key tax return and refund dates
When can you file your taxes?
You can submit your tax return before the IRS begins processing as early as the first week of the year with many tax preparation providers. You don’t need to wait until the IRS begins accepting tax returns but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January. Tax returns filed before the IRS officially opens sit in a “queue” and are held until the IRS officially begins accepting tax returns.
Your tax return may be selected in a test batch. If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early. This can result in early direct deposits depending on the payment provider you select. Our cycle chart will update with key dates including test batch dates.
When does the IRS accept tax returns?
The IRS usually opens around the third week of January each year. They announce the opening date early in January.
The IRS will begin accepting tax returns in 2025 on January 27th.
When is the IRS test batch?
If you file your tax return early, it may be sent to the IRS in a test batch before the IRS has officially opened for the year. It is usually a week before the date the IRS begins accepting tax returns. This has resulted in refunds in the past that can be posted by direct deposit as early as the day after tax season opens.
When will I get my tax refund?
Early filers whose returns are accepted in a test batch can anticipate a tax refund as early as the day after the IRS opens the January filing season if your return was in the test batch. The day that the IRS deposits refunds varies for regular returns but we notice trends based on the method you chose to file and select to direct deposit. You can use our tax refund calendar or refund cycle chart to help find out when you will get your tax refund.
Where is the IRS refund cycle chart?
The official tax refund cycle chart published by the IRS has been eliminated and replaced with IRS FAQ. Refund cycle charts are now published by independent websites and vary slightly.
A good reference to use is the When To Expect My Refund cycle chart that is published early each year by the College Investor.

@Goodvibes: it’s the same us. Lol
@kathyarzola: next week probably Wed
Got accepted on Jan 18th. So how long is it usually before we start seeing the PATH message?
Hi! Is there anyone who received the advance through credit Karma with no issues? Thank you!
Has anyone that uses a local tax preparer been accepted or is it just big companies . I filed with Rhodes Murphy this year and they use older systems & nothing yet . They use first century and tpg to process advances (same company credit karma uses )
@jemar707: I don’t know if this site is affiliated with the igotmyrefund on FB ifso what I’m about 2 say may be the same 2 ppl but I’ve seen a couple say they were accepted today over there..
I will not be using TURBO TAX & CREDIT KARMA anymore ❌🚫🚯⚠️ they closed my account AFTER I filed and was approved for the advance!! It has been 12 days and they have been saying the same thing that they are working to fix the problem. I’ve file d with them for YEARS!!! And come to find out they closed many of peoples accounts. Intuit TurboTax and Intuit Credit Karma are TERRIBLE
I’ve found one person saying they just got a text saying accepted today… eyes open if they turning on the machines.
That’s 2
@ Patiently waiting in the 954: you could have been accepted yesterday and WMR updated today. Did the tax preparer send you a message? Just curious.
@Walter DOG: Hey! Been waiting to see u back on here for another tax year. Now that your hear I know everything is gonna be alright. How have you been
@Walter DOG: Hey! Been waiting to see u back on here for another tax year. Now that your hear I know everything is gonna be alright. How have you been?
So I reached out to the tax lady and we both agreed that we didn’t want it going to court and that I’ll be paying her fees and paying the loan back directly to the bank
I don’t know that it is considered theft. Certain elements need to be in place to consider the charge of theft depending on state laws.
I’d want a specific amount documented as to how much and who you owe before you pay anything.
Some of these local preparers are shady as hell and not to be trusted
@StephenfromrosewoodNC: there are certain circumstances for there to be a wage attachment. For instance, if they pursued the money in court, and if there is a judgment against you wages can be attached.
I don’t think there is any other way to pursue you for the money other then sending to collections. Collection agencies cannot take your wages.
As far as fees, I’d payback exactly what was loaned. I would read in the documents you signed if there any other fees involved.
@StephenfromrosewoodNC: she is correct. The fee if not paid will go against your credit and so will the bank advance if not repaid. Did you read the contract you signed? She will be forced to pay the fee . I worked with Jackson and we have to take at least a dozen people to small claims court a year. In a few instances we have filled criminal charges for wire fraud or gaining money under false pretence. It is theft what you did. It’s up to her how she wishes to proceed
yes i recieved social security 1099 yesterday
@Harleybell: yes i received my 1099 from social security yesterday
@Sheila_33: happy to see you I’m very happy your doing well and I can never wait to see my friends on here every year ,you got accepted last Tuesday I didn’t know they did test batches that early anyways hope the fam is all doing well
I got a question
So I did my taxes with a tax prepare and got a advance. Immediately after getting the papers signed she started acting sketch
She began asking me to pay the fees upfront after I signed and she submitted
She literally said that when I got my refund the bank will take the fees again and she would send me the money back
I got worried and I decided to get a IP pin
So my return got rejected and I filled on TurboTax and got accepted. She is now threatening me saying she will have my wages levy. I told her I would pay the bank the advance back and that I would see her in court over her fees but she’s saying I stole the advance and her fees from her company.. my thing is I will pay the bank that lend me the money but how would she be able to say it was from her company that I stole from she said she’s responsible for the unfounded advances and on top of that she gets a 100 charge fee for every relevance that was approved so what should I do I mean I got no problem in paying the bank the advance and the advance fee but I’m not about to pay her the bank advance and fee.
How can she have my wages for the advance plus her fees plus the 100 the bank charges her for approving advances
Anyone know what my next move should be. She reside in Connecticut and I live in North Carolina
@Harleybell: You might be able to access those online if you have a SSA account. My husband received his paper 1099 last week.
Has anyone recieved their 1099 from social security yet
@WalterDOG:Hey guy! Doing well, hope you’re doing the same. I was accepted last Tuesday and I figure if I’m due anything, I’ll see it deposited in the same account the refund goes into to. :)
@Walter DOG: I don’t know how they would implement it though. So many people have already filed. The biggest change will affect people with 2 or more children with the new calculation.
It’s bolded in that table.
I’m watching closely for how it unfolds
