When can you file your taxes?
You can submit your tax return before the IRS begins processing as early as the first week of the year with many tax preparation providers. You don’t need to wait until the IRS begins accepting tax returns but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January. Tax returns filed before the IRS officially opens sit in a “queue” and are held until the IRS officially begins accepting tax returns.
Your tax return may be selected in a test batch. If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early. This can result in early direct deposits depending on the payment provider you select. Our cycle chart will update with key dates including test batch dates.
When does the IRS accept tax returns?
The IRS usually opens around the third week of January each year. They announce the opening date early in January.
The IRS will begin accepting tax returns on January 26, 2026.
When is the IRS test batch?
If you file your tax return early, it may be sent to the IRS in a test batch before the IRS has officially opened for the year. It is usually a week before the date the IRS begins accepting tax returns. This has resulted in refunds in the past that can be posted by direct deposit as early as the day after tax season opens.
When will I get my tax refund?
Early filers whose returns are accepted in a test batch can anticipate a tax refund as early as the day after the IRS opens the January filing season if your return was in the test batch. The day that the IRS deposits refunds varies for regular returns but we notice trends based on the method you chose to file and select to direct deposit. Transcript updated to DDD of 2/26 this morning! Pather, cycle code 0605. SBTPG still showing as unfunded.
@Samiam: no if you used TurboTax and if you selected to get it 5 days early you will go through Cross River Bank.
Good morning. This is my first year using Credit Karma through TT to receive my refund in order to get the early advance. Does anyone know if the bank that CK uses(MVB bank) is a “no hold” bank? I got my 846 code last night and would like to know whether to receive my refund today as usually have with Netspend. Thanks in advance for any insight
I got an email from TT this morning with the 25 dollars added to my refund and I will get my refund an my original DDD that is this Monday
@TooTiredofWaiting: I don’t know what’s going on with mine then. I updated all good codes last Friday. Didn’t update this morning to a 846. Same codes, 150, 806, 766, & 768. Nothing new. First time this has happened to me. I’m a weekly too.

Everyone who did the 5 days early Cross river bank starts processing same day ACH deposit at 10 EST. Then 1pm ET THEN 4pm ET. Just confirmed with a Rep who was nice enough to tell me.

Question. I know for a fact I have 2 offsets, one for IRS debt and one for KY UI. When I call the offset line it says I have one debt that could be offset and to call Ky Dept of Revenue. My transcript updated to 846 code for 2/26 and the IRS debt shows paid. My question is wouldnt the KY UI debt show on the offset line or my transcript?

@mickey m: If it’s ID verify then you need last year’s tax return information and this year’s tax return information. I had to ID verify last year and I did so in person, it took less than 10 minutes and all they did was verify my banking information, looked at the prior year’s tax return, looked at my drivers license and social security card and that was it. It really wasn’t that bad.

@Dentonj88: turbo tax has a free edition that I use every year with no fees . I updated around 11pm last night with 846 for 2/26 .. should hit chime sometime this afternoon

@Barbz: since you were on path you will receive the $25 back for the 5 days early. TT shouldn’t have even offered it to path people. Someone who works for TT was in the chat yesterday and said the same thing
Filed/accepted 1/31. WMR and IRS portal says more information needed to complete processing your refund a letter has been sent takes 2 to 3 weeks to receive letter. I have not received the letter. I’ve tried call never ending hold I can only call during certain times due working. I do not know what to do.

@Nynah: I’m ready to fight SBTPG in an alley if im being honest. I’m always broke when I’m filing so I take the fees out of my refund but I really want to find a way around it next year
