key tax return and refund dates
When can you file your taxes?
You can submit your tax return before the IRS begins processing as early as the first week of the year with many tax preparation providers. You don’t need to wait until the IRS begins accepting tax returns but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January. Tax returns filed before the IRS officially opens sit in a “queue” and are held until the IRS officially begins accepting tax returns.
Your tax return may be selected in a test batch. If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early. This can result in early direct deposits depending on the payment provider you select. Our cycle chart will update with key dates including test batch dates.
When does the IRS accept tax returns?
The IRS usually opens around the third week of January each year. They announce the opening date early in January.
The IRS will begin accepting tax returns on January 26, 2026.
When is the IRS test batch?
If you file your tax return early, it may be sent to the IRS in a test batch before the IRS has officially opened for the year. It is usually a week before the date the IRS begins accepting tax returns. This has resulted in refunds in the past that can be posted by direct deposit as early as the day after tax season opens.
When will I get my tax refund?
Early filers whose returns are accepted in a test batch can anticipate a tax refund as early as the day after the IRS opens the January filing season if your return was in the test batch. The day that the IRS deposits refunds varies for regular returns but we notice trends based on the method you chose to file and select to direct deposit. You can use our tax refund calendar or refund cycle chart to help find out when you will get your tax refund.
Where is the IRS refund cycle chart?
The IRS no longer publishes an official tax refund cycle chart. It has been eliminated and replaced with IRS FAQ. Since then, dozens of versions have popped up, some better than others.
That’s where we step in.
Get the dates, skip the guessing.
Each year, we compile the most accurate Refund Cycle Chart, built from IRS manuals, payout trends, PATH Act release dates, holidays, and real user updates, so you don’t have to guess when your refund will hit.

@Bren: They also use cross river for fees now, quite a few people were having the same issue with sbtpg and it was because they didn’t have it and cross river did.
@Lillyoner: At the most, another week. Good luck!
@Djzizi: No, not tonight. Path freeze doesn’t lift until the 15th. You’re just going to have to hang with us for another week, lol.
It seems like everyone’s as of and processing dates changed but mine. I’m a daily and my as of date and processing date is still 2/16/2026. I’m hoping it’s a good thing and not a glitch.
@Sheila_33: so tonight nothig updates i got goood codees🙌
@Tigerlili_1: Thank you Tiger! Just every year, it’s such a stress. Lol
@Bren: They take a while sometimes to update with your info. My son-in-law used them last year, and they never had his info, but that is who sent our refund. Four days later, they had his info.
@Sheila_33: what is another cycle? Like another 60 days? Sorry for the questions.
Hello! Back again this year. I’ll update my profile shortly. Quick question? Does turbotax use CrossRiver ever if you don’t do the 5 day early option? SBTPG has no info on me this year. Filed and accepted 1/27, rather, as of date 2/23, all good codes on my transcript.
@Lillyoner: Usually after an adjustment, it can take another cycle to place the refund code.
Any idea on when daily update with 03?
Makes no sense to me how they can make me need to verify I’m me by sending a letter to someplace I haven’t lived in 2 years. Still haven’t recieved the letter there so I made an appointment to do it in person. Earliest one is march 10th. I can see if there was a reason but they give me my return every year without it. Sorry just venting. Congrats to all you that are doing good
@dj zizi: Since you’re an 05, you could see an update on transcripts next Friday with a refund date of 2/25.
@texas77: yes! You can get a ddd and be a panther, I did last year. Ask AI on Google it will tell you, I screenshot it, but this site doesn’t have option to post pictures
@Relief2020: I was the daughter in that situation years back, and you absolutely can claim them if, of course, no one else is.
My amended 2024 says it was adjusted on 02/06/2026…is it much longer to wait for the refund?
