key tax return and refund dates
When can you file your taxes?
You can submit your tax return before the IRS begins processing as early as the first week of the year with many tax preparation providers. You don’t need to wait until the IRS begins accepting tax returns but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January. Tax returns filed before the IRS officially opens sit in a “queue” and are held until the IRS officially begins accepting tax returns.
Your tax return may be selected in a test batch. If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early. This can result in early direct deposits depending on the payment provider you select. Our cycle chart will update with key dates including test batch dates.
When does the IRS accept tax returns?
The IRS usually opens around the third week of January each year. They announce the opening date early in January.
The IRS will begin accepting tax returns in 2025 on January 27th.
When is the IRS test batch?
If you file your tax return early, it may be sent to the IRS in a test batch before the IRS has officially opened for the year. It is usually a week before the date the IRS begins accepting tax returns. This has resulted in refunds in the past that can be posted by direct deposit as early as the day after tax season opens.
When will I get my tax refund?
Early filers whose returns are accepted in a test batch can anticipate a tax refund as early as the day after the IRS opens the January filing season if your return was in the test batch. The day that the IRS deposits refunds varies for regular returns but we notice trends based on the method you chose to file and select to direct deposit. You can use our tax refund calendar or refund cycle chart to help find out when you will get your tax refund.
Where is the IRS refund cycle chart?
The official tax refund cycle chart published by the IRS has been eliminated and replaced with IRS FAQ. Refund cycle charts are now published by independent websites and vary slightly.
A good reference to use is the When To Expect My Refund cycle chart that is published early each year by the College Investor.

@Ank: ok thank you so much they said I have a letter coming March 6 but I do not want to wait that long to verify
@KinFl: ok will do thanks so much
@Britt / B: did you bank with chime as well? Or a no hold bank?
@Emily: I can look at transcripts but they are all N/A except wages but that is blank also
@KinFl: How are you lady? I was just talking about error resolution of 2021 I didn’t get mine until 3/24 that year. There was nothing wrong. But that year was crazy people got deposits with transcripts blank. What a crazy year
@Sandra123: You’re welcome. The 0 and return not filed yet is that they haven’t gotten to your return yet. But it’s happening sooner than later. Sending nothing but positivity your way.
@Chasingcarson_: Me and my sister both did the refund advance she got hers about 5 hours before I got mine, but still on the same day. So I was thinking since she ended up updating yesterday and got hers yesterday, that I would update today and get mine today as well. But based on the fact that you’re still waiting, that doesn’t seem like the case anymore. Just going to keep stalking Republic website 😅
Has anyone had an offset and still received their DD or DDD?
Have we seen any weekly transcripts still updating into the late afternoon?
@Starr: sometimes it could me you were resequenced and you just need additional time to process. Are you able to look at your transcripts. You can make account with ID me and it will show what code you have. But 2 years ago a lot of us ended up in error resolution and it delayed us by about a month. But look at your transcript. It’s free to make and it will show the codes
@Starr: if you go to the archives for 2021, there were a few of us in that error dept fiasco. Just use my user name KinFl to find the convo. I finally got it on April 6th, it looks like. It was just stuck in errors.
@Britt / B: right! That’s what I was thinking to. Because technically if they did everyone who got 846 yesterday, traditionally banks would still have to wait so I don’t know the logic behind it. I’m trying to figure out a pattern and so far it seems today 846 and yesterday 846 deposits are for people who opt in to use their cards
Got an 846 for 2/23 on the transcripts with EITC.
@Lavender: I have republic for fees and nothing here.
@DoraTaxRefund: When I had to ID verify I did so by phone but it was years ago and I’ve seen others more recently do so online. They asked me things about prior returns like old addresses on certain years, adjusted gross income for different years, past employers, social security number, date of birth for self and dependents, current address and I believe that’s it. Have your past few years tax returns available to reference and you should be fine. Also they always say to give 9 weeks after verification to process but mine was directed deposited like 8 days later so it’s not always that long.
@Chasingcarson_: 😂 Need to know as soon as it’s there man !!
@KinFl: ok thank you 😊
@Chasingcarson_: Yikes, I would think if that was they case, they’d put it in by the order they receive, by the day that is. But I figured Serve would be first because that is their card, so that makes sense.
@Vannyy: 846 comes before the 2 bars, you are good!
@Starr: I was in the error resolution dept in 2021. I still am not sure why. I didn’t get my refund until the first week of April but there was nothing wrong with my return. I think it was a processing error on their part. No audit or anything, just had to be manually reviewed I guess. I probably should look at 2021 thread to see exactly why. It was stressful waiting but nothing bad. And you may not be there as long. Let me check it out and I’ll be right back
@Crash1218: i wish turbo tax too today
@jay: Jay – CONGRATULATIONS. Looks like (per what I was told when I’d asked a similar question this morning, you’re FINISHED. Just a hurry up and wait for it to hit your bank account.
@Britt / B: lol I’ve been checking too, even signed up for text alerts 😂
@Help me: Jacksonville FL here how bout u hun
@Britt / B: I think they manual put them in but they only do serve first. They only reason I think it’s manual is because during covid it was mention. Just a theory though. But I haven’t found anyone like me or Casey who has gotten there’s or see it in republic.
@Confused & Skeptical38: Ok at the bottom it has 846 refund issued (Amount) and the date of 2-23-2023
Is there anyone in the group that got a letter from the irs treasury needing to verify? And what all was prompted. Thank you!
