Where’s My Refund?

You have questions, we have answers.

key tax return and refund dates

When can you file your taxes?

You can submit your tax return before the IRS begins processing as early as the first week of the year with many tax preparation providers. You don’t need to wait until the IRS begins accepting tax returns but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January. Tax returns filed before the IRS officially opens sit in a “queue” and are held until the IRS officially begins accepting tax returns.

Your tax return may be selected in a test batch. If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early. This can result in early direct deposits depending on the payment provider you select. Our cycle chart will update with key dates including test batch dates.

When does the IRS accept tax returns?

The IRS usually opens around the third week of January each year. They announce the opening date early in January.

The IRS will begin accepting tax returns in 2025 on January 27th.

When is the IRS test batch?

If you file your tax return early, it may be sent to the IRS in a test batch before the IRS has officially opened for the year. It is usually a week before the date the IRS begins accepting tax returns. This has resulted in refunds in the past that can be posted by direct deposit as early as the day after tax season opens.

When will I get my tax refund?

Early filers whose returns are accepted in a test batch can anticipate a tax refund as early as the day after the IRS opens the January filing season if your return was in the test batch. The day that the IRS deposits refunds varies for regular returns but we notice trends based on the method you chose to file and select to direct deposit. You can use our tax refund calendar or refund cycle chart to help find out when you will get your tax refund.

Where is the IRS refund cycle chart?

The official tax refund cycle chart published by the IRS has been eliminated and replaced with IRS FAQ. Refund cycle charts are now published by independent websites and vary slightly.

A good reference to use is the When To Expect My Refund cycle chart that is published early each year by the College Investor.

Sbtpg fees change cause they get half of TT fees. My theory is that they split the payment that TT changed us. I’ve seen this every year y’all It normally change a day before your refund is funded. Please Don’t worry y’all’s self to death it’s the same payment that was due they just split it up in two payments for TT and SBTPG

@aye4apple I meant check your bank account. Cause see, though uncommon you can get your refund before your WMR updates. It has happened to me a couple of times over the years – cause it might just be there. Its but the sweetest of hopes…if we are ID verifying, I believe we get a letter and then contact the IRS and provide any confirmation info and stuff they need to verify our identity. I’ve heard as little as 4 weeks and as much as 3 months. Its really disappointing, lets hope maybe things will work out for us. Its gonna kill me this year if I get delayed a whole bunch.

@nzxo: you’re saying check my transcript account tomorrow or bank account? My transcripts have absolutely nothing on them. Would they still process my refund? Does anybody know how long ID verify really takes. It says 9 weeks but I’m hoping not that long.

    • I Got My Refund!

    @Aye4Apple

I’m wondering if I’m the in the same boat. Sent it in 01/30 and accepted 01/31, I had bars at one poiint but for almost 2 weeks now my bars have disappeared and theres not even a tax topic. Just says still processing. My refund amount is still the same and stuff though. Get this though – my state got accepted and everything and I guess I’m sup[posed to receive it sometime this week in the mail. So idk what to do other than watch for any letters and pray they aren’t asking me to id verify.

Hang in there, check your account tom anyway

So I filed over 21 days ago. Finally received a letter last week to ID VERIFY. Transcripts are empty still. Am I out of luck? Do I need to just figure something else out? Is this going to be like the year I got audited and didn’t receive my taxes until the NEXT tax year. I can’t even cry anymore. So used to the bs.
