key tax return and refund dates
When can you file your taxes?
You can submit your tax return before the IRS begins processing as early as the first week of the year with many tax preparation providers. You don’t need to wait until the IRS begins accepting tax returns but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January. Tax returns filed before the IRS officially opens sit in a “queue” and are held until the IRS officially begins accepting tax returns.
Your tax return may be selected in a test batch. If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early. This can result in early direct deposits depending on the payment provider you select. Our cycle chart will update with key dates including test batch dates.
When does the IRS accept tax returns?
The IRS usually opens around the third week of January each year. They announce the opening date early in January.
The IRS will begin accepting tax returns in 2025 on January 27th.
When is the IRS test batch?
If you file your tax return early, it may be sent to the IRS in a test batch before the IRS has officially opened for the year. It is usually a week before the date the IRS begins accepting tax returns. This has resulted in refunds in the past that can be posted by direct deposit as early as the day after tax season opens.
When will I get my tax refund?
Early filers whose returns are accepted in a test batch can anticipate a tax refund as early as the day after the IRS opens the January filing season if your return was in the test batch. The day that the IRS deposits refunds varies for regular returns but we notice trends based on the method you chose to file and select to direct deposit. You can use our tax refund calendar or refund cycle chart to help find out when you will get your tax refund.
Where is the IRS refund cycle chart?
The official tax refund cycle chart published by the IRS has been eliminated and replaced with IRS FAQ. Refund cycle charts are now published by independent websites and vary slightly.
A good reference to use is the When To Expect My Refund cycle chart that is published early each year by the College Investor.

If you filed with JH and require assistance you’d email [email protected]
If you you had fees taken put of your refund and you want to simply check the status you can go to:https://www.myepstax.com/refund-status/
Republic is for in office tax prep ARs…not online.
@lurker: I’m so happy for you! I don’t think mine will be here until closer to the 23. I did check SBTPG, and it shows anticipated amount, but says unfunded.
Does this mean I’m a daily?
I have a DDD of 2/22. The bank that the preparer went through for my refund, says that my deposit has been sent to my bank and gave me a tracer number. I haven’t been able to connect to a live agent at my bank yet but does anyone know how long it takes to receive after it’s been sent?
@Confused & Skeptical38: i did not get approved for the loan, but did not pay anything up front, have a 2/23 DDD 846 and got it on CK today (6 days early)
We had the 846 today with ddd 2/23 and a Pather. Fees coming out of the federal refund. TPG still says unfunded currently.
@Red: applied but denied
@Guera: Yes, Repuclic is for in office AR’s. If you filed online with JH you will need to go to:
https://www.myepstax.com/refund-status/
@lurker: Did you have the refund advance?
@Trinitydestany1: Republic is only if she went in.
For inlune, she’ll check EPS.
@Chasingcarson_: Ooooh, it just shows State. So that means they have not received Federal correct?
So got transcripts today finally and I got a 424 code ( examination request – says it’s to review your account to see if it needs to be audited basically ) and a 801 I think the refund freeze and letter sent code
Has anyone got the 424 examination request and had it be fine and lift immediately ? I’m hoping it’s because I owe them money and the transcript isn’t reflecting they took it … hoping someone can give me insight that has had it before sigh

@Jessica: I’m wondering the same thing! I, too, took a loan and have an 846 with 2/23. Hoping I get it early, but I read in the “fine print on CK” That if you have your fees taken out, or take an advance, the 5 day early rule doesn’t apply. Totally bummed me out.
@vannyy: I’m with u on this… mine says the same thing. Looks like it will be there on Thursday instead of getting it early like everyone else…
@Curious: it’ll say federal under refund detail. It should be under state if you already received state.
@Mommabear11: I logged in but where does it say if they received it?
@Yourfavgirl: At the bottom !
@CaseyR15: who do you back with?
@Guera: go to republic taxpayer and put in info just like wheres my refund. It’ll show if it’s Bern received and if you scroll down it’ll show if it’s been sent to your card
@Tia: that’s awesome congrats I to am waiting for mine to hit serve republic bank alrdy got their advance paid and all so its a waiting game
@Guera: according to JW website it’s Republic Bank & Trust Company. There should be a form with your taxes that notates which bank is pulling your fees because you have to give permission.
