key tax return and refund dates
When can you file your taxes?
You can submit your tax return before the IRS begins processing as early as the first week of the year with many tax preparation providers. You don’t need to wait until the IRS begins accepting tax returns but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January. Tax returns filed before the IRS officially opens sit in a “queue” and are held until the IRS officially begins accepting tax returns.
Your tax return may be selected in a test batch. If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early. This can result in early direct deposits depending on the payment provider you select. Our cycle chart will update with key dates including test batch dates.
When does the IRS accept tax returns?
The IRS usually opens around the third week of January each year. They announce the opening date early in January.
The IRS will begin accepting tax returns in 2025 on January 27th.
When is the IRS test batch?
If you file your tax return early, it may be sent to the IRS in a test batch before the IRS has officially opened for the year. It is usually a week before the date the IRS begins accepting tax returns. This has resulted in refunds in the past that can be posted by direct deposit as early as the day after tax season opens.
When will I get my tax refund?
Early filers whose returns are accepted in a test batch can anticipate a tax refund as early as the day after the IRS opens the January filing season if your return was in the test batch. The day that the IRS deposits refunds varies for regular returns but we notice trends based on the method you chose to file and select to direct deposit. You can use our tax refund calendar or refund cycle chart to help find out when you will get your tax refund.
Where is the IRS refund cycle chart?
The official tax refund cycle chart published by the IRS has been eliminated and replaced with IRS FAQ. Refund cycle charts are now published by independent websites and vary slightly.
A good reference to use is the When To Expect My Refund cycle chart that is published early each year by the College Investor.

@Santa: Sounds like they just gave you your DDD
@Had_Dem_TwinsNow6: Probably Tuesday with NF, if not tonight.
@Guera: Can you check your EPS?
@Kikachu not logged in: hr block said my taxes was accepted and if you claim child tax credit or eic they will be processed on Jan 23 never heard no shit like this I’ll be next Christmas getting my taxes
@Edward Brown: I’m trying to think of what they would put a hold on it for. Are you claiming dependents that can be claimed by someone else? It could be that they need to verify some information. One can never tell with the IRS. They did me like that 2 years ago and I found out that someone else was using my social security number for their business and had racked up a hefty tax bill. I got my refund months later. But I hope your case is simple. 🙏
@TwoSetsofTwins: quite a few Chime returns have had settling issues and were subsequently returned to treasury as unpostable.
@Santa: oh wow, yea I did 4 people taxes this year and everyone got an acceptance within minutes of me submitting it. U didn’t get a text or email whatsoever on whether or not the IRS accepted or denied it??
@Michael: is that normal sometimes. I went back and checked everything I filed and nothing is missing or entered wrong. Do they sometimes randomly do this?
@Edward Brown: the 570 code is a hold on your return
@Kikachu not logged in: I have nothing not even a bar it says no information check your tax provider to see if they got email of acceptance right amount of refund and if I filed a conpet taxes refund in 21 days shit it been 21 days laughing out lol
Has anyone else who claimed EIC received the 570 transcript code on 2/17/23 who are in cycle 20230705? If so have you found out anything useful in regards to that delay?
@BestGaga777: I’m getting a paper check too for some odd reason. Can I ask what state you’re in? I’m in Florida. Just trying to understand why they changed my DD to a paper check.
@Had_Dem_TwinsNow6: do you see funds sent to republic?
Republic Bank anymore seeing movement my ddd 2-23
@Santa: are u able to access your transcripts? My WMR only has the path message, so no updates for me there either other than the 1st bar. But my transcripts shows that I have a ddd of 2/23
Filed n 2/8. Accept. 2/8. Have no idea when my DDD is because still showing 1 bar on wmr . but my dd dropped at 3 30 p.m eat today…netspend thru turbo tax…fastest year I have ever been thru…fees upfront…hopefully this news will help ease some minds…
@Santa: They already started processing, they fidntcrelease until 15th…and a lot of peoplecwill have DD dates of 22nd/23rd. Can you see your transcripts?
@Kikachu not logged in: hr block did my taxes on Jan 12 and the IRS accepted them Jan 25 and I still have nothing on we’re my refund I called hr block they said if you claim child tax credit or eic their not being processed jun Feb 23
@bleuinboston: thank you’ll I’ll check!
@Gators352: I get my VA disability on my NetSpend card and it comes 5 days early every month. I’m wondering if it will do the same for my refund
What is the blue text from?
@Jennifer: hi Jennifer I’ve been trying to find out how H&R Block deposits if you had fees taken out and I opted to use my personal netspend card. I filed online. How long does it take for them to transfer funds
Anyone with a ddd of 2/23 that filed through HR block seen a deposit yet?
heres the breakdown because i didnt explain correctly. i copied this from sbtpg under bank fees:
Total bank fees
$147.00
Option to pay with your refund $39.00
Fast Cash Advance interest repayment $108.00
Anyone with varo and deposit date of the 22nd or 23rd get their deposit yet?.No fees taken out
@bleuinboston:
@Tia008: You’re probably a weekly. I filed on 1/19 mine went from processing to that message after two weeks. Then it took two more weeks and I finally got an approved on WMR. In total it took 28 days…
@Pseudoku: I haven’t updated in trans either but IRS says I owe them for 2019 even when and if I updated they’re taking it anyway. Not letting it get me down F em I’m still working still making enough to take care of my family still staying in prayer and thanking GOD for what I have
@Irrationalrae: so mine was 147 total in Turbo tax. Self employed was 69 and state was 39 The fees to take the refund from federal was 39 = 147 which was the total listed as “fast cash advance interest repayment fee” on SBTGP (plus six bucks in sales tax)
Okay don’t judge….my cycle is 20230405 with a Feb 13th date. My transcript updated this morning with an 846 Refund Issued date of Feb 23rd. I’m getting a paper check in the mail (yeah I know it’s ridiculous….I didn’t even know they still sent paper checks!!) so does that mean they won’t mail my check until Feb 23rd or is it possible its already been mailed out??
OH SORRY ONE MORE QUICK QUESTION….has anybody seen any deposits to Money Lion with the refund issued date of Feb 23rd? ❤️🥰😘
@Irrationalrae: did you check you turbo tax order details? make sure they didnt charge you for deluxe or another extra add on package. i checked mine and it equaled to my self employed federal and state fees.
@Teleah4567: Also I know we’re in 2023 but you are selecting 2022 aren’t you. Just wondering because that a easy mistake to make. I know even know why they have it in the drag down option.
