For all the people impatiently waiting on tax refunds.

A grapevine for taxpayers, by taxpayers.

Ask all of your tax refund questions.

The most frequently asked question we have is when will the IRS WMR update and what day are tax refund deposits. Use our calendar to find out what day you can expect to receive your tax refund.

IRS Letter 6419 and 6475

🚨 IRS Letter 6419 and Letter 6475 important for some tax returns to reduce errors and delays.
Check the mail for IRS Letter 6419 and IRS Letter 6475 to prepare your Tax Return. (Letter 6475 only applies to the third round of Economic Impact Payments.) The IRS stated information in the letters will help to reduce errors and delays. IRS started sending the letters to people who received the advance child tax credit payments and third Economic Impact Payments. The letter 6419 includes the total amount of advance child tax credit payments taxpayers received in 2021 and the number of qualifying children used to calculate the advance payments. The letter 6475 will help Economic Impact Payment recipients determine if they are entitled to and should claim the recovery rebate credit. The amount is needed to file tax return. Here is the statement from them about IRS Letter 6419 and 6475.

When does IRS accept tax returns in 2022?

The IRS began accepting tax returns on January 24, 2022.

Where is the IRS Refund Cycle Chart?

2022 Refund Cycle Chart
The most recent tax refund cycle charts have already been published. The official IRS tax refund cycle chart has been eliminated and replaced with an IRS Information Guidelines for the Tax Preparation Community publication and the IRS says the best way to check the status of your refund is using the Where’s My Refund tool. However, various websites with refund calendars for the 2022 tax season (2021 tax year) have been updated with 2022 direct deposit and check mailing dates.

When to Expect My Refund?

IRS Refund Schedule Charts typically show that early filers whose returns are accepted before the end of January can anticipate a tax refund direct deposit as early as the first week of February.  The day that IRS deposits refunds varies but we notice trends that help you determine the time and days WMR updates and when your tax return is processed.  This is an explanation and FAQ about when the IRS updates WMR and Transcripts.

The refund calendar by the College Investor is a good reference which has been updated for 2022 here:  When To Expect My Tax Refund.

@Sharon. O: thank you so much! I’ve been really hanging in there. Honestly I had an awesome TA. He always answered when I called and if I left a message he called before end of day or first thing in the morning. That’s rare from what I’ve seen. Wish I could buy him lunch this week. Lol.

@TPerry: thank you! And yes a huge weight is lifted off of me. I have two children and an elderly and disabled parent that I care for. It has been tough and I’ve felt so inadequate. This is indeed a blessing.

Y’all I could cry right now. After months of waiting and going back and forth between my TA and congresswoman i finally got some good news this morning! TA called first thing this morning to tell me that my refund hold has finally been released. He told me he’d call Thursday or Friday and give me the date but I have access to transcripts so I’ll probably know before he calls. I’m so relieved. I’m literally in the middle of an evictions process and this was my last shred of hope.

@TPerry: Yes that’s what the advocate line told me this morning . She said the refund was released from the hold first thing this morning . I was calling to get transferred to the intake department, because I haven’t heard from my advocate at all. She put me on hold and looked at my account before transferring me and told me it was released today in their system , she said it can take up to two weeks to show on my transcript, I just wanted to see if it could possibly show sometime this week . My cycle code is 20211003

@TPerry: There reasoning now is what if I owe for my 2021 they need to take it from my 2020 before it’s released. Mind you they had my 2020 for 8 months before they received my 2021 amended. They were quick to move on this though. So if I understand correctly they both will now be released at the same time

When I spoke to the lady at the IRS this week all she could tell me is My return still hadn’t processed and there was nothing she needed from me in order for it to process she said they are just very behind and overwhelmed and understaffed and that to not even bother calling back for 16 weeks which brings us to October. Completely unacceptable if that’s actually how long it takes.

@Lost in processing: Have you considered talking to an advocate? As complicated as your situation sounds, you may want to. I would suggest contacting a local advocate office in your state, and see if they can at least tell you what the review is for and if there is a way for you to resolve it.

Could this mean I’m finally going to get an update or something else does anyone have this happen to them?

    I need some advice, PLEASE!

I filed my taxes around February 8th. Two weeks later got and additional w-2, which, I know I can amend next year so I wasn’t too concerned.

March 21 I got a notice that my return was under review and in 60 days would get a response. I’ve not received ANY other notices. I try to call and can’t get through because the call volume is so high. Where’s my refund still shows, still processing with tax topic 152.

My last name is again my maiden name. I tried to update with SS, but they kept sending it back saying my stamped papers weren’t included. They were. Anyhow, not sure that matters since I had w-2’s with both names and have had my current name previously.

How do I reach someone and what can I do? I’m still so behind on everything and with prices soaring, I cannot get caught up.

@Jazz88: If id verify is what is holding you, and the as of date is pushing out on the 2021 account transcript, then hopefully that movement means you’re back in the system. If your messaging on the Wmr is similar to what user @ridiculoustaxseason has stated, then watch to see if that Wmr changes to a tax end date of Dec.31, 2021 in the sidebar with the amount gone. That seems to be the pattern for those stuck with the “still being processed” messaging and after that end date shows up, the next update on the transcript is the 846.

@Sheila_33: there’s a video on YT which I cannot leave the link to because the site will not let me it shows one of the processing centers in Texas it shows one room and there are several rooms like this with tax returns just piled up. There are two other tax processing centers in America just like this after seeing this it makes sense why processing can take up to 16 weeks. The woman I spoke to said that everything on my account was fine nothing else was needed they are just very behind and processing is just taking a long time because they are understaffed and overwhelmed.

@RidiculousTaxSeason: Unfortunately, the facial recognition option is only good for the ID me. I’ve seen a few that did it but still had to id verify. When that transcript doesn’t update after so many months, it can mean id verify or an unpostable return. If it doesn’t update this Friday, I would consider calling again.

@sheila So I heard today that my advocate has sent over all my information (W2 and employer contact info)to the irs that was needed and my advocate has until July 1st to contact me. How long before i can see an 846 code do yall think??? And how long before the irs makes a decision?

@Stugglinmommy: Fingers crossed you get your refund in the next week or two!! My as of date changed to 7/4/2022 this morning as well but my processing date stayed 4/4/2022 and my cycle date is 20221104. My Wage & Income transcript is still missing 1 W2 so not sure if my as of date will stick but really hoping you get your refund soon, sounds promising!

@Sheila_33: wheres my refund says still being processed with standard tax topic everyone gets and amount of refund on the side. The woman I spoke to at the IRS said if you need to ID verify they will send you a letter because you need the letter numbers in order to ID verify. Plus I already did the id’d me with facial recognition on the irs website at the beginning of March.

@RidiculousTaxSeason: Have you checked to see if possibly you have an id verify issue? Sometimes transcripts won’t even populate for the current year until that is resolved. What is your Wmr saying?

@Strugglingmommy: With that “as of” date pushing out, that’s a good sign that something is moving behind the scenes. The processing date will most likely not change, but that “as of” date is the important one. That date is placed by the system to accomplish an action by and when it pushes ahead and sticks, it’s a positive. If there are no other issues with the return, fingers crossed you see something in the next week or two. Sounds like since you’re a daily with the 03 cycle code, and they possibly got the information entered into the system and you’re just waiting in que to cycle thru and update. Oh, and just in case, scroll down to the bottom of those codes and see if there maybe an 846, just in case. This years transcript is so populated, its easy to miss. Please update us if your messaging on the Wmr changes at all in the morning. :)

@Strugglinmommy:I don’t have a as of date on my 2021 transcripts they are still N/A besides my 2021 wage and income transcripts. However my 2020 and 2019 account transcripts have a as of June 6 2022 on them which makes zero sense.

For anyone still waiting that was missing W2s, 1099s or any other proof of income withholding. I finally got a hold of Someone at the IRS today after being on hold 1 hour and 10 minutes. I will quickly give you a rundown of what has happened so far with my account. I was filed and accepted on February 26th, in mid March I received a letter requesting proof of withholding for a 1099 they said they didn’t have my accountant faxed over the paper that same day and I have had no update on transcripts ever since. 2 weeks ago my wage transcripts for 2021 updated. The women I spoke to received it since my wage and income transcripts for 2021 updated.however she said it still has not processed. She proceeded to tell me that they have an enormous backlog and are understaffed and that it could take up to 16 weeks to process which brings us to October and to not call back untill October if I don’t see anything by then. This is insane and completely unacceptable.

Okay so I finally got through to somebody at the IRS today I was on hold for an hour and 10 minutes though. Brief history of my account I filed and accepted February 26th received letter requesting 1099 proof of withholding in mid March faxed over information on the same day recently my wage and income transcripts updated for 2021 with all my wages as they should be but none of my other transcripts for 2021 updated. The woman I spoke to today said she did not doubt that they got the information they needed then but my return is still processing. She also reiterated due to the massive backlog and staff shortages things were just taking extra long and our returns could actually take up to 16 weeks which would bring us to October she told me don’t even bother calling back until October. This is insane and totally unacceptable.
