MAJOR Update!!!
Got my refund!!
Just to refresh memory in case someone should find themselves in my position
Filed 1/18 w/HRB (fees taken out of refund)
Claimed EIC, business expenses, and school
Accepted 1/19
PATH Act msg up until 2/15
Processing msg until late 2/17
Called IRS morning of 2/17 to get 2/23 DDD
Scheduled DD of 2/23 (2 Bars) late 2/17Refund deposited onto PayPal prepaid MC less than one day early…but STILL early, nonetheless. H&R Block’s bank that does the refund transfer does not have a website to track when fees are taken out of refund nor do they really accept calls on the matter. Ordered a Netspend card to use next year and only for refund process since they charge unnecessary fees. Feel free to ask me any questions.
Good luck, everyone. Keep the faith. I know how hard it is to do so, though.

I’ve learned a couple of important things this year but the most important being the following:
1. PayPal prepaid MC sucks when it comes to early refund DD and
2. Get a Netspend card so that I am prepared for next year.Item #2 is already done. My nerves are so irked right about now.
Filed HRB w/fees taken out on 1/18
Accepted 1/19
Path act msg until 2/15
Processing msg until 2/17
Called IRS to check DD scheduled date 2/17 and it was given
Two bars to date with a scheduled DD of 2/23 updated evening of 2/17Chat session with HRB yesterday revealed they have not received fees but I am wondering if I should call BofI today. I am just really not in the mood to be strung along. I work my behind off for the Government, pay my taxes, child care, go to school for my Masters…but I can’t get my refund in a timely manner. Yet, those taxes are taken out of my check bi-weekly like clock work. Companies can lay claim to $$ in dang near nano seconds but let me try to get a refund, reimbursement, etc. of any kind. Takes 3-5 days even though it’s due to me. And then you have tax refund time… *major eye rollage*
All I want to do is pay some bills. That’s it. That’s all.
February 21, 2017 at 9:56 pm in reply to: DD Scheduled By 2/23/17–H&R Block–PayPal Prepaid MC #4182651That gives me hope since it goes along with my theory or one day early DD. If the same applies for me, I’ll have my refund sometimes around 9pm tonight (PST). *fingers crissed*
Thanks for the update!
February 21, 2017 at 4:08 pm in reply to: Ddd 2/23/17 Please let us know if you receive your funds earlier and with what i #4182136It’s not just sbptg. Some prepaid cards do not offer early DD. Some prepaid cards are slower or later to the game. For example, my paycheck from the fed Gov is DD’d 28-36 hours in advance.
Also, for anyone who had H&R Block take out fees…I just had a chat with them. They are not showing my fees paid by the IRS as of yet. My DD is scheduled to go out on 2/23 to my PayPal prepaid card which does advertise early DD by 2 days.
I think my next step is to call Bofl which is supposed to be the bank set to receive fees from my refund.
February 21, 2017 at 12:54 pm in reply to: DD Scheduled By 2/23/17–H&R Block–PayPal Prepaid MC #4181728I’ll post as soon as I receive my refund.

Since I work for the federal gov and receive that and other DDs early, I was hoping my federal return would be no different. This is my first year receiving my refund on this card and I now wish I had a Netspend because those with a Netspend card and 2/23!DD Scheduled date have received their funds.
*shrug* Oh well. It still may come early but I’m not depending on it. At least I know my paycheck is a guaranteed DD Wednesday night. thanks for the reply.
@wait WHAT
Pre-paid debit card companies appeal to customers by advertising that they can release funds of direct deposits up to two days earlier than a standard financial institution where you may have a checking or savings account. I have had more than one pre-paid card in my 30 years from different companies and the 2 day-early DD thing is true although receipt of the funds was never actually 48 hours in advance. More like 36 hours or 24 hours in advance.
I’m just not sure what the “why” or “how” is behind it all.
Sorry to anyone I may have mislead with regards to my post about direct deposit limits. If what others are saying is correct, the IRS should update or correct this artice: https://www.irs.gov/individuals/direct-deposit-limits.
The article that comes DIRECTLY from the IRS site does not mention that that limit is based on receiving multiple DDs in one year. Which is why it is misleading. But, again, my bad.
Thanks!!! Turns out H&R Block uses BofI Federal Bank but it looks like they don’t have the “check your RT” site like Republic Bank. That sucks!
@Screwed by the IRS year after year
First and foremost, AWESOME name. I got a good smirk out of that. Very unique. Lol. And you’re welcome. Someone else mentioned it and then I went to the IRS site looking for proof and found it. Smh. Just another way to screw people who need the money the most. I am totally against tax fraud but there has to be a better way to prevent it and NOT make like harder on those who are walking the straight and narrow. Like many others have said, I have claimed the same two kids for the last 6 years. I have the birth certificates to prove it.
This whole “we won’t deposit refunds into the same account more than 3 times” is just ridiculous and something that people will easily forget in a year’s time. Frankly, I just realized that even changing your pre-paid debit card won’t help unless you get a one through a new bank (different company). Using the same company but new card number doesn’t affect the routing or account number they give your for direct deposit purposes. I remember i had some erroneous charges on my card once. I opted for a new card. It had a new 16-digit number on the front but the routing and checking account information for DD remained the same.
My nerves are so irked right now even though I have a DDD. It’s so annoying to be hindered year after year by the IRS. And even for those who say they will change their withholdings…that may not help. I have been operating on 0 withholding for years and I still receive a refund. I have two kids, am a student, and also have business expenses.
Has anyone been able to check the status of the refund transfer (RT) from the IRS through Republic Bank. Each time I try it states that the information I entered is not correct. Does that just mean the RB has yet to receive my refund from the IRS to take the fees out? Is RB the only bank used for the RT process by the IRS?
Again, if you have been successful or unsuccessful in checking the status of your RT please let me know.
Background: Refund transfer (RT) is used by the IRS to take the fees you opted to pay for tax services directly out of your refund and then transfer to the company (i.e. Turbo Tax, H&R Block, etc.). The complete refund is transferred to RB (not sure if this is the only bank used) where RB takes out the funds and transfers a portion to the tax software site and the remaining portion to the taxpayer.
@Sascee209 is correct. I just looked it up. The IRS is limited the number of times your can receive direct deposit into an financial account of pre-paid debit card to three. The 4th time you use the same financial account of debit card they will automatically convert the DD to a paper check. They claim this doesn’t affect most people. Guess who is does affect? It affects the same people the PATH Act affects.
So be prepared to keep track of the number of refunds you receive per account/debit card. It’s not that hard to just order a new card (same brand), get an extra checking or savings account, or switch to a new pre-paid debit card altogether. There are so many that provide your direct deposit up to two days early that you won’t be missing out.
Btw, this isn’t a law, it’s just an new IRS procedure. Smh.
Someone just mentioned that the WMR app was down. It was for a few minutes and now it’s back up. It verifies what I was told today when I called the IRS.
2 Bars:
Return received
Refund approved
DDD of 2/23/17For those who received a 2/23 or earlier date but have seen no action on WMR, you may have been updated in this batch that just went through a few minutes ago. Check it out and be a little less stressed. Good luck!
Addition: I was only able to claim the ACTC this year. However, I don’t think claiming one, the other, or both means you will receive your refund later than someone else who claimed differently. As long as you claimed one of these credits you had to wait.
Update:

Message: We have received your tax return and it is being processed.I filed my tax return early as usual and through H&R Block this year. I tend to switch it up because sometimes TT tries to force you into paying extra fees for products or services you don’t want even after you select “no, thanks”. I knew beforehand about the PATH Act as some who used to work for the IRS and someone who just stays abreast of tax information. I received the PATH Act notice from H&R Block and the IRS via WMR. I never saw any bars. As a matter of fact, I checked WMR once right after filing and did not check again until late last week. What was the point when I knew I would be waiting until or after the 15th?
I checked again on the 15th and got the message that my return was accepted/received and being processed. The PATH Act states that returns will be processed regardless of credits claimed but complete REFUND will be held. I checked again yesterday…same message. Again, this morning and still the same processing message. Well, I had HAD enough of that stupid message. Especially because year after year people talk in this forum about never seeing an update to te WMR but receiving their refund. IRS needs to get their ISHT together and at least have tools and systems that work appropriately. But, I digress.
Since I had HAD enough, I called in to the IRS. It’s been 21 days since filing so they have to help you regardless of if they want to or not. The wait is not long right now. About 30 minutes or less. I got Ms Moody (no pun intended) on the phone and she was very polite and nice. Her voice was pleasant as well. That says a lot if you have called into the IRS hotline before. Ms. Moody was able to look up my account and tell me that I have a DDD of 2/23/17. So, I should get my refund on or slightly after that date. She also said that if i don’t get the refund within 5 days of that date to call back.
I hope this helps. Feel free to ask me any questions.

Message: “We have received your tax return and it is being processed.”February 16, 2017 at 6:23 pm in reply to: Just Talked To IRS (and according to them, most early filers..) #4174197Some of you guys are receiving and relaying false information. The facts are that your refund was HELD due to claiming one or both the EITC or ACTC as required by the PATH Act. If you read up on the law, your tax return was processed as it normally should be but your REFUND was held until the 15th. Once the 15th came and went the IRS started informing some of the release. The question is whether or not they are doing that in order of receipt or just willy-nilly. However, the PATH Act NEVER affected whether or not your return was processed but WHEN you would receive your REFUND.
What’s most annoying about all of this is that I ALWAYS file my tax return early, if not before the IRS officially opens for the tax season. As a civil servant we tend to receive our W-2s electronically and early. So, I filed on 1/18/17 and it was accepted on the 19th. I only checked Where’s my refund once because I was are of the PATH Act and how it would affect my refund. I did not start checking WMR until about a week ago. I had the standard PATH Act message that most who claimed the EITC or ACTC. Yesterday morning, my message changed to say that the IRS has my return and it’s being processed. Does the old trick of checking the schedule/cycle work for cases like those of us who’s refund has been held for weeks at a time? Who actually has a “processed” and/or “approved” message that shows bar action and/or a DD date?
