The IRS begins accepting and processing tax returns on January 28, 2019.  According to the IRS, Where’s My Refund tool is the best way to check the status of your tax refund.

When Can You File Taxes in 2019?

Most tax preparers will allow you to enter and submit your tax return beginning the first week of January 2019.  You don’t need to wait for the IRS to start accepting tax returns to start, but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January and some even later.  When you submit your return before the IRS begins processing, it will sit in a “queue” and be held until the date that the IRS will officially accept tax returns.  If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early in a test batch. This has resulted in early direct deposits in the past, but also major glitches because they are tests after all.

Where is the IRS Refund Cycle Chart?

2019 Refund Cycle Chart

The most recent tax refund cycle charts have already been published. The official IRS tax refund cycle chart has been eliminated and replaced with an IRS Information Guidelines for the Tax Preparation Community publication and the IRS says the best way to check the status of your refund is using the Where’s My Refund tool. However, various websites with refund calendars for the 2019 tax season (2018 tax year) have been updated with 2019 direct deposit and check mailing dates.

When to Expect My Refund?

IRS Refund Schedule Charts typically show that early filers whose returns are accepted before the end of January can anticipate a tax refund direct deposit as early as the first week of February.  The day that IRS deposits refunds varies but we notice trends that help you determine the time and days WMR updates and when your tax return is processed.

The refund calendar by the College Investor is a good reference which has been updated for 2018 here:  When To Expect My Tax Refund.

@Monksmom4-25: I had a similar situation. It could be that you got whatever it was out of default and it was removed from offset status. That’s what happened with mine. I think it’s safe for you to file now.

I filed mine through TT last night about 6:00 PM and just received the notification that my taxes have been accepted. Last year I received my refund on 2/21, hopefully this year will be similar. Now the wait begins.

@Stillwaitinghere: i had really hoped you had received your refund since I hadn’t seen you for awhile. Now, this shutdown has slowed everything down especially those still stuck in review or exam since they’re working with a limited crew of people. I hope you see something soon. Last year was awful for some.

To everyone who got accepted already did you pay the fees up front or were they taken out of your refund. File mine on the 4th with fees taken out of refund, (First time ever) and still haven’t gotten accepted use freetax. Just wondering

Just received email from TT that my return was accepted. Filed around 11ish last night. Checked WMR and on first orange block.
Still have a long ways to go since I have to deal with the Path act. Hopefully this year is smoother.
I received my refund about mid March last year and the previous year in September.

So im finally able to check my transcript again and nothing. Its still the same from Sept. Even though I was told that it would be expeditied bc there is nothing wrong with my return. Yet here I am 2019 and still waiting. So frustrating bc if there is nothing wrong why am I still waiting? Is there anyone else who is still waiting?

At first glance it looks like it's an advance option when you click how you would like to receive funds. When you read further into it , I realized it was just for the option of receiving your funds.

Sounds like you opted to receive your funds through their prepaid card.

    @MSR:

not a dumb question at all.

I use walmart moneycard thru greendot every year for the last 8 yrs. I usually just take what I need off the card through the Money service department in store. If you have a “Walmart Money Card”, you can access all your funds at the store with no fees taken out.

Last year I went straight to the counter and pulled out the majority of my money on my card in 1k increments ….no fees. it took a few transactions but the guy was extremely patient with me.

Unfortunately if its a straight Green Dot card they will charge you , from past experiences with that card. If you haven’t yet filed, I would apply for the walmart money card and use the issued rt/checking number given to you to receive your funds. You’ll get your card way before the deposit .

  55. Back again for the 4th year!

Filed Jan 11th, married-filing joint with educational credits and 3 dependents (children). Got accepted Jan 14th. IRS refund tool shows 1st orange bar and tax topic 152. Last year received path message after acceptance. Wonder how this year is going to play out. BTW if anyone has bought insurance through Marketplace, BE SURE to file those 1095-A or those penalties for not reconciling will catch up. I know A LOT of people who had Obamacare for 2+ years and never filed those forms with their taxes.

When will I get my refund?
The IRS expects the earliest EITC/ACTC related refunds to be available in taxpayer bank accounts or debit cards starting February 27, 2018, if these taxpayers chose direct deposit and there are no other issues with their tax return.

Hello all, a few questions :)

TaxAct is telling me now I have to use the paid version for filing EITC and Premium Tax Credit (Marketplace insurance) . Are all the online places charging for this now? Should I just pay the $25 and be done with it?

Second, any idea on the PATH “can’t release before” date this year?
