For all the people impatiently waiting on tax refunds.

A grapevine for taxpayers, by taxpayers.

Ask all of your tax refund questions.

The most frequently asked question we have is when will the IRS WMR update and what day are tax refund deposits. Use our calendar to find out what day you can expect to receive your tax refund.

When does IRS accept tax returns in 2021?

The IRS will begin accepting tax returns on February 12, 2021.

When Can You File Taxes in 2021?

Most tax preparers will allow you to enter and submit your tax return beginning the first week of January 2021.  You don’t need to wait for the IRS to start accepting tax returns to start, but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January and some even later.  When you submit your return before the IRS begins processing, it will sit in a “queue” and be held until the date that the IRS will officially accept tax returns.  If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early in a test batch. This has resulted in early direct deposits in the past, but also major glitches because they are tests after all.

Where is the IRS Refund Cycle Chart?

2021 Refund Cycle Chart
The most recent tax refund cycle charts have already been published. The official IRS tax refund cycle chart has been eliminated and replaced with an IRS Information Guidelines for the Tax Preparation Community publication and the IRS says the best way to check the status of your refund is using the Where’s My Refund tool. However, various websites with refund calendars for the 2021 tax season (2020 tax year) have been updated with 2021 direct deposit and check mailing dates.

When to Expect My Refund?

IRS Refund Schedule Charts typically show that early filers whose returns are accepted before the end of January can anticipate a tax refund direct deposit as early as the first week of February.  The day that IRS deposits refunds varies but we notice trends that help you determine the time and days WMR updates and when your tax return is processed.  This is an explanation and FAQ about when the IRS updates WMR and Transcripts.

The refund calendar by the College Investor is a good reference which has been updated for 2021 here:  When To Expect My Tax Refund.

Filed on Jan 11th. Accepted Feb 10th. I had one bar with tax topic 152, amount and info on left until the 14th. My tax topic disappeared, bar disappeared, amount and all info on left still there. It changed from being processed to still processing and now after tax topic and bar gone..still being processed. My two main transcripts show N/A. I have no eic or dependents. I did get a letter from my state saying that I owe $69 to state taxes from last year…yet, I have no offsets showing on the TOPS number..very frustrating.

Still nothing! I filed 2/15 with Turbo tax and accepted 2/15 per text and email. WMR can’t find my info. My state is still pending. Never had this problem before. Within a few hours it will be 3 days since I filed and nothing. So frustrating!

@NY-Khidd: so with me being a weekly, if I filed on a Friday would that mean I would have missed the cut off for that week or still have hit it since it was the day they process? I’m pretty sure I was accepted on the 10th (didn’t think to write down the date i checked) but all of this confuses me….. every year!

It’s been about three days and every time I check MD state refund I get this message:

Your return has not been processed. Please note that acknowledging receipt of your return takes place when your return has processed and it appears in our computer system. Refund status is updated once daily at approximately 10:30 a.m

    Should I be worried?

Has anyone files the state of South Carolina and received a message other than the following when checking your status?
“We anticipate refunds will be issued within 6-8 weeks from the date you filed. If you filed electronically and received a confirmation, we have received your return.”
It’s so freaking generic like most things in SC. I don’t even know if it will update during the process or not.

My fellow IGMRerssss, loll…. I need your help.

My Oldest daughter did NOT file her 2019 tax return and now her 2020 return was rejected due to her AGI not matching. I am not familiar with this issue as ive filed every year and gave her the option of having me do her taxes, but grown girl status had her to proud to have mama do it. SO no she needs my help but i cant figure out where to go with this.

I know in past years TT had options to efile at least a past years return (or at least thats what I thought) is this a thing? Can her 2019 return still be filed online at this point? Ive been researching this a bit but it all points to her needing to mail in return for 2019 and since AGI is tied to that for 2020, that has to be mailed in as well? aye…im so lost right now.

wait so whats better being a weekly or a daily? your last comment about somebody being thrown to daily sounds like a punishment. i thought dailies were better than weeklies. meaning daily is direct deposit any day of the week, where weekly was only the deposit on one certain day of week each week

@Salavere: You become “disqualified” from being daily for many reasons .. if you were a victim of identity theft .. if you been audited in the past few years .. If you owed taxes previous years a few other reasons . No one knows for sure how or when they decide to switch you back to daily it just happens random one year like a lot of others here
