For all the people impatiently waiting on tax refunds.

A grapevine for taxpayers, by taxpayers.

Ask all of your tax refund questions.

The most frequently asked question we have is when will the IRS WMR update and what day are tax refund deposits. Use our calendar to find out what day you can expect to receive your tax refund.

IRS Letter 6419 and 6475

🚨 IRS Letter 6419 and Letter 6475 important for some tax returns to reduce errors and delays.
Check the mail for IRS Letter 6419 and IRS Letter 6475 to prepare your Tax Return. (Letter 6475 only applies to the third round of Economic Impact Payments.) The IRS stated information in the letters will help to reduce errors and delays. IRS started sending the letters to people who received the advance child tax credit payments and third Economic Impact Payments. The letter 6419 includes the total amount of advance child tax credit payments taxpayers received in 2021 and the number of qualifying children used to calculate the advance payments. The letter 6475 will help Economic Impact Payment recipients determine if they are entitled to and should claim the recovery rebate credit. The amount is needed to file tax return. Here is the statement from them about IRS Letter 6419 and 6475.

When does IRS accept tax returns in 2022?

The IRS began accepting tax returns on January 24, 2022.

Where is the IRS Refund Cycle Chart?

2022 Refund Cycle Chart
The most recent tax refund cycle charts have already been published. The official IRS tax refund cycle chart has been eliminated and replaced with an IRS Information Guidelines for the Tax Preparation Community publication and the IRS says the best way to check the status of your refund is using the Where’s My Refund tool. However, various websites with refund calendars for the 2022 tax season (2021 tax year) have been updated with 2022 direct deposit and check mailing dates.

When to Expect My Refund?

IRS Refund Schedule Charts typically show that early filers whose returns are accepted before the end of January can anticipate a tax refund direct deposit as early as the first week of February.  The day that IRS deposits refunds varies but we notice trends that help you determine the time and days WMR updates and when your tax return is processed.  This is an explanation and FAQ about when the IRS updates WMR and Transcripts.

The refund calendar by the College Investor is a good reference which has been updated for 2022 here:  When To Expect My Tax Refund.

Alas it is year number 3 waiting for errors that the IRS has done to be fixed!! I filed on Jan 24th was accepted the same day, used FREEFILE from the IRS website included my injured spouse got email saying everything is good! Bars on WMR moving perfectly, then I see on my transcript refund sent!!!! Don’t scream YAY yet, two weeks later says my refund has been applied to non-irs debt WHAT!!!! I then find out that FREEFILE didn’t submit my injured spouse form and getting an answer from them was like pulling teeth they wouldn’t verify if they corrected their error got someone on the phone from IRS and they stated they didn’t have the form, ok now do I send the form again or what because now when I look on FREEFILE I see Injured Spouse stamped on the top, (which wasn’t there on the original submittal), and still FREEFILE says you need to contact the IRS which is impossible since no one answers the phone there anymore. As in the last 2 years I contact an Advocate fax my form to her she says IRS has it now so am I waiting for 8 more weeks???? Or are they just going to fix their mess and send my refund, didn’t take them long to grab the refund!!! Oh yeah my as of date hasn’t changed March 21, 2022 and it is my husband’s child support he doesn’t work anymore, had throat cancer voice box removed can’t talk and turned down by disability twice!! full refund belongs to me, his kids are grown with their own kids!!!!!!!! when does it stop!!!!!!!!!

I filed my taxes on 2/3. I got accepted on within a week. I never got my deposit. When I got an update to my transcripts it had the 970 code. I have not had an update since 3/21. I went to my local tax office and had a meeting and they told me everything was right. For some reason I got my state tax return back today but still have no movement on my Federal. Does anyone have any Idea why this might be? Has anyone else had this happen? Thanks in advance.

@Denise: The cycle code is the date you posted to the master file. The date beside the 570 is the date the system hopes to have it resolved by. The negative account balance at the top of the codes is what your refund should be. If those credit amounts don’t add up to what the account balance is showing, that may be the reason for the 570 and they may be adjusting the refund amount after verifying the credits.

@THEshortEND: It’s been over a year now, don’t hold your breath on the automatic adjustment like they promised. File an amended return at this point, and do it electronically so that you’re not waiting a year just for them to ‘receive’ it for processing.

Hey guys. I’m new to this transcript thing. ( first year I’ve actually been able to see mine. My question is my cycle number is 20221805. I also have a 570 code for further action pending with a 0 dollar amount beside it with the date of 5/23 on it. What’s this likely mean ? Also with reviewing my transcripts I see 2 credit amounts, however if I add just those 2 amounts it totals more then my refund is suppose to be. Can anyone explain this to me? Is this maybe why the review hold has been placed , they’ve actually found me more money. Lol. ( won’t get my hopes up. ) this is the first year I’ve used turbo tax instead of paying JH astronomical fees. So I’m just more concerned then normal that I didn’t mess up when filing.

Apologies in advance for a stupid question but I was wondering if anyone knows if there are still people waiting to receive the 2020 unemployment tax refund? I submitted my return prior to Biden signing the waived federal tax on uc benefits and I never received the reimbursement. Am I kidding myself by hoping I’ll still receive it? Struggling right now and I know I’m grasping at straws.

Filed in Feb and accepted, received a letter that our refund was chosen to be reviewed in March. Just got a letter today that they need an additional 60 days for processing. So July at the soonest?? And the billion dollars they are sitting on that is owed to all of us is getting them millions in interest while we sit waiting as patiently as possible, desperately awaiting the money they owe to us. Money we paid into it in the first place but didn’t actually need to pay with deductions. Where us that interest going that they are collecting on our money? Is there any hope of a return this year? Child tax credits and eic apply to my situation. Has anyone gotten theirs yet? And how are they so understaffed? The pandemic hasn’t seemed to be an issue in quite a while now.

@Babymama720: The letter explains the adjustment, and once they’ve made the adjustment, then it essentially goes back into the system to be processed and update on transcripts. Once that happens and you receive your 846, that is what will then trigger the check to be issued on the specified date.

Hello, has anyone here received a CP12 letter? It says I should receive my refund within 4-6 weeks. Mine was dated 5/2/22, they made an adjustment on my refund. I still don’t have a DDD and my as of date is 5/9/22.

Why would a check take another 4-6 weeks??

@TABITHA: Definitely call the offset line. I said the same thing a few months ago and found out the state of GA took back taxes they said I owed since 2013! No letter or anything! They just said, “Wow, she’s getting a big refund”, and decided to take a big chunk out of it.

@Frank Remember when I had my breakdown and said the offsets weren’t on my transcript? They showed up last update! 6 of them!!!

@TABITHA: Did you call the offset hotline to see if there’s anything in the system, or do you have access to your transcript to see what it was and the amount?

Hello, for anyone waiting you are not alone.
I filed On Feb 1st, 2022, turbo tax had it come back saying my marketplace insurance was missing. I filled in the info again. and refiled. it was accepted within an hour or so on Feb 1st after I resubmitted it. March 10th I received a letter saying it was missing my marketplace info, the 11th i faxed over the paperwork and since then there has been no movement. I have called and they just tell me I must wait the 16 weeks.
Four weeks ago, a Rep told me I should qualify for Hardship for an advocate because of some issue I have going on. She told me to call them in a few weeks to check up.
I Called them last Friday and they said I need to wait ten weeks to sixteen weeks more before I call them back. Just have to wait.

@Debbie67$: You’re at 19 days as well, so you’re not even at that 21 day period yet; I know that’s not what you want to hear given your situation. Naturally, you’ll want to reach out to the tax advocates w/in the IRS.

@Itsmymoney83: if you search the comments for this year using ID verify, you’ll see several people that have posted on this–specifically the amount of time it actually took. I know earlier this year it wasn’t taking the full time; however, I cannot speak to what it will take now.

I’ve been waiting for over 10 weeks, received a letter to wait 60 days, which already passed, 10 days past the 60 days, no movement. Does anyone know how I can call the IRS and talk to an actual person? I’ve tried many times but it never connects me.

    Thanks

@Lasean1985: It doesn’t seem to take that long. Earlier in the year, it was taking only a week or two, but as the year progressed, it was taking around 3 to 4 weeks. But, even after the id verify is entered, and the return processes thru the first time, then there may be a hold for credit/income verification and that can take longer.

@Seekers8306: If he claimed it but actually received it, it may take a while to sort it out. They’re looking at these credits closely and verifying them so they may adjust when they find out he received it.

@Tera: If the bank refused it, the system would have notified to send a check. For some reason, it was flagged. You might consider getting an advocate with that take action on your Wmr.

@Sharon. O: Good morning. Normally when the dates are changing on previous years, they’re verifying something. Was there a missed credit that you’re filing for in the amended? If not, it may just be the system looking at previous income, unreported income, or verifying credits, etc. All depends on what the amended is in relation to.

@Sheila_33: Hi Sheila. I’m currently waiting on my 2020 amended return with as of date stuck at 3/23. I’ve noticed on my transcripts that the 2021 as of date keeps pushing out a week. That year is done. Is that something that normally happens or could it be related to the amended?

@MRZNO: yea there’s alot of us in that same boat right now. And it seems most of us won’t get any answers until around May 17th when tax advocates are available. At least that’s what I was told when I called.
