key tax return and refund dates
When can you file your taxes?
You can submit your tax return before the IRS begins processing as early as the first week of the year with many tax preparation providers. You don’t need to wait until the IRS begins accepting tax returns but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January. Tax returns filed before the IRS officially opens sit in a “queue” and are held until the IRS officially begins accepting tax returns.
Your tax return may be selected in a test batch. If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early. This can result in early direct deposits depending on the payment provider you select. Our cycle chart will update with key dates including test batch dates.
When does the IRS accept tax returns?
The IRS usually opens around the third week of January each year. They announce the opening date early in January.
The IRS will begin accepting tax returns on January 26, 2026.
When is the IRS test batch?
If you file your tax return early, it may be sent to the IRS in a test batch before the IRS has officially opened for the year. It is usually a week before the date the IRS begins accepting tax returns. This has resulted in refunds in the past that can be posted by direct deposit as early as the day after tax season opens.
When will I get my tax refund?
Early filers whose returns are accepted in a test batch can anticipate a tax refund as early as the day after the IRS opens the January filing season if your return was in the test batch. The day that the IRS deposits refunds varies for regular returns but we notice trends based on the method you chose to file and select to direct deposit. You can use our tax refund calendar or refund cycle chart to help find out when you will get your tax refund.
Where is the IRS refund cycle chart?
The IRS no longer publishes an official tax refund cycle chart. It has been eliminated and replaced with IRS FAQ. Since then, dozens of versions have popped up, some better than others.
That’s where we step in.
Get the dates, skip the guessing.
Each year, we compile the most accurate Refund Cycle Chart, built from IRS manuals, payout trends, PATH Act release dates, holidays, and real user updates, so you don’t have to guess when your refund will hit.
Check the IGMR Refund Cycle Chart and see when your money’s coming.

Pending in navy fed as of date 2/23 and DDD 2/23
@OhioBred87: The rep told me to use the form on the it’s website
@clarissa: March 2nd on your transcript, is not the same as your DDD, that makes a big difference and needs to be noted, so people don’t worry. The true test is what date does your WMR say? Of course, WMR updates the day after your transcript, so that adds to frustrations I think.
@Kiko4610: I’m so annoyed WF closed my account yesterday for none usage within 60 days. And my deposits both was for today.
But I did talk to IRS, as long as you have IRS access to account they will send notice electronically to update banking information. Thank GOD!
Hey i have a question but dont know if I should put on a thread or just do it here so I’m just gonna ask here and hope it gets answered. On turbotax website where it gives me information about my tax return it went from payment pending to payment completed. I opted to have my fees for tt removed from my refund. I have checked my transcripts and it has no 846 but I am a 0505 with a processed date 03/09. Is that a good or just something that tt is doing because it just changed in last few days?
@Janel120: It depends on their banks. Some do not post when they see it, but instead will wait until the actual settlement date they receive in the ACH packet, which would be the DD you see in WMR. If you just got your release code today and have no holds bank, it will be this afternoon, usually before 5, but depending on your bank and its cycle, as late as 8pm.
It also depends on what time IRS releases the funds ( what time they actually placed the 846).
I received my DD THIS morning at 3 am.my date was for March 2nd. Good luck everyone.Wellls Fargo
@SouthernBelle601: ok just making sure. Thank you.
I’m Path submitted 1/26 accepted same day. I’m usually a weekly, but can’t check my transcripts.
WMR just updated this morning with approval with DDD 2/23. Received my deposit 10am , WF bank
Nothing credit karma..keep notes..don’t use turbo tax next year
@Morris: IM 0605 and not updated. My WMR still has the PATH message even. ha
@Janel120: There are alot of ppl who have stated their money has posted.
SO WHAT TIME IS THE 05 UPDATE PARTY TONIGHT !!??
@Tigerlili_1: I understand and I have a bank that releases it once it posts but some people got 846 yesterday and no one is saying their money hit makes me think something is off. My dd is saying 3/2/26 on my transcript and I have 846 this morning
@Blessed2bme89: They will release it the day before your DD. They say it takes 24 to 48 hours; it’s a standard script because they have no idea how each individual bank will take to process and post your payment, but it can take up to 48 hours depending on the agreement they have with ACH and the FED.
on PATH . I filed 1/20 ON TURBO TAX i have chime. still no 846 code and stuck on processing wtf
@Rellyohboy (logged out): Netspend checks 4 times a day for incoming funds. Depending on when Republic sent the notification, you should likely see it by 4pm.
Can someone please post once their dd hit after the 846 showed up something seems a lil different this year
@Janel120: That means it was approved and released, but getting your money isn’t instant; it depends on your bank. When your WMR updates, you will see an actual deposit date. Some banks will hold it until then, some will release it a day before, and some will release on their schedule immediately after being notified by the clearing house and treasury to expect the funds. If you have a no-holds bank, you will see it today or tomorrow, depending on when your bank receives the notification and whether it’s before cut-off times.
