key tax return and refund dates
When can you file your taxes?
You can submit your tax return before the IRS begins processing as early as the first week of the year with many tax preparation providers. You don’t need to wait until the IRS begins accepting tax returns but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January. Tax returns filed before the IRS officially opens sit in a āqueueā and are held until the IRS officially begins accepting tax returns.
Your tax return may be selected in a test batch. If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early. This can result in early direct deposits depending on the payment provider you select. Our cycle chart will update with key dates including test batch dates.
When does the IRS accept tax returns?
The IRS usually opens around the third week of January each year. They announce the opening date early in January.
The IRS will begin accepting tax returns in 2025 on January 27th.
When is the IRS test batch?
If you file your tax return early, it may be sent to the IRS in a test batch before the IRS has officially opened for the year. It is usually a week before the date the IRS begins accepting tax returns. This has resulted in refunds in the past that can be posted by direct deposit as early as the day after tax season opens.
When will I get my tax refund?
Early filers whose returns are accepted in a test batch can anticipate a tax refund as early as the day after the IRS opens the January filing season if your return was in the test batch. The day that the IRS deposits refunds varies for regular returns but we notice trends based on the method you chose to file and select to direct deposit. You can use our tax refund calendar or refund cycle chart to help find out when you will get your tax refund.
Where is the IRS refund cycle chart?
The official tax refund cycle chart published by the IRS has been eliminated and replaced with IRS FAQ. Refund cycle charts are now published by independent websites and vary slightly.
A good reference to use is the When To Expect My Refund cycle chart that is published early each year by the College Investor.

@Yvette Talley: I’m wondering the same thing. My check is going to a non-existent address. Preparer used correct street address but wrong zip code.
@Idk š¤·š¾āāļø: me too. Accepted march 7
Transcripts blank with as of date April 8.
Wmr 1 bar return being processed

Simple 1040
Head of household
Small refund
Same address etc for 31 yrs.
The way this country has been shipping out money and forgiving student loans, figured we broke and borrowing from Peter to pay Paul.
Has anyone had to have an IRS refund check reissued??? How long did it take to receive the new check??
@shelleybeanss: I’m in the same boat. 4464c letter filed 1/22 accepted 1/23. 570 code on transcript no 971 code. Was told they need to check accuracy. 60 days will be on 4/22. As of right now still no update on Transcript. Cycle 05 weekly smh… hopefully I’ll get an update soon.
@Mitch: Iām in the same boat, with the same exact situation and dates⦠nothing, no notices⦠no letters no movement.
@Jacky_FL: not yet but it doesnt help when one irs agent tells me one thing and another tell me the opposite.its almost 2 months allready since it was first deposited then rejected. makes you wonder what kind of training they get. or are they just pissy and tell you anything
@LostNthesauce: I had decided to callback again and a nice lady said it was verified on the 27th of march even though I verified on the 22nd! So I would assume I was put back into the system that Wednesday? She did mention it was good that I called in because she have received calls from people who stated they verified online and it never showed on their end! She stated to give another week to update prior to also mentioning the standard 9 week script! Today is one week exactly from the 27th so Iām praying if not this week next week for sure!!!
Day 63 no changes
@Pnicole: I verified the same day 3/22 and when I called they asked for current address not current along with old address! Iām a weekly and my transcriptās are stuck on 2/19/14 smh
@Mandykaaay: i just found out once you verify online it takes your account updates according to your weekly/daily proccessing. I verified online on 3/22. It was on a friday so i missed that week to start processing again. I called last Thursday it hadnāt updated that I had verified. Today I was told it updated on 3/28 as verified which would be my normal weekly processing day. So I am hoping this week it shows something on my transcripts as now it has been put back into processing a week ago.
So my fderal return was accepted on Feb 26th. However, if I go to refund status it says that the return has been received but it is still being processed. When I check my 2023 tax transcript under account transcript it says no tax return filed. Also, it has a date on there of March 25th so I thought I might see some movement on or after that date but nothing yet. What do you think?
60 days almost up (4464c). No movement in 3 1/2 weeks. Hoping they resolve whatever it is and I donāt end up with another 60 day notice. 570 0.00 since mid feb. No 971 :/
@Jacky_FL: Did you confirm your identity online? If so call them. I confirmed mine online and it told me confirmed just for me to find out it didn’t go through and that sometimes the online doesn’t work. I had to call them and go through the entire process again and wait another 9 weeks!
Any due dates after April 3rd?
No changes here.
I filed on 2/4
accepted on 2/6
received cp05A on 3/18 and submitted income information, along with pay stubs and the original notice on same day, using IRS document tool uploader.
—-How long should this take to receive the refund and/or some movement on the transcripts or wmr tool?
@Mandykaaay: No movement,nothing, nada since IDV 3/5
How long after I identity verify should I see some movement on my transcripts or where is my refund?
Filed and accepted 2/25/24
Transcripts available 3/15/24 with tc 570
Tc 971 Notice issued posted 3/22/24
Refund under review
3/29/24 updated 846 for 4/3/24
I was reviewing my tax return and w2 form and found I entered the wrong amount from my w2 form for wages I had it as 68 instead of 66 and I’m sure thats probably why I have the 570 code. Will this fix itself?
My as of date changed from 2/12 to 4/22
Processing date still says 2/26
Does that mean change is coming? Lol
Why is WMR down all day?
Are they working on my return šš¤£
Anyone else here waited til almost end of March to file and having issues? Again this forum makes me nervous. No movement on WMR. I donāt personally expect to see any update other than the usual Tax Topic 152 until next week. Day 21 will be Wednesday next week. However I am unable to check my transcripts and am just a bit nervous about the process this year seeing so many early filer issues. Any one else filed a little later and seen any progress or problems?
@CHICAGOSRB: My theory is that theyāre so far behind, we were just the unlucky ones to be pulled for a review. Like you, my return is relatively simple. Aside from taking out some 401k money, like so many of us had to do, thereās nothing that should be holding this up.
Accepted 1/19 i got -570 on 2/26 971- 3/4 IRS continues to slow roll me as I just got a letter saying they need 60 more days. My return is about as easy as it gets and don’t understand how it takes 120 days to tell me i either f’d up or didn’t. I contacted my congressman as few weeks ago and they say it can take 30 days for them to even hear anything.
@Jacky_FL: unfortunately not yet. a few weeks ago i called irs and they said they got the refund back. but now i call and get a different person who says they dont have it back yet and that they sent me 2 letters which i never received. they supposedly sent a letter asking me to fill out form3911. so what was the other irs or why was she telling me it was back . the irs is a @@##$$%% joke anymore
@meow: I’m so sorry! I have not (yet) dealt with this kind of disaster. So much time went by – What does IRS say, mailed a check?
has anyone that used turbo tax with fees taken out of refund and sent to sofi bank that was returned ever get their refund yet. this is gettin so old. it was originally deposited to sofi on 2/7 and sent back so they say. but im still waiting, i will never ever use turbo tax again and i will be dropping sofi bank
Still no changes.. I don’t expect any refund till mid May at the earliest.
For those whose refund was approved last Friday, have yall received it yet? My date is for tomorrow4/3 but I have my TurboTax fee coming out of my refund. Just super impatient at this point on when Iāll get itš
And forgot one thing im now on medicare and they took 174,00 out of my check my state is paying my part b so waiting for refund on that too
If it makes any sense my return same as last three years amount a little different and im on day 62 no changes
This is the section of the IRM that addresses the tax payer advocate service. If you fall under any of this criteria, then you may be able to attain an advocate. IRM 3.30.123.5.9, TAS Criteria
My best advice for anyone stuck and not moving for weeks is to send a 911 tas request form to your local advocates office.
