key tax return and refund dates
When can you file your taxes?
You can submit your tax return before the IRS begins processing as early as the first week of the year with many tax preparation providers. You don’t need to wait until the IRS begins accepting tax returns but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January. Tax returns filed before the IRS officially opens sit in a “queue” and are held until the IRS officially begins accepting tax returns.
Your tax return may be selected in a test batch. If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early. This can result in early direct deposits depending on the payment provider you select. Our cycle chart will update with key dates including test batch dates.
When does the IRS accept tax returns?
The IRS usually opens around the third week of January each year. They announce the opening date early in January.
The IRS will begin accepting tax returns in 2025 on January 27th.
When is the IRS test batch?
If you file your tax return early, it may be sent to the IRS in a test batch before the IRS has officially opened for the year. It is usually a week before the date the IRS begins accepting tax returns. This has resulted in refunds in the past that can be posted by direct deposit as early as the day after tax season opens.
When will I get my tax refund?
Early filers whose returns are accepted in a test batch can anticipate a tax refund as early as the day after the IRS opens the January filing season if your return was in the test batch. The day that the IRS deposits refunds varies for regular returns but we notice trends based on the method you chose to file and select to direct deposit. You can use our tax refund calendar or refund cycle chart to help find out when you will get your tax refund.
Where is the IRS refund cycle chart?
The official tax refund cycle chart published by the IRS has been eliminated and replaced with IRS FAQ. Refund cycle charts are now published by independent websites and vary slightly.
A good reference to use is the When To Expect My Refund cycle chart that is published early each year by the College Investor.

Has anyone file for there 2021 tax return and gotten a date yet?
Hello all I filed on 2/24/2023 I still don’t have a transcript on IRS website. And I also tried to check SBTG it states my information is incorrect but it isn’t and on my IRS account my amount is shown but says expected amount with 152 message help please 😔
How often does DOR update?
Hello everyone.. so, I checked wmr this morning and my usual PATH message changed to “we have received your return and it is being processed”. My refund amount returned but with no Tax Topic… I’m a weekly and also got the codes 570 -feb 20 and 971 -feb 27. I spoke a Rep last week and was told a letter would be sent out on the 27th. But I have yet to receive one. The Rep also said that this letter could be sent out after I receive my funds. No he didn’t tell me what the letter is about. Only said that my return was randomly selected for extra look at, for me not to worry. Hoping he is right. And prayers to an update tomorrow night!!!!
Finally filed my taxes :)
@Keish: check urs
Question so my state is depositing first before federal to stbg I assume they take the fees from that and send the rest to my bank account Anybody know don’t have a deposit date yet from federal thanks
@Jan: mines is up as processing. Filed 1/29
@Keish: Not yet. Filed 1/24. The NJ where’s my refund site not showing as processing yet.
@Momof1: thank you! I have the tax topic and amount missing and still being processed hoping I update friday 🤞
Those of you that have the amount missing, I remember this happened to me last year. I had the still being processed message, plus the tt152 message, my amount was missing on the side but I did show the tax year end date. I updated that following Friday on my transcripts. However I’m not sure about the amount missing and no tt152 message. Hope this helps..
@Starr: I’m a weekly too, my wmr showed no refund amount last Monday and my transcripts updated to the top 2 saying n/a but bottom 2 show 2022. I’m so confused this year
@Tigerlili_1: Hun they still haven’t even mailed the check to me yet it has been printed since Friday but still not put in the mail yet n they sd can not express mail it to me either or overnight it either. SMH. This is crazy a whole week for them to put it into the mail box to come to me…. I’m so stressed out more now cause now truly no clue when I will get my refund they got there money already. Yyyy… uffff 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Updated as well to 3/03 . Ny really likes to see us sweat , those who didn’t update you up next
Hello everyone,
Filled 1/23 accepted same day.
Got PATH message and amount gone with tax topic 152 . This morning WMR says we received your return and it is being processed w/amount showing but no tax topic. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
@Savhad: I’m a weekly so my transcripts updates on Fridays
@Savhad: on Monday
Anyone got their state refund in NJ or a date?
@Starr: I’m not gonna say for sure you’re going to see an 846 this Friday, but I wouldn’t be surprised at all if you did. Good luck! :)
@Starr: my amount is gone too I wonder if the same happened to me. When did your amount disappear on wmr?
@Rocky: Your welcome i went thur the same thing last year once you do id verify your 💰 coming in the next 2 weeks or sooner.
HAS ANYONE GOTTEN THEIR STATE REFUND????
I have ddd 3/6 filed with tax act fees taken from republic bank. Does anyone know if I should expect an earlier deposit than the ddd with chime or do they not release until ddd. I usually always pay fees upfront and get 3 days early.
@Meme: Same thing happened to me 2 weeks ago. I also received that letter. Then this past Friday my transcripts had a 971 added with a 3/17 date on it. I called Friday and a rep told me the new letter was stating I needed to submit my w2s online which I did. I don’t know why they couldn’t have just asked for that with the first letter. This exact same thing happened to me two years ago
Please someone explain:
Filed and accepted 2/10/23, EITC CTC, received code 570 yesterday, today letter from IRS stating “we selected your return to verify one or more of the following: income, income tax withholding, tax credits, business income. “You don’t have to do anything, allow up to 60 days to complete this review.” My transcript has an as of date of 3/6/23 that was changed from as of date 3/13/23. I called and was given the answer “we can’t see your return until 3/7/23.

@Sheila_33: hi .. I have a quick update I talked to irs about my amount disappearing and tt152 reappearing. She said that my taxes was adjusted mathematically and that she sees a prediction date of week of 3/13 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽I hope this is true. I pray my transcripts update this week so I can see everything. I’m not expecting the magical 846 this Friday yet , but I will be looking for it next week.

Filed: Feb 16
Date Accepted: Feb 16
Fees Taken From Refund
Bank: BOA
Date Approved: Maybe Feb 25 as I did not check until Feb 27. I did not check on Feb 25 because only one week passed by since I filed on Feb 16 so I thought I was on the tax topic path message. To my surprise on Feb 27 I checked WMR site and I was on the second bar APPROVED. DDD for March 01. This is the first time I did not have the tax topic path message. I was APPROVED 10 days after I filed. Deposit in my account 16 days after I filed. I never received my refund this fast.
DDD: March 01
