key tax return and refund dates
When can you file your taxes?
You can submit your tax return before the IRS begins processing as early as the first week of the year with many tax preparation providers. You don’t need to wait until the IRS begins accepting tax returns but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January. Tax returns filed before the IRS officially opens sit in a βqueueβ and are held until the IRS officially begins accepting tax returns.
Your tax return may be selected in a test batch. If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early. This can result in early direct deposits depending on the payment provider you select. Our cycle chart will update with key dates including test batch dates.
When does the IRS accept tax returns?
The IRS usually opens around the third week of January each year. They announce the opening date early in January.
The IRS will begin accepting tax returns on January 26, 2026.
When is the IRS test batch?
If you file your tax return early, it may be sent to the IRS in a test batch before the IRS has officially opened for the year. It is usually a week before the date the IRS begins accepting tax returns. This has resulted in refunds in the past that can be posted by direct deposit as early as the day after tax season opens.
When will I get my tax refund?
Early filers whose returns are accepted in a test batch can anticipate a tax refund as early as the day after the IRS opens the January filing season if your return was in the test batch. The day that the IRS deposits refunds varies for regular returns but we notice trends based on the method you chose to file and select to direct deposit. You can use our tax refund calendar or refund cycle chart to help find out when you will get your tax refund.
Where is the IRS refund cycle chart?
The IRS no longer publishes an official tax refund cycle chart. It has been eliminated and replaced with IRS FAQ. Since then, dozens of versions have popped up, some better than others.
Thatβs where we step in.
Get the dates, skip the guessing.
Each year, we compile the most accurate Refund Cycle Chart, built from IRS manuals, payout trends, PATH Act release dates, holidays, and real user updates, so you donβt have to guess when your refund will hit.
Check the IGMR Refund Cycle Chart and see when your moneyβs coming.

Tell me why the hell my as of date just updated to 3/23/26?!
@OhioBred87 @Shanshanπ morning guys I hope you are doing well!! So I updated this morning which Iβm very shocked, codes 971 & 977 as of date is now 5/25
@OhioBred87: ik itβs frustrating but the least expensive option to me would be mailing the 1040-x form. Ikik the wait time is hell but it worth a shotπ€·πΎββοΈ
I also did apply for the tax advocate assistance as well, so Iβm waiting to hear back from them because at this point I need someone to tell me something different because I need my money. I wouldβve been had my taxes last month like this is just crazy!
@MommaLee89: iβm in the same boat as you still no update for me as of date is still April 27 like I donβt understand whatβs going on, but I see how people are amending their taxes and getting it approved but when I try to amend mines through TurboTax it have me paned like a difference and thatβs not what Iβm trying to do. I just want to amend my taxes and update what needs to be updated and resubmit it like is there a way of doing that without me having to pay out-of-pocket please? Someone help me because at this point Iβm tired of call an IRS for them to tell me the same scripted answer.
Hello, does anyone know if there is a number I can call to verify my identity or return? My IRS account says no record of filing a return, but I see it says I need to verify, but no notices have been sent and I can’t verify online because it is asking me for a control number , but I don’t have one because no notices have been sent.
@Zara1: Iβm ok hanging in there and thank you for the update and Iβm so happy for your progress!!!
846 for 5/25 when should I receive
@MommaLee89: Hey how are you?Monday is my 3 weeks I amended.I amended on the 11th of April.I call one week ago and I was told they received it on the 13th.I efile amend.Ill check on Monday.Ill let you you know.Good luck to you
Is anyone else experiences in delay of a refund?
@Dollbaby127: Turbo tax
@Tifftiff689: irs transcripts are messed up. I have posted that on the site. Check wheres my refund today and it should have an earlier date
@Str8Nervous: never heard of that happening but I do know the transcripts have been messing up for months check wheres my refund today and see what it says. And what site did you file your taxes under
@Kisharai Transcripts have been messed up for about 2 months. Check wheres my refund today you should have an earlier date
Hey all, don’t know if this has been answered already, but anyone else have a may 18th expected refund day on trans?
@Dollbaby127: refund was rejected cause account was closed just before deposit date. Im guessing irs changed my wmr status of refund issued which had been since Feb 25th back to refund accepted bar and a statement of a 60 day review when seemingly when they finally received the deposit back. Said review started on April 13th.
@Mr. File your Taxes: Ok…thanks for the info.
Hello to the few left in here right now lol I’m hoping someone can help me out thought, My transcripts finally populated with all good codes (this is after having to verify my return) including that beautiful 846 code my issue is next to th846 code the date on more than 2 weeks out on 5/18 but it also shows on the top line as far as the return filed on the same date of 5/18 which has me confused because my return was filed the end of March. Is there possibly an issue or could this just be a glitch on my transcripts?
@Str8Nervous: Are you waiting on a review or your refund? If you are waiting on your refund because your deposit was rejected. If you are waiting on a check it doesn’t take no more than 2 weeks
@Str8Nervous: You should receive it via mail at any point now. The same thing happened to my brother.
No i filled January 24 did the id verify then the 971 im still on hold waiting.
Wow, it looks like everybody filed early, got paid, and left the lounge for the year
I guess no one knows anything about what im speaking on or going through. Thanks anyway guys.π
@MommaLee89: ok keep me posted in I will do the same
Good morning everyoneβ¦.does anyone know if it actually takes the whole 60-90 days of review from my refund being sent back because of closed bank account. I do know to be looking for a paper check eventually but what time frame am I looking at. The review started 04/13/26. Any help or knowledge would be helpful. Anyone
@Shanshanπ: not yet and it will probably be a while for me since I had to mail my amend
@MommaLee89: Have you updated since you amended?
Has anybody ever seen an 846 code populate with a refund date of 2 weeks away?
@justwondering26: I filed and was accepted on 3/9. Still one bar. Called and spoke to an agent. No problems. This year is simply taking longer than others. Rather than the 21 days, it’s taking 40-60+ days for alot of refunds. It’s just the way it is this year.
@Lisa4: I filed March 9, it is now April 23, WMR still says processing. Don’t be concerned. This year is just taking double, sometimes tripple the amount of time it normally takes. Not 21 days, but 60+ days in alot of cases.
Hey. Can someone assist me plz? I filed on 4/8 with a new tax preparer & he said it was accepted. Yet when I checked my online tax acct it says β Acct status – 2025 return is not processed β. Should I be concerned?
Whats the news with this partial outage?? Are people getting DD with this message? How long has this been going on?
Good morning everyone….does anyone know if it actually takes the whole 60-90 days of review from my refund being sent back because of closed bank account. I do know to be looking for a paper check eventually but what time frame am I looking at. The review started 04/13/26
@Shanshanπ©·: may have to amend depending on your situation
@MommaLee89: They sent me one too
My son filed a simple return on 4/2. Two wβ2βs, standard exemption, the only thing he had was his overtime exemption. He canβt see his transcripts (no account set up) and his WMR is still on one bar. My oldest filed the same day, same scenario. Single, standard deduction, just a w2. No update. Reading through it looks like whereβs my refund has been off or not updating?
@MommaLee89: OH okay I understand.Yes I went to freetaxact and it allowed me to.4 weeks ago I noticed that 570 and no letter. I just amended.I haven’t received a refund yet.So hopefully the problem is solve now.Pray it doesn’t take long.Good luck to you. Ill keep you posted
@Zara1: unfortunately I couldnβt amend online but I hope it doesnβt take long
@MommaLee89: I did mine online last Saturday and received accepted 3 hours later.I wonder how long it takes
So they put another review on me!!! Smh I just mailed out my amended return and itβs supposed to get there Monday so once it does I will be updating
So Iβve had a 570 code since early march and just updated today with a 290 code with a date of 5/4 and also (20261505) next to it and it said 0.00 next to it Iβm assuming this is a good sign because on my past returns I could the refund code very shortly after fingers crossed!
@Karolina guy: The IRS site has been giving inaccurate info for about a month now. Some people transcripts are showing the correct info some not. My friend hers was wrong for awhile she didn’t even know when she would get her refund and when it came it was still not showing her info on transcripts
@mickey m: It’s usually 2 weeks after you verify. They always say 9 weeks. But everyone I know that had it only waited 2 weeks.
Filed & accepted 1/28. Got a βwait 60 days take no actionβ 2/12, submitted amended return 2/12. Received a wait 60 MORE days letter 4/6. Transcripts updated with 846 last night!
How long after ID verifying are you put back into processing the IRS says 9 weeks but can it be sooner my daughter did hers yesterday and we are trying to figure out a timeline
@MommaLee89: Iβm still waiting to same dates in every thing. This is crazy
@MommaLee89: we are in the same exact boat! I never in my life of filing have ever waited this long. ATP i think theyβre using our money to fund this damn war! Lol smh
Day 43 of my EXTENDED 45 day review!!
03 with 570 code still no update, as of date still 3/9
And 570 code date still 3/2
ATP I donβt even think itβs worth calling them anymore π€·πΎββοΈ
Any idea how long it takes to get refund by mail? We did electronically, itβs been 4 weeks now, havenβt received.
I filed March 27th, claimed my daughter, no change on the wmr site, is that normal?
So sick of the tax season this year …..I filed in Feb and nothing one bar since I filed ….so sick of it……just give me my little rebate….damn

@RuthBaby: You very well may see a pending direct deposit in your account within the next 72 hours with a release date of the 13th.
Dang, I guess everybody’s gone now, lol.
Hey everybody. I had to an amended return. I amended on 2/28, accepted the same day. The 1st update on my transcripts was 3/27 with the 846 code & as of date for 4/13. WMAR updated a few hours ago to adjusted with a date of 4/3, which is today. Do you think dd will hit soon or will I be waiting until 4/13??
@Dollbaby127: ππΎππΎ I hope so
@MommaLee89: check your transcripts on Saturday morning because it don’t always be true about you have to wait a certain amount of days.
@MommaLee89: Yea Iβm think so for me to. π
@Shanshan22π©·: spoke to an advocate this morning and he said on 3/2 a message was placed on my account for an additional 45 review smh so it will probably be after the 16th for me at this point
Ddd has arrived from sbptg! Finally! Good luck y’all! See you next year
@MommaLee89: Me to girl hopefully we update soon.
@texasmomof3: thank you
I filed on 2/1 and was accepted the same day. Received code 810 on 2/9 and code 570 on same day. Got code 571 on 3/9. My as of date has moved from 3/31 to 4/1 to 4/6 to 4/13 and this morning it says 4/20. Still no 846. I have a simple return; not dependents, just retirement and social security. This is so frustrating.
Tomorrow makes 6weeks since the date on my 570 review notice π
Congratulations to everyone with DDD and Transcript updates!!!πππ
