Where’s My Refund?

Where’s My Refund?

When does IRS accept tax returns in 2019?

The IRS begins accepting and processing tax returns on January 28, 2019.  According to the IRS, Where’s My Refund tool is the best way to check the status of your tax refund.

When Can You File Taxes in 2019?

Most tax preparers will allow you to enter and submit your tax return beginning the first week of January 2019.  You don’t need to wait for the IRS to start accepting tax returns to start, but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January and some even later.  When you submit your return before the IRS begins processing, it will sit in a “queue” and be held until the date that the IRS will officially accept tax returns.  If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early in a test batch. This has resulted in early direct deposits in the past, but also major glitches because they are tests after all.

Where is the IRS Refund Cycle Chart?

2019 Refund Cycle Chart

The most recent tax refund cycle charts have already been published. The official IRS tax refund cycle chart has been eliminated and replaced with an IRS Information Guidelines for the Tax Preparation Community publication and the IRS says the best way to check the status of your refund is using the Where’s My Refund tool. However, various websites with refund calendars for the 2019 tax season (2018 tax year) have been updated with 2019 direct deposit and check mailing dates.

When to Expect My Refund?

IRS Refund Schedule Charts typically show that early filers whose returns are accepted before the end of January can anticipate a tax refund direct deposit as early as the first week of February.  The day that IRS deposits refunds varies but we notice trends that help you determine the time and days WMR updates and when your tax return is processed.

The refund calendar by the College Investor is a good reference which has been updated for 2018 here:  When To Expect My Tax Refund.

Heyyyyy my 6th year back here!!!! Not filing until February but just checking in to see how it’s going so far. I see that people are panicking about their return not being accepted yet. From my experience, when I file early the test batch doesn’t start until a week before the irs officially starts accepting returns (Jan.29th) So I don’t think anyone has an acceptance at this point.

I was wondering the same. I see on Turbo Tax that mine was amended too. Hope they don’t send it in the mail for me to sign. Ridiculous that would just further delay it,as I’ve been waiting for a whole year. Smh. Let’s get the ball rolling now

You can claim the exemption, without having to submit documentation about the hardship, on your 2018 federal tax return.’

@India: It’s funny I did I get all different types of results! I read that a single (no deductions) taxfiler like myself should see a $1000 higher tax refund, but most of the things I’ve run it through says $1500-$1600.
I guess the real question is how do the tax brackets and standard deduction impact everyone?

@demewright01: Hi Dear, did you pay for funds up front or are you letting the software company take taxes out?

I know for sure if you use TurboTax they go through Santa Barbara. So Santa Barbara gets refund deducted filing fees for turbo tax and send your refund balance to your banking institution. So if your return is accepted with wrong account info on it that bank will reject it if account is closed.

Once it’s rejected Santa Barbara receives it back and from there you can send in account info change request otherwise they will mail you out a check to address on return.

Also you can Call them as soon as it’s accpeted that way you don’t have to wait for it to be returned back to them. Explain to the representative that you forgot to update account info. They will probably have you pass an identity check or send in documents. Sbtpg.com 8007797228

If you used another site I’m not sure on their banking systems.

    Best Of Luck!

    Welcome back all!
Before we even get into actually filing-I’ve been asking everyone if you should expect an increase or decrease in your tax refund due to the tax law changes? Thoughts? last year I had an $1800 refund.. Does this go up or down?

Last year I filed early and was thrown into an audit a week after the tax season opened. My only changes were self employment. I had claimed the same exemptions and my income had dropped to less than half than from the year before. I swore I would paper file or file later this year but I came to the conclusion that if I was going to be audited again I’d rather it be sooner than later. Unfortunately, there are still some stuck in audit or review from last year that have yet to see their refund. Not sure when they filed but sadly are still trying to get their refunds.

Hello. I love this site and come here every year and have been for like 5 years. I learned the hard way from being resequenced a few times to wait until the season actually opens (Jan 28th this year) to file as that has generally been faster than filing super early and getting resequenced. I am a weekly and also I never seem to get in a test batch anyway so I will be ready to file around the 28th.

@ImBackAgainAndPreggo!!: I think it may take a bit for efile acceptance because they have to get things up and running and deal with this shutdown. Last year I filed on the 8th and I was accepted on the 11th.

I have a question , I IRS sent me a letter saying that i did not file my return for 2015 and stated that if they did not receive a 2015 return from me that that they would process a return for me which said that i would owe money, I sent in the return but forgot to sign it and they sent it back will they still process their return.

    Hi Everyone!
I’m back for my 5th year for all the ups and down of the tax filing season. Every year you guys make January and February doable, while dealing with all the tax refund anxieties, which this year are already in full swing with the shut down and I haven’t even filed. Last year I filed on 1/21 and was accepted on 1/22. As soon as I start seeing acceptances in here I’ll file this year. Happy Taxmas Everyone!

January 28th will be when IRS will start accepting returns. However, PATH Act will still be enforced and we will have to wait til mid February for them to start getting processed.

came on here a few days back and noticed some mentioning Turbo Tax offering advances once IRS starts accepting returns.

where is this info located? I logged onto TT to put in my info to file and like every year for the last 10 yrs, it only gives me the option to pay from my return. I use deluxe every year. Is this available through an upgraded version?

    Just curious.

I started filling mine out today and my w2 seems to have box 1 and 7 swapped! My income according to my last pay stub was about 5,000 LESS than what is shown as my income ( the amount used to determine refund amount) but when I add box 3 and 7 together I get what’s in box 1 and what should be my income is listed in box 7???? I’m confused
