key tax return and refund dates
When can you file your taxes?
You can submit your tax return before the IRS begins processing as early as the first week of the year with many tax preparation providers. You don’t need to wait until the IRS begins accepting tax returns but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January. Tax returns filed before the IRS officially opens sit in a “queue” and are held until the IRS officially begins accepting tax returns.
Your tax return may be selected in a test batch. If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early. This can result in early direct deposits depending on the payment provider you select. Our cycle chart will update with key dates including test batch dates.
When does the IRS accept tax returns?
The IRS usually opens around the third week of January each year. They announce the opening date early in January.
The IRS will begin accepting tax returns on January 26, 2026.
When is the IRS test batch?
If you file your tax return early, it may be sent to the IRS in a test batch before the IRS has officially opened for the year. It is usually a week before the date the IRS begins accepting tax returns. This has resulted in refunds in the past that can be posted by direct deposit as early as the day after tax season opens.
When will I get my tax refund?
Early filers whose returns are accepted in a test batch can anticipate a tax refund as early as the day after the IRS opens the January filing season if your return was in the test batch. The day that the IRS deposits refunds varies for regular returns but we notice trends based on the method you chose to file and select to direct deposit. You can use our tax refund calendar or refund cycle chart to help find out when you will get your tax refund.
Where is the IRS refund cycle chart?
The IRS no longer publishes an official tax refund cycle chart. It has been eliminated and replaced with IRS FAQ. Since then, dozens of versions have popped up, some better than others.
That’s where we step in.

@Sexy: See what tomorrow? I’m afraid I don’t understand.
@Sheila_33: not true you should see it tomorrow
@DI CAPRIO: Its a freeze on part of the refund. They’re looking at a credit. You may see a tax topic 576 on your Wmr in the morning. They’ll review it and release it if it is verifiable by internal data.
@Stephen: that’s not bad at all. Things have been unusually smooth the last few years so I’ll take this minor delay as a learning experience lol
@Monee: I just had a strange feeling something wasn’t right because nothing was updating on my transcript so I checked my husband’s and his account transcript says “no tax return filed”. Of course I knew that was incorrect. Someone on here gave me a number to call. Sure enough we are getting a letter via snail mail to verify identity.
Good afternoon my peeps well my account finally back to normal no more just 2021 tax year wen I login it’s back to 2024 and I can select previous years when before I was stuck on 2021
@Patiently impatiently waiting.:same for me. My refund just hit my Credit Karma money card
I filed on January 28 and still I don’t even have anything in my transcript or return documents. There’s nothing they haven’t even been processing. Is that normal?
Hey I was accepted into the early batch, but I have the child of ax credit and I received my refund just a few minutes ago. I wasn’t expecting anything till late Feb early Mar
Hey everyone my transcript up,the account transcript…it wasn’t like that this morning and I just woke from a nap/filed I think February first or second and was accepted same day. All zeros on on account transcript
@ASDMamaBear: it won’t populate with 846 until after path lifts.

Will we only see the 846 once path lifts? Or does it produce the 846 with a date scheduled for after path lifts?
Mine just deposited at 4:02 pm. I bank with chime
Finally I processed on the PATH. Got good codes and a processing date of 2/23. I’m a weekly.
@MSRazorbackPhD: yea I don’t think I’ma claim insolvency I’ma just pray my refund goes through as it is and then I’ll amend my return when I get my refund to include the 1099C I’ll just pay the 1,254 dollars back I’m just hoping it want hold my refund up and I’ll actually get it so I can amend after that instead of getting a 570 or 810 then having to amend it without behaving any money until they finish the amendment.
@Rubicon46: Everytime i verified I was the only one who did it even with me filling married filling jointly and after that it takes roughly 1 week to see a deposit date from the time you verify
