When can you file your taxes?
You can submit your tax return before the IRS begins processing as early as the first week of the year with many tax preparation providers. You don’t need to wait until the IRS begins accepting tax returns but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January. Tax returns filed before the IRS officially opens sit in a “queue” and are held until the IRS officially begins accepting tax returns.
Your tax return may be selected in a test batch. If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early. This can result in early direct deposits depending on the payment provider you select. Our cycle chart will update with key dates including test batch dates.
When does the IRS accept tax returns?
The IRS usually opens around the third week of January each year. They announce the opening date early in January.
The IRS will begin accepting tax returns on January 26, 2026.
When is the IRS test batch?
If you file your tax return early, it may be sent to the IRS in a test batch before the IRS has officially opened for the year. It is usually a week before the date the IRS begins accepting tax returns. This has resulted in refunds in the past that can be posted by direct deposit as early as the day after tax season opens.
When will I get my tax refund?
Early filers whose returns are accepted in a test batch can anticipate a tax refund as early as the day after the IRS opens the January filing season if your return was in the test batch. The day that the IRS deposits refunds varies for regular returns but we notice trends based on the method you chose to file and select to direct deposit. I have a question if anybody might know so if you have to get a check mailed from Santa Barbara taxpayers group how long did it take you guys to receive your check if it went to your bank account in your account was closed

i ask when and they say it has not been sent yet
i ask when i should expect it and they say around march 15th

@Stillwaitinginfairburnga: I got that email on Tuesday and had my deposit yesterday since I was a DDD 2/25. But if your transcripts haven’t updated, it’s hard to say. It’s my understanding you cannot get a deposit until transcripts update with the 846 release code.

I just received to emails from TurboTax stating my refund is on the way can someone help me with this
I have a question I filed and got accepted on 2/8 when I checked my transcripts last week it that orange bar when I clicked on it it disappeared and my transcripts are still blank can anyone help me understand this I have not gotten in letters

@Helphelphelp: it came in a letter a little over a week after I got the code on my transcript but I had already called and talk so someone by then they just keep telling me I have to wait🤷🏾♀️

Good to everybody! I just wanted to give an update to everyone on my status. I received my federal on my chime card the day of 2/24, and woke up this morning this morning to approved for NJ state for 3/3. I must say this year was the smoothest ever. Thank you to GOATS on this site, Sheila_33 and Walter Dog. I enjoy seeing you guys every year. And thank you to the new friends I made this year. Good luck to everybody. I’ll still be on to help out as much as I can lol.

Just woke up to my dd sitting pretty in my checking account. Transcripts said 3/16 but wmr said 2/26 when it updated last week.
I filed on the 16thnof February 2026, nothing has moved. No transcripts nothing.
