I am going to rant here. 5071C a lot received that notice. Most have gone over the 9 week and still no update. I seen articals about Millions of returns have issued. Nothing on us who received the 5071C. So I am going to the media not to my Congress member or Senate they did nothing. When I did my ID verification I said welcome back to work she the IRS lady said. I WAS NOT OFF WE’VE BEEN WORKING!!!!!! Oh here is the messed up part I got the stimlus check was direct deposit in my checking acct.

Ladyk239, usually the timeframe from IDV to DD is three weeks or less. No, it doesn’t really take nine weeks, in most cases, but that’s what they’re required to tell you (as the 5071C letter also says).

I finally was able to verify my identity over the phone (5071C). I filed February 10th accepted the 15th and got the letter around March 30th and was finally able to Verify today 💪🙏🙏 sending errybody positive vibes

Filed on 3/4 got 5071c on 3/24 because of virus was able to I’d verfiy 4/29. The lady told me it could take me up to 12 weeks because of short staff and virus. It sucks we have to wait even with DD.

@Nate2019 I called Yesterday 4/28 at 7:00am I was on hold for a hour. Eventually someone answered and I was able to verify. They just started answering phone calls yesterday. Keep trying they are there.

I called the number on my 5071C form today and was able to speak to live person. I did the verification and I passed. They just opened up for calls today. The wait time to speak someone is around a hour.

Nate 2019, maybe you can submit the form to change your address so that the PIN will come to your current address? I know it’s a wait, but I don’t know what else to suggest. By the time the change registers, though, they might open back up and you’ll be able to IDV by phone.
I wonder if they’ll even let you get a taxpayer advocate without proving your identity first.
So you haven’t filed at all at your current address? Putting your phone in your name is no guarantee of acceptance for the online account. My phone is in my name, but it’s a U.S. Mobile prepaid plan, so the IRS “couldn’t” verify it. Whatever!

So the same address that I received my 5071c letter should be the same address where I get the activation code right? My 2019 tax return says still processing and if they use the last address I filed it would be from 2014. Surely they wouldn’t send the 5071c letter and the activation code to different addresses right?No. The opposite is true. My 5071C came to my current address, which I filed my 2019 return under. My CP301 notice with the online services PIN went to my former address from my 2015 return. (I have relatives living there; I had them send it to me.) I had to use my former address to complete the online account.

Nate 2019, they send the code to the same address you used to start your IRS account. If they haven’t started processing your 2019 return, b/c of needing IDV, then they’ll use the address from your prior return (and that’s the same address, then, that you needed to create your account). For the mailing of the code b/c they “can’t validate” your phone, they say it takes 5-10 days. I don’t think it can get forwarded, though. You can use a change-of-address form for the IRS, though. That takes some time to go into effect, as well.
The IRS will rarely be rushed; our urgency is not theirs. If at all possible, it’s better not to make plans around funds via IRS.

ID’ verified 3/9, went from still being processed, to your return is being processed. Two days later. Received my stimulus check yesterday the full amount $1700.
So with that said where in the hell is my Fed return??? The IRS is essential as they come WTF, I don’t even know who to contact!!!

@Penguin8, did your roommate verify online? I would be surprised if the IRS would send a refund w/o IDV when they suspect the potential for fraud. Did you both get the same letter, a 5071C? If your roommate received the other letter (4883C), then the IRS may have decided to process the return with the info given, after the 30-day response window closed.

The terms “weekly” and “daily” are misunderstood distinctions, as it applies to IRS processing.
Actually EVERYONE is weekly. The IRS cycle code is 4-digit year, 2-digit week (of the years), 2-digit day. Returns are processed on Friday (01), Monday (02), Tuesday (03, Wednesday (04), or Thursday (05). Your cycle code tells you exactly when the IRS begins processing your return.
Where the distinction comes in is when looking at WMR. If you can access your transcript to ascertain your cycle code, then you can determine when WMR will update. It updates the 2nd day after processing. If your cycle code ends with “05,” then WMR will update on Saturday. If “01,” Sunday; “02,” Wednesday; “03,” Thursday; “04,” Friday.
But if you don’t know your cycle code, then if you know you’re “weekly” (i.e., your cycle code ends “05”) — because some filers are automatically “weekly,” like those with credits regulated by the PATH Act — you also know there’s no reason to check WMR any day other than Saturday for updates on your DDD. However, if you don’t know for sure that you’re in that grouping, then you could see your WMR update any of the aforementioned days. Since you don’t know which day it will be, it’s worth your while to check WMR every day (except Monday or Tuesday). However, it doesn’t make your processing any faster.

Bars disappeared with message we have recieved ur tax return and it’s still being processed. A refund date will be available
On 3/16 got letter idv
ID verfied on 3/18
On 3/22 message changed from still being processed to being processed.
Today 3/28 woke up to bar ls refund sent
DDD April 1
Payment will in account no later than the 6th

We about to be in April filed and accepted 2/21 IDV 3/16 went from still to being processed ppl days later. I’m not sure if that means much anymore with everything going on
It means it’s back into processing which isn’t very uplifting news but if you don’t get another letter then at least you know it’s just a matter of waiting.

@madmama, thank you, but I have already gotten my DDD; it’s tomorrow. I filed 2/4, IDV 2/27, WMR updated 3/5, & gave me my DDD (of 3/11) on 3/7.
You won’t have to wait the 9 weeks they’ll quote, or even 45 days, once you pass IDV. If you call today, you might get a DDD of 3/18, and almost certainly no later than 3/25. That is, of course, there’s no other reason for a delay in processing.

@madmama, the letter tells you pretty much everything you’ll need to respond to their query, but in sum:
Current return + support (i.e., W2s)
Prior year return + supportYou’ll need to verify income & withholding as per the returns. You’ll also have to provide personal information that only you should know. I don’t know what all questions they ask — it may vary according to each individual’s life circumstances — but they’ll pertain to your SSN, your place of birth, your mother’s maiden name, your father’s full name, children’s names & SSNs, and so on.

Guess what after verifying the 5071c letter i just got another one the 4464c saying under 60 day review isnt that lovely, just put my husband on hospice 2 weeks ago and have 2 kids and have only been able to work 1 day in past week Thank You IRS!

UPDATE: I just got off the phone with the IRS and im verified now, the lady I spoke to was very nice. She said could take up to 6-9 weeks before I get my refund but they tell everyone that so I guess it’s just a waiting game at this point. I’m just hoping that was the ONLY issue with my refund. I’m assuming if there was another issue I would of gotten another letter by now but I haven’t. I’ll continue to update my progress when something changes …

Filed/accepted 1/28. Irs claimed letter was sent 2/20. Received said letter 2/29 dated 2/26. Verified over the phone 3/2 and I’m still waiting for an update smh. Wmr says still processing. A date will be provided when available. Smh I’m tired of waiting.

The 5071C comes when they suspect the filer’s identity may have been compromised. The 4883C requests additional information. I don’t know why you may have gotten both, but I imagine if you call to satisfy the 4883c, it will also resolve the 5071c. Have available the information both letters request.

Ive been waiting almost 3 weeks i did mine by phone on 2/18, filed 1/18 accepted 1/27. Tuesday will be 3 weeks, transcripts are na cant check online only by mail, ssa nothing some people got it a week later i have not

Anyone else id verify and still waiting for ddd? I know they say wait 9 weeks, but Ive noticed no1 actually waits that long. I read somewhere on here it takes about 10-18 days after idv to get a ddd.

@tbimommy, TC 971 is “Miscellaneous Transaction.” It often indicates correspondence.
As for whether you cycle weekly or daily, you have to look at the cycle code on your transcripts. If the last two digits are 01, 02, 03, or 04, you’re daily. If they’re 05, you could be weekly or daily (but probably most likely weekly). It seems everyone who claimed credits regulated by PATH are weekly.

@tbimommy, I’m not really sure, but based on what I’ve been reading in this forum, it appears that the IRS’s system flags things for action on one day but the system doesn’t generate the letter until a future time.
When I can access my account transcripts, I look forward to seeing what the processing unit did when handling my return. I filed 2/4, but the date on my 5071C was 2/24 (and I received it 2/27, so it seems unlikely they sent it any sooner than that). I’m hoping the transaction codes will give me a clue what was going on.
Maybe the system flagged you for IDV on 2/13 and 2/28 was too late to stop the (971) process.

@tbimommy, I see. Well, the right hand of our government doesn’t often know what the left hand of the government is doing! Maybe the letter they sent you was planned before you IDVed. In the vast majority of cases, there’s no nine-week wait. Heck, part of that is three days for you to receive the letter and 30 days for you to respond!
You should get a DDD of 3/18, if not sooner, Shelby.

I verified at my local IRS office with a Agent. Like in person in a cubicle. I went in and had a 4:30 appointment with them and the man who saw me verified me with my I.d car registration and I brought him my lease and last year’s and this year’s return. He verified me. I’ve called and they said I was verified and had to wait 9 weeks -
Shelby (@tbimommy), did you verify online or by phone? If online, did you see anything informing you that you passed? If you didn’t pass, I would have to think that the IRS would, in fact, send another letter.

I should’ve just went into the office or something, because it seems a lot of those ppl that verified same day I did but in an office, are about to get their money soon. This sucks. Erin (@scuffysd11), you filed about a week before me (did you have a freeze for PATH credits?) but apparently got your IDV notice a week after me. I wasn’t happy that it took them 20 days to quiz me about my ID, but it was about two weeks longer for you! That’s a shame! And it seems people who filed after I did got their IDV notices before I did and got DDDs a week before mine (3/11). Apparently the IRS processes from the top of the stack — last in, first out.
If you claim any PATH credits, it’s in your best interest to file AFTER the freeze is lifted for speedier processing!

IDV 2/27.Maybe they query the returns (do the processing) on Wednesdays or before lunch on Thursdays? I’m just guessing. 2/27 was a Thursday, but I didn’t get in the 2/29 update, but I think I read on here that someone IDV on 2/24 (a Monday) and their transcripts updated on 2/28 for a DDD of 3/4.

@ProudFatherOF1, I answered the first part of your question in the “WMR Bars are gone” thread. As for how long it takes to get a DD after IDV, it appears to take 8-16 days. I’m not sure about IDV online, but if you do it by phone they’ll release your return for processing right while you’re on the phone, provider there are no other reasons for a delay.

@Gofigure, the control number for IDV is on your letter. It’s 14 digits with no hyphen. I’m 99% certain it is not related to the number to validate your online account (I’m waiting on my PIN).
