Where’s My Refund?

Where’s My Refund?

When does IRS accept tax returns in 2019?

The IRS begins accepting and processing tax returns on January 28, 2019.  According to the IRS, Where’s My Refund tool is the best way to check the status of your tax refund.

When Can You File Taxes in 2019?

Most tax preparers will allow you to enter and submit your tax return beginning the first week of January 2019.  You don’t need to wait for the IRS to start accepting tax returns to start, but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January and some even later.  When you submit your return before the IRS begins processing, it will sit in a “queue” and be held until the date that the IRS will officially accept tax returns.  If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early in a test batch. This has resulted in early direct deposits in the past, but also major glitches because they are tests after all.

Where is the IRS Refund Cycle Chart?

2019 Refund Cycle Chart

The most recent tax refund cycle charts have already been published. The official IRS tax refund cycle chart has been eliminated and replaced with an IRS Information Guidelines for the Tax Preparation Community publication and the IRS says the best way to check the status of your refund is using the Where’s My Refund tool. However, various websites with refund calendars for the 2019 tax season (2018 tax year) have been updated with 2019 direct deposit and check mailing dates.

When to Expect My Refund?

IRS Refund Schedule Charts typically show that early filers whose returns are accepted before the end of January can anticipate a tax refund direct deposit as early as the first week of February.  The day that IRS deposits refunds varies but we notice trends that help you determine the time and days WMR updates and when your tax return is processed.

The refund calendar by the College Investor is a good reference which has been updated for 2018 here:  When To Expect My Tax Refund.

I’ve never been able to order RETURN transcript until they’re complete…the day before wmr updates me to approved. If it’s not done and the day before the system tells me they can’t do the transaction I’ve requested.

Interesting stuff. I’ll let you all know. Thank you.@Tigerlili_1:

@Kyminohio: It seems that weeklies stay that way for up to 5 years, but I have seen a couple people here who have been weekly since as long as they can remember. I think 3-5 years is the “norm” though (if you can say anything is normal about the IRS)

    I have a question please…

Once you become a daily for owing one year several years back, do you stay that way forevermore?

I’m asking because I filed Sunday, early. I was accepted within 2 hours. I always begin checking wmr for both state and federal immediately. I was stunned to see my state wmr stating it last night (after just a day and a half) had been processed and I’ll receive it soon. I didn’t expect any ddd from federal until Saturday morning (and still don’t really), but i just checked to order transcript for the heck of it and I was able to order my 2018 return! I’ve never been able to do that until the day before i see approved at wmr…which, being weekly is always on Friday. I’ve always known I’ll update like clockwork the day after ordering transcript…sometimes not being able to order until Friday night…but it’s a sure fire way for me to know.

@ace7018: right there with you… I’m a zombie today myself but couldn’t help looking more into those ridiculous manuals. Some interesting stuff in there. Whoever wrote it is pretty demented. Some things are SUPER clear and others are like “Sally may process on a tuesday if she is a sagitarious and likes the color blue, but if not if she was born on a wednesday in which case input stop code NOREFP and sally can just sit on her hands for 8 cycles” lol

@IRS Sucks farts: No, it doesn’t.
The PATH Act mandates that the IRS not issue a refund on tax returns claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit or Additional Child Tax Credit until Feb. 15. Note* only Earned Income Credits and ADDITIONAL Child Tax Credit….it doesn’t cover CTC.

@Kimmy: The credits are a “give me” the government gives to help people in certain income brackets and those with families. Most of the thousands people get are all credits, EIC – earned income credit, is the only one that you get – regardless of having children – for working. It’s their way of trying to bridge the gap between working and middle classes. There’s still a large gap, but it does help to get that influx of money each year… plus it helps boost the economy… that’s why we started calling it “Taxmas”.

@Kimikaze: Well, $100 or more it would depend on the need. $15 only? The IRS can cram it up their rears. $100 is a lot of money for money I earned but if I’m at the point of that low of EIC or ACTC then, I probably wouldn’t view it as worth it. I would find things I don’t use/need to sale, donate plasma, or something easy like that to fix the difference. LOL

@Kimikaze: I would give up $100 to not have to wait out the PATH act if I were getting more than $1000 back and most likely would get my refund back within 7 days.

@Kimmy: The amount differs for everyone. EIC and ACTC are refundable credits. Depending how income, filing status, dependents, etc, the amount you get back could be $1 up to thousands. If you look at your return it should tell you how much you got for those credits on lines 17a and 17b

@~Stacey~: Thank you for that, very nice to know. I will for sure be deleting it next year if I qualify because going through this for $165 is worthless. I did try to not take the $15 EITC but couldn’t figure out how. But the lil $150 ACTC would have still held me up anyways

Am I the only one who thinks $100 is a lot of money to throw away? 🤷‍♀️ I’ll gladly wait a couple weeks to get more money in my pocket. But then again, I changed tax preparers for the first time in years because TT was going to charge me $40 each for my federal and state returns. I guess I’m just cheap lol

Would it be possible to maybe see movement on the 14th since that’s the halfway point in the month or does it specifically say the 15th? Was just wondering.. since the 15th is a Friday and the Monday is a holiday.. last year my as of date was the 19th and I got my deposit on the the Friday the 16th? This year my as of date is the 18th so holding out hope for the 15th deposit on Friday again!!

Hello everyone…when checking the Sbtg website, it’s saying check the offset line and irs.gov (because they’ve yet to receive it). Is this the general message or just mines? 😳. That made me nervous even though I’m almost certain I don’t owe anyone.

@SimpleDimple: The IRS will not make the corrections for you. This is exactly why I’m now a weekly. I did the same thing back in 2013 like an idiot, and missed almost $5k of income. I ended up owing the IRS because of it. If I were you, I’d wait until I got my refund and then amend your return. Chances are there won’t be any difference in your refund (or you may get a few bucks more) but don’t just let it go. It’ll come back sooner or later.

Hi Everyone-How accurate are you finding the deposit charts to be for refunds? I filed and was accepted 2/2 at 12AM according to my tax man. I do not have the EITC or the ACTC, just claim my normal three kids on our taxes. We make too much money for the other credits? Should I expect a refund soon? Thanks!

For those of you who asked or are wondering, you do NOT have to accept EIC, ACTC or any credits if you won’t want them. You can delete them from your return before you submit. I know this because I did it for someone last year who was getting something like $134 back in EIC and she didn’t want to be held in PATH for that small amount when she was expecting almost $2k for the rest of her refund.

My co-worker filed and got accepted 1/29 she just received her refund in her bank account. It was only $96, she did not have any dependents. I filed the same day she did, I have 2 dependents, my refund is over $7,000 and I am still at 1st bar on wmr.

@cindy4: No, I did not. I think it will update to the Path on Saturday morning, I am a weekly and since my acceptance date was January 28, I think I missed the cut off. Did you update to the Path Message?
