When can you file your taxes?
You can submit your tax return before the IRS begins processing as early as the first week of the year with many tax preparation providers. You don’t need to wait until the IRS begins accepting tax returns but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January. Tax returns filed before the IRS officially opens sit in a “queue” and are held until the IRS officially begins accepting tax returns.
Your tax return may be selected in a test batch. If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early. This can result in early direct deposits depending on the payment provider you select. Our cycle chart will update with key dates including test batch dates.
When does the IRS accept tax returns?
The IRS usually opens around the third week of January each year. They announce the opening date early in January.
The IRS will begin accepting tax returns in 2025 on January 27th.
When is the IRS test batch?
If you file your tax return early, it may be sent to the IRS in a test batch before the IRS has officially opened for the year. It is usually a week before the date the IRS begins accepting tax returns. This has resulted in refunds in the past that can be posted by direct deposit as early as the day after tax season opens.
When will I get my tax refund?
Early filers whose returns are accepted in a test batch can anticipate a tax refund as early as the day after the IRS opens the January filing season if your return was in the test batch. The day that the IRS deposits refunds varies for regular returns but we notice trends based on the method you chose to file and select to direct deposit. Where is the IRS refund cycle chart?

@Horsecharlie09: I am, I am just a nervous wreck that it’s gotten lost and they really screwed up. After rereading the contract if I have a “lost payment” they have months after I bring it to their attention to investigate it. They really are shady. That fine print and clauses are something else.
@Mom@3: OHHHH ok now I understand what your saying. Yes something is messed up. Why don’t you file a BBB complaint? I would do it now. Get ahead of that stuff. Bc even if you do remember receiving your money on the day you’re supposed to, the point is they are up to something shady & they can’t be doing ppl like this. Ppl need 2b able 2 trust who they are doing business with. Also, what if u don’t get your u will want to have gotten a head start on it and filing a complaint will get them to look into it 4 sure. Besides they need 2 b looked into regardless. I’m going to do it bc I want an explanation as 2 why they are holding my $
@Horsecharlie09: Yes and when I called the IRS that’s what they told me the routing account was Cross River. TT customer service insist the IRS and SBTPG are lying because TT says SBTPG has it. I don’t know or care where it is honestly they better just get it to me by 2/24. My fees on the TT website showed paid yesterday now it’s saying they don’t exist so they screwed something up and are trying to cover their tracks.
I hadn’t checked SBPGT since 11pm , checked just now and they received my money too. Says fees paid and all. So NOW I plan on calling. Gonna make a BBB complaint. They will end up with a class action lawsuit. Wait and see. Everyone who has their fees paid who has a DDD date of 2/26 who paid up front, got their deposits. But if you had the fees taken from your refund they are not depositing the money to you. Even though they have received the money and took their fees which is the same thing as fees being paid up front because the point is that they have received their money. So yeah I’ll be calling for my first time later today
@Chelyn: HA! See?! They know what they are doing. That’s why I say people need to keep calling because they thought that they would be slick by putting up that post saying that people will not get their refunds until the date that IRS has listed but then think that people are just going to ignore the fact that they are holding on to their money even though the fees have been paid. All the while all these other banks are releasing people’s money the day the money is received. They put this pop up on the bank website because people were calling but now people still need to call and ask him why they are holding on to their money when they can see fees were paid. Maybe it’ll get them to release if enough complain
@Mom@3: hmmmm…. I think I read somewhere that the people that applied for the 5 days early automatically go to Cross River bank. But I don’t know if that’s if you get approved for the 5 days and if you end up getting it 5 days early only or if it’s still goes through Cross River even if you don’t end up getting it 5 days early. I would assume that you would still get it through Cross River. For me, I can see my advance amount that I got but that’s it and otherwise it shows unfunded. I find it odd that so many people were not able to get the 5 days early
@Mom@3: was it the other bank? They have 2 banks they are dealing with this year. I forget what the other 1 is called. Begins with a C I believe. It’s either one or the other. I think it’s something like cross river or something like that lol. You can ask here and ppl will tell u
@Horsecharlie09: it’s also crazy because on sbtpg main page under “As fast as e-filing” it says Tax refund is available the same day the IRS issues the automated payment
@Horsecharlie09: I applied for the 5 day early and SBTPG has no information on my return. I had my fees taken from my return. I even called them yesterday and they said no they have no record of it. I have Credit Karma bank. I am trying to figure out if this is just me they screwed up or others. I mentioned in a couple post the IRS told me my refund was going to Cross River bank even though I didn’t get my refund 5 days early.
@Vontane: funny it’s saying ” amount paid 2u ” but TT/SBPGT is not paying out early 4 alot of ppl. They are saying that they have paid but also have a pop up on the screen stating that people will not get their money until the date listed on the IRS website. They are trying 2cover their rear ends but not doing a good job. Notice how ppl who paid up front are getting their refunds before the date the IRS has listed 4 them? But people who did not pay their fees up front are being told that they will not receive it until the date IRS has listed. Makes ZERO sense. in both cases when bank has been paid their fees$, then our $should not be held on to. I sense a class action lawsuit that’ll pop up sometime down the road AGAIN!
@Mom@3: my DDD is 2/26. I got the advance . Fees are being paid through refund. Got my 846 early Friday morning. I am a pather. All day today SBPGT has not showed anything other than the advance amount. Said ” unfunded ” . Last time I checked was probably closer to 11pm est, now it’s 2:20am est. No I did not opt in for 5 days early bc I chose to apply 4 the advance instead when I did my taxes through TT this year
I see ppl saying they are being funded but they aren’t saying if they did the 5 day early & if they paid upfront or if fees are being taken from refund. Including this information when updating one another really helps : )

@hello: usually. Mine hasn’t shown up either. Was sent around 6:00 pm Republic bank. I have an NHB. Usually once sent it comes same day. Like 3 hours later. Something is definitely up.

If you have the Trace # on sbtpg it’s definitely on the way y’all!!! I just checked mines and I see the Trace # so Chime should be releasing soon
My sbt account said funded from Wednesday I now see a trace number does that mean my money was sent?
My deposit hit my Wellsfargo account around 8:30pm PST. I had fees taken out and was supposed to have 5 days early but said they couldn’t expedite it so they refunded the $25. I filed with TurboTax. My DDD was 2/26, cycle code 20250505
@California girl83: it’s bc they are holding ppls & until the date that the IRS shows your deposit date it’s. Even though every single other place is not doing that. So, they are collecting their fees, and keeping the money sitting in their own account making money off of everybody else’s money that is sitting there which has to be millions upon millions of dollars. Funny bc if it would have been deposited anywhere else including through the IRS, they would have already put it on your account

@Horsecharlie09: Exactly like make it make sense what are you holding on to it for when you already took the charges from out of it so now you can give me my portion of it there’s no need to hold on to it right that’s how it’s accumulating so many interests and all this other BS they know what they’re doing! I just know next year I really don’t want to have to deal with Turbotax or Santa Barbara I want to just pay my fees up front and just know that when my 846 hits my tax return that it will be going straight to my bank and no one else is
Federal Accepted 1/17. As of date has been Feb 10th 2025. since 1/31.
Transcripts are all blank. No notifications about Verification exist. I have an IP pin. I checked the IRS idVerify and it says:
“We are not able to provide assistance to you via the identity verification tool.
If you’ve already filed, processing usually takes 21 days (electronic returns) or six weeks (paper returns).”
Any Thoughts???
@Nobodyputsbabyinthecorner: and see thats not ok. That means they have your money, collected their fees but holding on to the money. Nobody else is doing that. I get that it says deposit date of February 26th, but if the money is received beforehand, and they have in fact taken their fees from the refund then why are they holding on to your refund? They are collecting so much money from doing those people
Hey guys so just an update I just checked SBTPG Where my deposit is showing funded but the posted date by is still February 26! So at least it’s showing posted on their end just waiting for them to release it

@Jay Jay not logged in: Cross River bank is who they used for the 5 day early. It states in the contract that bank name on my taxes and I called the IRS they told the routing number from TT of where my refund was going is Cross River. That’s directly from the IRS

@Jiji: No you can’t contact the bank TT used for the 5 day thing. It’s Cross River Bank. They just transfer you to TT when you call. They have had my refund since Wednesday and I still so not have it. My DD is 2/24.
@DreamLooks: I don’t have my trace number yet. I updated to funded at 9:15pm. Maybe later in the morning/day.

Also just realized tt isn’t any better than sbtpg. I wouldn’t be doing with sbtpg if it wasn’t for tt making me upgrade to deluxe and having to pay $123 therefor my funds having to go to sbtpg. I really hope they deal with a lot of pissed off people enough that they finally release people’s money to them. I’d love to know how they’re getting away with it.
