key tax return and refund dates
When can you file your taxes?
You can submit your tax return before the IRS begins processing as early as the first week of the year with many tax preparation providers. You don’t need to wait until the IRS begins accepting tax returns but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January. Tax returns filed before the IRS officially opens sit in a “queue” and are held until the IRS officially begins accepting tax returns.
Your tax return may be selected in a test batch. If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early. This can result in early direct deposits depending on the payment provider you select. Our cycle chart will update with key dates including test batch dates.
When does the IRS accept tax returns?
The IRS usually opens around the third week of January each year. They announce the opening date early in January.
The IRS will begin accepting tax returns in 2025 on January 27th.
When is the IRS test batch?
If you file your tax return early, it may be sent to the IRS in a test batch before the IRS has officially opened for the year. It is usually a week before the date the IRS begins accepting tax returns. This has resulted in refunds in the past that can be posted by direct deposit as early as the day after tax season opens.
When will I get my tax refund?
Early filers whose returns are accepted in a test batch can anticipate a tax refund as early as the day after the IRS opens the January filing season if your return was in the test batch. The day that the IRS deposits refunds varies for regular returns but we notice trends based on the method you chose to file and select to direct deposit. You can use our tax refund calendar or refund cycle chart to help find out when you will get your tax refund.
Where is the IRS refund cycle chart?
The official tax refund cycle chart published by the IRS has been eliminated and replaced with IRS FAQ. Refund cycle charts are now published by independent websites and vary slightly.
A good reference to use is the When To Expect My Refund cycle chart that is published early each year by the College Investor.

@dj: I hope you have a good day also. 🙂
Is anyone else still waiting for their 4/24 deposit to chime
Thank you IR 3 THREE Month anniversary congratulations 🎉 to meee 🤕 NO
@playingthewaitingame:

Who else is still sitting on one bar after you successfully completed your ID Verification?
@Fact$: yeah ok did you check the group or even on here they tell you the dates. If you don’t have access to your transcripts, then that’s something you might want to look into even on this site it gives you the Calendar of the mass updates and went to expect it on WMR I check my transcripts and my WMR every year if you don’t that’s on your personal preference just letting you know because last year my transcript updated & my WMR never did . Have a good day
I went on ahead and sent a message to my governor. We shall see.
@Tee22: nope
So I’ve tried twice this morning to reach out to my advocate. Phone rings but no answer. Called the advocate line was given a pin and transferred to someone, call dropped after 40 minutes of waiting. Called back, given another pin, right at 40 minutes call dropped again. This shit is beyond mentally draining at this point.
Did anyone update on WMR today?
I suppose those of us that updated last week for the first time since filing in January will be stuck another 2 months without another update.
@Not in a rush-but kinda: Idid thanks
@Harry a: Your Congressman should have a link to fill our a form and sign a release.
Day 84 contacted congressman yesterday day before called TA all she did is transfer me to irs what bs
@Sheila_33: Everyone has its nothing new lol I been coming to this site for the last 4 years I’m not new here at all. I said I understand bout the 846 code but everyone don’t have access to the online account so you just cant tell someone to go off the code or that their return isn’t complete SOME has to wait for WMR to update. I have talked to live Reps who stated their done processing. I come here just like everyone else for support and to support but if we all are going thru the same thing let people word things how they wont and just wait for a reply I didn’t write Amy 19 she wrote me and I responded like anyone else would have. It’s just advice nothing should be taken personal but y’all have a blessed day !
@GotaHeadache: mass update Wednesday, Friday’s on transcripts Thursdays and Saturdays on wmr
Did everyone get their refund and leave the char? It is sooo quiet in here!
@Amy19: You are welcome. Rough season this year unfortunately. I have honestly never seen so many stuck in these damn reviews for so long. They’re usually cleared up by April and this is becoming ridiculous.
@GotaHeadache: I know. I was asking if anyone saw an update today yet. It’s only 1 am for me here and i have been on one bar since January. Thank you for replying !
@helpp: Tuesday & Thursdays are mass updates for transcripts usually
The wmr will update the day after … Wed & Friday
Did anyone update on WMR yet?
@TisTheSeasonOfTorture: I really wish I could humble they asses! Like who can we contact to get on they ass like they should? Who do they answer to? This shit is playing on my mental
I completed my id verification successfully a few weeks ago. I filed and was accepted in Feb. Should I update on WMR with a DDD tomorrow morning?
@brooke: Hopefully you update tomorrow! We are all playing the waiting game.
Did anyone update on WMR today?
I have tc 150 with amount then 806 with amount and then 570 with no amount and the date of May 6th 2024 filed and accepted on Feb 25th still no refund and I already did id verification 5 weeks ago online and still nothing
@TisTheSeasonOfTorture: You are welcome and I too knew nothing about contacting my congressman until this year never had to in the past. I just don’t understand how the people that work for these companies are morally ok with giving people false information or for the advocate I have just listening to all my voicemails and not even giving me not one callback. Even if she had to lie and say she was working on my case I would have felt better, but nope not a single phone call email or nothing. I do understand being busy also but nobody should have to wait over a month for some type of correspondence back. That’s b.s.
@Sheila_33: Thank you Sheila! I thought about responding the exact way you did but felt I should just let it go. I hope you and your family are good. Thanks again.
@Shelleybeansss: Yes ma’am that is the office I was referring to. Good luck with them. They are definitely not helpful at all.
@GotaHeadache: you can bet they’re not in our situation. The audacity is sickening
The nerve of majority of the irs workers Ive talked to, to have a attitude….. like you mad cuz I want my money ?? and yall mfs getting paid to do a service yall obviously not doing to the best of you alls ability. Fck you give me your check then.
@JustWaiting24: I’m in clay county. Congressman Aaron Bean. His office has been non existent with a previous issue and the only thing the office will do is take messages. With no return calls
@JustWaiting24: they will give more info if you let them know you already have an advocate and have not been able to make contact. I will definitely try this and I do appreciate you sharing your experience. I’ve never been through this and didn’t know any of this existed until this filing season. I understand they’re busy but it’s bad business to never have your phone on. It’s frustrating as hell.
@TisTheSeasonOfTorture: So after days of not being able to contact the advocate and expressing much dissatisfaction the actual tax advocate line was who gave me the advocate’s boss name and contact number. She too never answered or returned any of my calls. There are more kind people that work for them than the IRS. Yes they too only are reps who answer the phones but they will give more info if you let them know you already have an advocate and have not been able to make contact.
