key tax return and refund dates
When can you file your taxes?
You can submit your tax return before the IRS begins processing as early as the first week of the year with many tax preparation providers. You don’t need to wait until the IRS begins accepting tax returns but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January. Tax returns filed before the IRS officially opens sit in a “queue” and are held until the IRS officially begins accepting tax returns.
Your tax return may be selected in a test batch. If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early. This can result in early direct deposits depending on the payment provider you select. Our cycle chart will update with key dates including test batch dates.
When does the IRS accept tax returns?
The IRS usually opens around the third week of January each year. They announce the opening date early in January.
The IRS will begin accepting tax returns in 2025 on January 27th.
When is the IRS test batch?
If you file your tax return early, it may be sent to the IRS in a test batch before the IRS has officially opened for the year. It is usually a week before the date the IRS begins accepting tax returns. This has resulted in refunds in the past that can be posted by direct deposit as early as the day after tax season opens.
When will I get my tax refund?
Early filers whose returns are accepted in a test batch can anticipate a tax refund as early as the day after the IRS opens the January filing season if your return was in the test batch. The day that the IRS deposits refunds varies for regular returns but we notice trends based on the method you chose to file and select to direct deposit. You can use our tax refund calendar or refund cycle chart to help find out when you will get your tax refund.
Where is the IRS refund cycle chart?
The official tax refund cycle chart published by the IRS has been eliminated and replaced with IRS FAQ. Refund cycle charts are now published by independent websites and vary slightly.
A good reference to use is the When To Expect My Refund cycle chart that is published early each year by the College Investor.

So chime ddd 2/23 still unfunded fees taken out return could we receive our deposit tm ?
I got a ddd for 02/22/2023 my bank is varo does anybody when I will get my refund
@vannyy: Yeah, it could definitely be that. I don’t really know a lot about it other than my friend updated Friday on WMR with code 203 and then DDD by 2/27. WMR then updated again today with the specifics of who the offset was for, the amount that was taken and what was left over for federal with a ddd of 2/22. I had never seen that before on WMR.
DDD 2-22 STILL WAITINH ANYBIDY ELSE GET THEIRS
I still have the PATH act message. I see two dates on my transcript. One is 2/27 and the other is as of 3/6. The only bad code I have is 570 and it has 0.00 2/27/2023 behind it. Can anyone shed some light on when I might see a DDD or might update on my transcripts with an 846.
@Santa: Still here :) Just reading comments, lol
@Santa: lol I guess so 😂
@Momof1: everyone must left lol
I’m like most of you in here with a ddd of 2/23 And waiting on my money. Last year my money was funded the day before my ddd, but it didn’t hit my credit karma card until the next day. Would be nice if I came early.
I hope everyone get their money early tonight
@Ty83: That’s what I am hoping, too! Fingers crossed for both of us! (I use chime for everything LOL- I just love them!) Normally, I’d be patient, but I need this refund for my mom’s cancer med. But, hey- atleast we have been approved. I’ve seen on here some have had problems.
@basketcasemomma: Hey I’m with you on this never again will have the fee taken from my refund lol and this year I’m getting my money to my chime card.. since I already use them for my payroll.. my Direct deposit for my refund is the 23rd and I get paid on the 23rd but because I have chime I’ll get it tomorrow night lol
@Megan: yeah. I honestly don’t think it’ll be here early LOL.
@Megan: hr block probley won’t give us our money early we probley will half to wait to deposit date
@vannyy: I call offset since Saturday till now and i enter my ssi and it says i have not debt or offset .
@basketcasemomma: turbotax?
@CaseyR15: No, waiting here too!
@VaGal07: I owed state last week offset told me and on Thursday my state refund was approved but was adjusted to pay what i owed and Friday got the remaining of refund deposited. On Friday I got 846 2/23 with my amount. On Saturday Wmr updated to approved with no date and your refund approved for direct deposit then on the message of topic 203. Where its has tax period date 12/31/2022 on the bottom left it has refund amount my amount of 846. Maybe it hasnt updated that they took my offset for state.
@Megan: The holiday has thrown everyone off LOL. I bank with chime, have DDD 2/23, and fees taken from refund. I will never do that again, lol. I will pay in advance. The way it seems on here, SBBT will update 2/22 and I might get that day.
Has anyone ever received a deposit on Presidents Day evening when it’s going through Republic? My guess is no.
@marykelly: Depending on your bank. I’d say between 8am pst and 3pm.
Filed 2-1 had the path message until Saturday ddd for 2-23 to hr block card.
@basketcasemomma: I filed with hr block (I’ve been with them for 15yrs), fees from taxes, ddd is the 23rd. I usually get it early with them but the Holiday has me thrown off.
@EricaChristyne: I have saw so many update with the 203 since Friday. I was thinking no way and that it was a glitch too. My friends case was not a glitch, she owed state. So I think if it didn’t update again to give you specifics on the offset, it has to be a glitch.
@Megan: Whats your DDD, bank, and did you pay fees with refund?
@Megan: Late this evening and forward, depending in your specific situation.
@Starr: OK..What number did you call?
Does anyone know about what time we should start seeing deposits roll through again
@Starr: What number did u call?
@JayLaw: Good afternoon Sbtpg
Receive your refund the morning of
DDD around 5:00 am other words
Early Am
@Starr: What number did you call?
@Thequeenofbee thank you yeah maybe I’m jumping the gun, the two prior years I got deposit on 2/25.
@Ank: haha perfect ! I totally get it and thanks I was hoping it would be fast … I have anxiety and deff an over thinker so want to get this over with . Still going to call tommorow and try to see if I can resolve anything over the phone .
OK folks been a bystander on here for a long time…now I need some advice about my taxes…my other half got her disability approved last year and received a backpay lump sum….we are no married bubi claim her as a dependent…do I claim her back pay???? She got a 1099.. From what I read on IRS.gov it said not to claim it on mine….????????
@ Scrantonjoe this gives me hope thank you! I filed midday Feb 14th, am a pather and have been stuck on one bar and N/A for transcripts, hope to see some movement tomorrow fingers and toes crossed. Thanks for the update again!
@VaGal07: Nothing was taken. It was the same thing last year and I got my full refund so I don’t know. My sister had it last year as well and she got her entire refund. Just weird. Thank you!
@EricaChristyne: I don’t know if it’s a glitch but my friend updated to that 203 message Friday and then today, WMR updated to tell her the exact amount taken and by who and the rest would be DD on 2/22. I don’t think I’ve ever seen WMR post actually who took the money and how much. I’m not super familiar with this but have been on the board for years so not sure if the update she got today was normal.
@Ank: She’s been kicking and fighting a lot longer than they told us in the beginning. They gave her a year max and it’s been three years. She’s too stubborn LOL. And thank you!
TPG still says unfunded for me. DDD 2/23. The refund is coming, why the hell am I so on edge right now about it? Lol!
