For all the people impatiently waiting on tax refunds.

A grapevine for taxpayers, by taxpayers.

Ask all of your tax refund questions.

The most frequently asked question we have is when will the IRS WMR update and what day are tax refund deposits. Use our calendar to find out what day you can expect to receive your tax refund.

🔥 Updates: Advance Child Tax Credit Tools to Update and Unenroll

When does IRS accept tax returns in 2021?

The IRS will begin accepting tax returns on February 12, 2021.

When Can You File Taxes in 2021?

Most tax preparers will allow you to enter and submit your tax return beginning the first week of January 2021.  You don’t need to wait for the IRS to start accepting tax returns to start, but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January and some even later.  When you submit your return before the IRS begins processing, it will sit in a “queue” and be held until the date that the IRS will officially accept tax returns.  If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early in a test batch. This has resulted in early direct deposits in the past, but also major glitches because they are tests after all.

Where is the IRS Refund Cycle Chart?

2021 Refund Cycle Chart
The most recent tax refund cycle charts have already been published. The official IRS tax refund cycle chart has been eliminated and replaced with an IRS Information Guidelines for the Tax Preparation Community publication and the IRS says the best way to check the status of your refund is using the Where’s My Refund tool. However, various websites with refund calendars for the 2021 tax season (2020 tax year) have been updated with 2021 direct deposit and check mailing dates.

When to Expect My Refund?

IRS Refund Schedule Charts typically show that early filers whose returns are accepted before the end of January can anticipate a tax refund direct deposit as early as the first week of February.  The day that IRS deposits refunds varies but we notice trends that help you determine the time and days WMR updates and when your tax return is processed.  This is an explanation and FAQ about when the IRS updates WMR and Transcripts.

The refund calendar by the College Investor is a good reference which has been updated for 2021 here:  When To Expect My Tax Refund.

The ID verify tool literal tells me that it can’t help me… So that mean I’m good there right? I got married and bought a house in 2020, waiting for 14 weeks now for “still processing”

@suray771: Standard reps can look into a return and think it is just waiting to be processed but unless they dig deeper, they may not know it’s an id verify because the transcript won’t fill in for either. You might go to the id verify site and see if you might need to verify since several so far are finding out that they needed to, even after a rep told them there was no issues. If you don’t need to verify, then at least you know for sure. You do have the right to request a tax advocate since you’ve been stuck in the system so long.

    HELP!!

At which point does anyone recommend calling the tax advocate line?

    Filed & Accepted on 3/12
WMR Bars Disappeared and “your return is still being processed” roughly on 3/22 with no tax topics.

Called IRS 05/27 and spoke with a live person who said I was not in errors, no ID verify, and nothing that they could see that is holding up and I should continue to wait.

2020 Transcript shows as of date of 06/14/21. Checked WMR this morning and still same and no other update.

Hello everyone I used to be a regular on this site but this year I caught lucky and filed and received my refund within 3 weeks🙌🏾! Now the reason I’m here is because I’m confused on the unemployment refund, although I was bummed about my refund amount I was just grateful I was still entitled to one, it was then about 2 months ago I received a call from a turbo tax agent(real person) telling me that I may need to file an amended return because i
was due for another portion that of my refund. I just wanted to know when should I expect it and how would I go about checking it. Btw I filed HOH with one dependent.

Received my 846 for DDD of 6-16 yesterday morning around 8:30 after no updates at 6:28am on transcripts. WMR didn’t have an update yesterday, but has one as of 7:30am today with a DDD by June 21st which is also my “As of Date” on transcripts if this helps anyone. Before 2 weeks ago my “As of Date” was 5-10 for 2 months. Filed and accepted 2-26. I’ll keep everyone posted of when I receive my refund. Filed with H and R block, but their website made me pay in advance probably because they already knew about the delays. So, it should be deposited into my own bank account since their Emerald Green Card was not an option. Good luck.

@Sdiego: I kind of had my suspicions about the verify holding some in limbo. Standard rep can’t see an ID verify from looking at the transcript. It would just look like a return waiting to be processed. They have to go deeper into the system to see it. Good luck. Hope you see something within the next two weeks or so.

A week ago U had to send in my w2’s. Wages updated only. Now I just tried and it let me id verify online again. All while having an advocate. At this point I’m thinking of having a dna test done because at the rate they are going they will be asking me for that. My advocate is supposed to call on Thursday. My as of date changed to 6/28 today like you. This is utterly ridiculous. I’ll keep you updated

Told him I have been waiting since 02/13… He took my info put me on a 5-7 min and told me that my taxes are still under review and apparently they sent another notice out on April 28th( I DID NOT GET AN APRIL28TH LETTER) the only letter I got was the letter about my stim. 3. I checked all the dates on my notices because there system was spitting out the same letter 4X TO BE EXACT that I am under review nothing I need to do blah blah blah…. Well long story short my wait time is about 120 days which I already new just needed confirmation…. My wait continues…. This is a shitty tax season but im taking next year with a vengeance MY ENDGAME WAITING UNTIL THE LAST MIN POSSIBLE

I will try calling to see if I can get a straight answer about the ACA they did not include in my return and instead offset it. There is also the issue of missing stimulus for dependent and 2 years worth of amendments that are not coming up on WMAR and nothing is showing on transcripts yet.

Let’s see if I am able to get a person that can respond.

Tax Advocate won’t call me back until 7/1/2021 .

No ACA adjustment back to my account. Refund scheduled for next week. As Of 6/28 I guess they have until that date to complete the credit back of the ACA Premium they took out and should not have due to the 2021 Recovery Act. This only moved thanks to my Tax Advocate & Congressman, otherwise I am sure I would still be in limbo past the 17 weeks.

After waiting over 16wks for my 1st refund which is not complete I have a DDD of 6/16.

They still have to adjust my account and refund the ACA Penalty.

Also pending and in limbo 1040X for correction of filing status for 2019 and 2020. Per advocate 2019 has been received and is in the process of being posted today. No WMAR or DDD for that. As for 2020 they have to finish fixing my 2020 return before adding any amendment changes.

@Going cuckoo: Don’t feel stupid at all for complaining! This is all ridiculous and they have no excuse for dragging their feet.
