When I had an offset (that I had to do an offset bypass refund – but that’s a whole other can of worms :) it was coded as 826 on my transcripts. Any offset amount will show on your transcripts and generally will not have a – (minus) sign before the amount.

Hope that helps and good luck!

It would show, You would have a code on the WMR website, and typically the amount shown on WMR will show the amount AFTER any offset has been taken. So you should (hopefully) be getting the full amount. Do you have access to your transcripts as that would tell you more?

I did and didn’t know it until today. I’m now freaking out because I already received all 3 stimulus payments correctly. It was deposited on my direct express card on April 7th.

From reading others, once you move from code 900 to 100 (again, you won’t ever see those codes on your transcripts from what I understand, either a tax advocate or an IRS rep will tell you these codes), your refund should be deposited in a week or two. Hope that’s what happens.

Same. Filed and accepted 2/18. Lost WMR bars around 3/1. My 2020 return transcripts are N/A and my 2020 account transcript says no return filed.

Called the IRS last week and was told my return was in errors, but the rep of course said they didn’t see any errors. Got the 10 week wait speech.

I haven’t. I’m still being told I’m in error resolution. 8-10 weeks. That was on Friday (4/2/21). I filed and was accepted 2/18.

Even though I started the topic, I also don’t have codes 900 or 100. You won’t ever see those codes on your transcripts, I’m told. Either an IRS rep or tax advocate will let you know. My transcripts also still have N/A. I also haven’t received any letters from the IRS.

No, code 100 (or 900) means you’re waiting to be processed on the error (ERS) server. Last I checked over 7 million returns were sent to ERS by mistake (meaning there is no accrual error on these returns)

The server can only process a certain amount of returns at a time. If the server is full, the returns are put in overflow status. They are then coded 900, then 100.

So it’s not a bad code, like an audit or anything, it just means your refund is delayed until the system catches up.

While your stuck waiting to go through the error department, your return transcripts will have N/A and your account transcripts will say something like return not filed. You will lose your bar and probably change to the “still processing” message.

This is because while it’s waiting in the overflow, your return isn’t on the master file. It’s stuck literally waiting for room on the ERS server to process.

It’s frustrating because we have no choice but to wait.

If I remember right, the phone number you give them has to be in your name, meaning the bill has to be in your name.

The error code 900 means you’re in errors (probably by mistake) and you’re waiting in the overflow files to be processed thru the ERS system. Code 100 might come up or you’ll just pass through onto regular processing after going thru ERS. good luck

I did believe that after 45 days, they have to pay interest on your refund amount if you don’t receive any letter or reason for the delay.

I didn’t file for unemployment, so unfortunately that wouldn’t apply to me. Let’s hope for something tonight. I’m weekly and have waited as late as Monday for my transcript to update, but that’s been rare. If not, more than likely stuck in refund purgatory until next weekend. Good luck!!

Anyone receive updates today? No for me. WMR has still processing, tt 152 and amount showing (those never left, just the bar and message changed from processing to still processing weeks ago). NA for return transcripts.

Clarification: I said I believe the system flagged the *returns as being being posted for an incorrect year…”
I meant to say the system flagged the *stimulus payments/credits. It’s probably the filing of the returns that set the ball in motion because the stimulus payments were coded wrong last year, so when the returns were filed, the system “saw” a discrepancy and sent them to ERS. Since ERS isn’t programmed to handle that many returns, we have no refunds

Research a student loan tax offset hardship refund.

The link below is a good starting place

And yes, they can take your refund even if you claim you had no notice.

If the loan was consolidated either with a Direct Loan or a rehabilitation loan, and your making payments on time, the IRS can’t take your refund. They could if you default on the payment plan.

I would continue to check the offset hotline and to be really sure you could always call the IRS directly. It’s not fun, but they would tell you for sure if they could take the refund.

You can find more information at the link provided, but I copied and pasted some info for reference.

                                            https://www.irs.gov/faqs/irs-procedures/refund-inquiries

Can I receive a tax refund if I am currently making payments under an installment agreement or payment plan for another federal tax period?

                                            Answer:

No, one of the conditions of your installment agreement is that the IRS will automatically apply any refund due to you against taxes you owe. Because your refund isn’t applied toward your regular monthly payment, continue making your installment agreement payments as scheduled.

You will need to make sure everything gets approved either through the tax advocate or the IRS directly (I recommend the tax advocate if possible) by the Thursday BEFORE the 23C date, so in your case, this Thursday, February 14. Be prepared for them to ask for additional things this week, and try to send whatever they ask for as quickly as you can.

Also, try to do as much research on the IRS procedures. I was very surprised at how little the IRS reps knew about how to process the OBR.

Once it’s approved, there’s no way to know until Monday, the 18th if the offset bypass refund went through successfully. If you have access to your online transcripts, this might update over the weekend (1 year mine did and the other year it didn’t update until Monday) Makes for a long weekend, but if it was processed correctly, the good news is you’ll get your deposit by Wednesday, the 20th. (So long as your original return had direct deposit checked…If the return had a check being mailed, I was told that couldn’t be changed, but I don’t know if that’s accurate)

Good luck, and if you have any other questions, let me know and I will do my best to help.

                                                @Mesha

If your offset is for Federal taxes (money owed directly to the IRS) it usually doesn’t show when you call the IRS offset hotline number.

Yes, your refund can still be offset after your return is accepted. WMR typically will report some or all of your refund will be offset when it changes from accepted to approved.

If you know you have an offset, the best thing to do would be to call the IRS Monday morning and find out if your refund will be offset.
