Where’s My Refund?

Where’s My Refund?

When does IRS accept tax returns in 2019?

The IRS begins accepting and processing tax returns on January 28, 2019.  According to the IRS, Where’s My Refund tool is the best way to check the status of your tax refund.

When Can You File Taxes in 2019?

Most tax preparers will allow you to enter and submit your tax return beginning the first week of January 2019.  You don’t need to wait for the IRS to start accepting tax returns to start, but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January and some even later.  When you submit your return before the IRS begins processing, it will sit in a “queue” and be held until the date that the IRS will officially accept tax returns.  If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early in a test batch. This has resulted in early direct deposits in the past, but also major glitches because they are tests after all.

Where is the IRS Refund Cycle Chart?

2019 Refund Cycle Chart

The most recent tax refund cycle charts have already been published. The official IRS tax refund cycle chart has been eliminated and replaced with an IRS Information Guidelines for the Tax Preparation Community publication and the IRS says the best way to check the status of your refund is using the Where’s My Refund tool. However, various websites with refund calendars for the 2019 tax season (2018 tax year) have been updated with 2019 direct deposit and check mailing dates.

When to Expect My Refund?

IRS Refund Schedule Charts typically show that early filers whose returns are accepted before the end of January can anticipate a tax refund direct deposit as early as the first week of February.  The day that IRS deposits refunds varies but we notice trends that help you determine the time and days WMR updates and when your tax return is processed.

The refund calendar by the College Investor is a good reference which has been updated for 2018 here:  When To Expect My Tax Refund.

    @Sheila_33: 2013 tax year so 2014 tax season. They just sent one at the beginning of January saying I had to use it to file. I also get one every year since then. However, nobody here has gotten their PIN number yet to file smh. Guessing has something to do with shutdown.

    @Mbry0625: Haven’t been notified of that but, I guess I will find out if my return gets rejected. Mine was a soft audit, I believe from what I’m reading, only had to provide my children’s adoptions and my income information.

    Here I am back to this lovely site for 2019! So I have a few questions I would like to get answered if possible. For years I used TurboTax and i was doing the taxes and at the end it was asking me to get the Deluxe edition cause I had a schedule 1 and I was wondering if anyone else had the same issue? I just have a simple tax return simple w-2 single no child. I ended up using H and R block since they let me use for free but I kinda got worried when I decided to check the wheresmyrefund site and says information is wrong. I was wondering if anyone knows if I have to wait till it gets accepted. Thank you!!

    I have a question. I have a new checking account but I just submitted my tax return and mistakenly left the old account info in. Is there a way I can change it or will it reject and send me a check. Really trying to figure out what to do, thanks!

    @Stillwaitinghere: State tax is not affected by Path, but some states won’t accept your tax forms unless you have also filed your federal. Check to see if your state processes without having federal forms filed.

    So do those of us still waiting for 2017 taxes still file or do we have to wait? Im not getting any information from them. They just keep telling me wait. They aren’t asking for additional documents or anything, just wait. Should I file just my state tax? Is state tax affected by PATH? Since PATH started I haven’t filed before that day. This is sooo much waiting.

    To correct my previous post this is what I am getting on TurboTax:

    Why do I need to upgrade?
    To claim the Child and Dependent Care Credit, you need to file a new Schedule 3 tax form which was released by the IRS this year. This tax form is not available in Free Edition, but is covered in Deluxe.

    got a letter from the IRS dated 12/31/18 stating they have not reviewed my return due to the high volume they received…give them till 1/24/19 ,and they will notify me if they need additional time. I will still be filing my 2018 taxes as normal and crossing my fingers one of them goes through !! or both at the same time would be perfect

    @Effie: No not if you are on time with making payments. If you go into default then it’s possible they will take it from refund but you normally you have to be months in default before that action takes place

    @Effie: Hi!
    It’s my understanding that as long as you are not in default, the student loan servicer will not send your debt for offset to your tax refund.

    good morning. Does anyone know if you will be offset for student loans if you are on a payment plan with a collection agency? I pay a monthly payment of $140 that is based on my income. I really wouldn’t mind if they went ahead and took it so I don’t have to worry about it anymore……but i am just curious.

    @Beebee21: Good morning!
    Yes, per the irs.gov site, the PATH Act is still in effect, with the estimated 1st date Pathers can expect refunds is the week of Feb. 25th.
    Hope this helps!

    Good morning and Happy 2019 everyone!
    Very happy to be back and now that I have my Enrolled Agent license for IRS resolutions, I’m ready to help anyone who has questions about the new Tax Law as well as changes moving forward with regard to tax returns.
    Pro Tip: PLEASE check the Refund Offset Hotline daily before and after filing.
    Due to the shutdown, the IRS cannot update this right now, but by Jan. 28th, the automated line should be fully updated, and will update daily thereafter.

    Should be interesting to see how this shutdown influences the length of time for being accepted to being able to view our transcripts

    @TaxStressed: if you never received it and didn’t get any letter than more than likely you didn’t fill out the identity quiz. Same thing happened to me, I never even got the letter to begin with. I didn’t get 2 years worth of my state. I had to send in all tax info plus all my info and got them this June.

    I never received my state refund last year and never received a letter. I didn’t worry about it until a month ago. what should I do?
