key tax return and refund dates
When can you file your taxes?
You can submit your tax return before the IRS begins processing as early as the first week of the year with many tax preparation providers. You don’t need to wait until the IRS begins accepting tax returns but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January. Tax returns filed before the IRS officially opens sit in a “queue” and are held until the IRS officially begins accepting tax returns.
Your tax return may be selected in a test batch. If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early. This can result in early direct deposits depending on the payment provider you select. Our cycle chart will update with key dates including test batch dates.
When does the IRS accept tax returns?
The IRS usually opens around the third week of January each year. They announce the opening date early in January.
The IRS will begin accepting tax returns on January 26, 2026.
When is the IRS test batch?
If you file your tax return early, it may be sent to the IRS in a test batch before the IRS has officially opened for the year. It is usually a week before the date the IRS begins accepting tax returns. This has resulted in refunds in the past that can be posted by direct deposit as early as the day after tax season opens.
When will I get my tax refund?
Early filers whose returns are accepted in a test batch can anticipate a tax refund as early as the day after the IRS opens the January filing season if your return was in the test batch. The day that the IRS deposits refunds varies for regular returns but we notice trends based on the method you chose to file and select to direct deposit. You can use our tax refund calendar or refund cycle chart to help find out when you will get your tax refund.
Where is the IRS refund cycle chart?
The IRS no longer publishes an official tax refund cycle chart. It has been eliminated and replaced with IRS FAQ. Since then, dozens of versions have popped up, some better than others.
That’s where we step in.
Get the dates, skip the guessing.

@AnyDayJustWaiting: I’m a weekly abs my wage transcript updated yesterday
Well big surprise my transcripts just updated to 846 on at 1:10 am est Thursday morning. I have alway updated Wednesday morning.
@DebMom: thank you, which is new to me since I’ve always been a weekly from what I remember
@HopefulinPA: 05 is weekly you are a daily
I am usually a silent reader of comments but wanted to say my tax transcripts just updated and looks like I have changed to a weekly? Cycle code ends in 04. My return transcripts, and record of account for 2025 were added, I had wage transcript added last Thursday. My account transcript still has not updated and still shows all 0s with a as of date 2/16 still but I have movement. No update to wmr as of yet. I dunno if that means I still have another week to wait or what but still have movement. I filed 1/23 and was accepted 1/26
Hey Nys has anyone received there return yet very curious 🤔
got my VA state today! 2 days early from given DDD,(Wells Fargo) fast! VA is working! feds could take a lesson
I’m usually a weekly.. I have a 560 for 2022 that says they have until 9/12/26 to assess tax but it has $0.00 beside it.. any ideas? Also I noticed my wage transcript updated today is that normal for weekly? Account still blank
@BB: you are a daily.
How’s everyone doing tonight.
Hope everyone is having a great night and may everyone get there money asap
Deposit hit today, same day my transcript updated
@ASDMamaBear: they will more than likely lift the Path freeze on the 17th, because they definitely won’t do it before the 15th. So since that falls on a Sunday and the next day is a holiday, they will hold off until the 17th. These kind of years are the worst – when the days align like that, and we have to wait a few extra days 😆
@BB: daily
Hi could anyone tell me what the date means, cycle20260503
I filed 1/31 looks like all transcript filled out. I’m I a weekly or daily. Thank you in advance:)
@ErisedMai: I do not have a refund date yet. I haven’t fully processed according to my transcripts. I believe I’m a weekly so I should update tomorrow night into Friday. I’m sure it will reflect then. When I’ve done a little bit of research, it sounds like PNC could have done the payment for the treasury.
@Momof2girls1boy77: It doesn’t usually. I have an offset pretty much every year and once you have a refund date the offset line updates almost at the same time and should give you a date.
@ErisedMai: yes, I have. However, I’m understanding it can take 2 to 4 weeks to update on the offset line.
@Momof2girls1boy77: Have you called the offset line? If you have an offset that was paid it will tell you on there and the date it was paid.
@mc559672: Yes I will let you know asap once I see it in informed delivery
@mc559672: Yes it’s always something lol.Im watching for informed as well.I usually knows what’s coming by 7am.Good luck to you….
Not sure if anyone can answer this but I owe an offset to pay past due state taxes. I have not fully processed yet as far as my transcripts go. However when I check the website for my state taxes that are owed it shows a payment from PNC bank. I did not make a payment and I do not use PNC bank. Could this possibly mean I have processed and my offset was paid but I just haven’t updated yet. I wasn’t sure if the treasury would pay the offset through PNC bank. Any insight is appreciated
@Sheila_33
I just want to thank you. This is my second year here, and you are always so helpful! I wish nothing but great things for you.
@WaitingPatiently: i only see that it mentions a bank like Cross River but doesn’t say either way whether mine is being sent there or to SBTGP. At least not that i see on the forms anywhere
