When can you file your taxes?
You can submit your tax return before the IRS begins processing as early as the first week of the year with many tax preparation providers. You don’t need to wait until the IRS begins accepting tax returns but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January. Tax returns filed before the IRS officially opens sit in a âqueueâ and are held until the IRS officially begins accepting tax returns.
Your tax return may be selected in a test batch. If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early. This can result in early direct deposits depending on the payment provider you select. Our cycle chart will update with key dates including test batch dates.
When does the IRS accept tax returns?
The IRS usually opens around the third week of January each year. They announce the opening date early in January.
The IRS will begin accepting tax returns on January 26, 2026.
When is the IRS test batch?
If you file your tax return early, it may be sent to the IRS in a test batch before the IRS has officially opened for the year. It is usually a week before the date the IRS begins accepting tax returns. This has resulted in refunds in the past that can be posted by direct deposit as early as the day after tax season opens.
When will I get my tax refund?
Early filers whose returns are accepted in a test batch can anticipate a tax refund as early as the day after the IRS opens the January filing season if your return was in the test batch. @Sheila_33: You think a few cycle runs and then maybe? if they fixed it a week ago last wed and this week as of today is a week u think a couple more cycles and ill be in the mix to get a DD and update?
@texasmom27: Also, WMR still has one bar. DD date was listed on my transcript as 2/24.
Remember guys most traditional banks will deposit on that deposit dateâŚ..if your refund is going into your banking account some banks will hold it until that DDD and some will release it early
I received a notification in my online account on IRS.GOV that they need verify that I filed my return. I do entered a ID theft PIN every year for about the last 6 years. The letter went out 1 week ago. I have a PIN from that letter to open up the verification process. I wonder if anybody has gone through this.

Just got my DD here in Texas. Chime. Filed on Jan 31. PATH. filed with freetaxusa.com for free. 846 showed up overnight. Good luck to everyone still waiting :)

I received a message in my online account that a letter has been sent out. They need more information about my refund. It states there will be a letter coming with a verification code. They want to verify that I sent in the refund even though I have an Identity pin i enter every year. I first got the message about 1 week ago in my online account. Anybody go through this process?

I’m worried my wage and income transcript missing is gonna be an issue… I got accepted way back in Jan, PATH is lifted, TAS seemed to think things will happen tomorrow – but tomorrow is the date of my hearing… I just want all this to be overrr

Weekly 05 here with a ddd date of 2/24.. my refund hit my Wells Fargo account today.. sometime after 2 mountain time. Had fees taken out of refund through turbo. Good luck everyone!!

Quick question for anyone who took the loan from TT/CK… I just checked sbtpg, since I was curious, is the refund going to be deposited on that Credit Karma card? Because the last 4 digits of the direct deposit account is not my bank account, it’s the last 4 of that CK account. It’s not a big deal since now I know it’s not some foreign account but I was just wondering.

@Mandie: correct. It is not possible. That 846 is the code that must be placed on your transcript to trigger a release of funds either electronic or printed check.

@Morris: I’m a Chime. They always pay as soon as they get it and run it through their system. It has historically been the same day as the 846 is issued on the transcripts by the IRS.
