key tax return and refund dates
When can you file your taxes?
You can submit your tax return before the IRS begins processing as early as the first week of the year with many tax preparation providers. You don’t need to wait until the IRS begins accepting tax returns but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January. Tax returns filed before the IRS officially opens sit in a “queue” and are held until the IRS officially begins accepting tax returns.
Your tax return may be selected in a test batch. If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early. This can result in early direct deposits depending on the payment provider you select. Our cycle chart will update with key dates including test batch dates.
When does the IRS accept tax returns?
The IRS usually opens around the third week of January each year. They announce the opening date early in January.
The IRS will begin accepting tax returns in 2025 on January 27th.
When is the IRS test batch?
If you file your tax return early, it may be sent to the IRS in a test batch before the IRS has officially opened for the year. It is usually a week before the date the IRS begins accepting tax returns. This has resulted in refunds in the past that can be posted by direct deposit as early as the day after tax season opens.
When will I get my tax refund?
Early filers whose returns are accepted in a test batch can anticipate a tax refund as early as the day after the IRS opens the January filing season if your return was in the test batch. The day that the IRS deposits refunds varies for regular returns but we notice trends based on the method you chose to file and select to direct deposit. You can use our tax refund calendar or refund cycle chart to help find out when you will get your tax refund.
Where is the IRS refund cycle chart?
The official tax refund cycle chart published by the IRS has been eliminated and replaced with IRS FAQ. Refund cycle charts are now published by independent websites and vary slightly.
A good reference to use is the When To Expect My Refund cycle chart that is published early each year by the College Investor.

@anoel06: what day did your ohio state refund get processed. Just wondering how long the process date to deposit timeline is
@MelloDello53: does your 2022 account transcript say no return filed?
@Shay37: You can claim EITC for your children in their 20’s if they are in school and live with you (or you support them) and they are not in post secondary. 19 is NOT the cutoff age, trust me, I have had 2 over 17 since 2019 and I have claimed and received EITC every tear for them. They are 21 and 22 now, and I will be getting it again for both of them for last year.
@Twinkie: is the savings account still open? It doesn’t matter if it’s a checking or savings but if the account is closed then you will be delayed as the deposit will be rejected and sent back to the irs and then they will issue you a check and mail it to the address you put on your return. Hope that makes sense
Westing25: Weeklies have their transcript updates Thursday night into Friday, and some dailies update too. These links might explain it a little more into detail.

@MelloDello53: Its very possible you got switched over. I guess we’ll see in the morning. :)
@Yandyy: Started off nice but I think we have a temp drop tonight. Feels like I’m back in the midwest lol
@Sheila_33: Hey Shelia thanks..It’s getting cool here a little. How was it where you are this morning. You know we never get cool here me or you.
Hi my preparer checked savings instead of checking when filing, I recently switched banks and just literally caught the mistake, will this delay the deposit? Can it be fixed? Please note it was already accepted on 1/23

2019 I was in test batch usually had my refund by now I do not have credits or anything outstanding or owed. Only thing I can think of is I filed amended return last year my cycle code was 22024104 could I be a weekly now?
I filed Monday and was approved same day. Just checked my transcripts and they’re fully filled out, just waiting on the 846 code once PATH is lifted. I’m an 04 Daily. Still on bar 1 with the ” we have reciev3d your tax return and it is being processed ” message on WMR
I also have an Account Transcript showing this morning that is just boilerplate and no specific information. I filed and was accepted on the 23rd. Not a PATH. I don’t remeber this ever happening in the past
@ashleyrenae113: do you have ctc or either.
@Bw: Hi, from what I read on the IRS page, you can still get EITC if the child is under 19 and not claimed by anyone else. I know that Child tax credit cuts off at 17 for sure.
Just check my transcript I updated from N/A to 2/13/2023. I can see everything filled out. So I’m just waiting for the lift on the 15th. So I can see 846! This year I’m daily, I filed on the 23rd .
Has any Marylanders recieved an update today. I was accepted 01/23/2023
@Bw: Nope! Our daughter turned 17 last June. Doesn’t male common sense, because we are still supporting these kids!
