When can you file your taxes?
You can submit your tax return before the IRS begins processing as early as the first week of the year with many tax preparation providers. You don’t need to wait until the IRS begins accepting tax returns but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January. Tax returns filed before the IRS officially opens sit in a “queue” and are held until the IRS officially begins accepting tax returns.
Your tax return may be selected in a test batch. If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early. This can result in early direct deposits depending on the payment provider you select. Our cycle chart will update with key dates including test batch dates.
When does the IRS accept tax returns?
The IRS usually opens around the third week of January each year. They announce the opening date early in January.
The IRS began accepting tax returns this year on January 29, 2024.
When is the IRS test batch?
If you file your tax return early, it may be sent to the IRS in a test batch before the IRS has officially opened for the year. It is usually a week before the date the IRS begins accepting tax returns. This has resulted in refunds in the past that can be posted by direct deposit as early as the day after tax season opens.
When will I get my tax refund?
Early filers whose returns are accepted in a test batch can anticipate a tax refund as early as the day after the IRS opens the January filing season if your return was in the test batch. The day that the IRS deposits refunds varies for regular returns but we notice trends based on the method you chose to file and select to direct deposit. Where is the IRS refund cycle chart?
The official tax refund cycle chart published by the IRS has been eliminated and replaced with IRS FAQ. Refund cycle charts are now published by independent websites and vary slightly.

@Kris: I think the way I’ve read it on here, is that it really depends on your bank. SBBT or whatever you go through for your fees will update tomorrow (it wont do it today) since your DDD 2/23. (same as mine) I use chime, so people are saying later that afternoon on 2/22 it will hit my back. Hope thats help! :)

DD of 2/23 however, I thought deposits are sent 2 days early regardless if your bank releases the money? With President’s day that would put 2/22 sent on Friday last week and 2/23 send Today. Anyone?

Hey y’all. Got a ddd of 2/23. I do have fees being taken from sbtg but they haven’t received anything yet. Looks like the numbers on there are green though. And they wasn’t the other day. I think they used to do a circle graph, don’t see that anymore. My bank usually deposits 2 days ahead of time. So jw if y’all think I’ll get it early or not until 23rd or after?

@Vannyy: First of all I’ve seen some in your situation say that their WMR stated the same thing at first as did the offset line however several days later the message on WMR changed to show the amount actually taken and the remaining balance. Have you went back and rechecked your WMR today? All I can say is recheck until it shows you something different, watch for a letter explaining and watch transcripts for changes. I see people saying some offsets take several weeks to reflect there. If you have any remaining balance that was not taken it WILL BE DEPOSITED TO YOU ON 2/23. I can not say that they didn’t take your entire refund but I hope not and if they didn’t they certainly WILL send the rest to you on 2/23. Unfortunately until then there is not really any advice we can give you. I’m sorry this is so stressful for you and everyone else that I being held up. I really wish you the best of luck!

I have on transcripts 846 2/23 with my amount, on wmr says refund approved for direct deposit but not that date of 2/23 . I do have topic 203 . I’ve been calling offset and i dont have debt or offset. On Thursday i did owe state but on Friday i got my state refund minus what i owed . Someone told me here i wouldn’t get my refund on 2/23. Help

Just got the infamous text message from republic bank, letting me know my refund was sent to my account, and to allow 1 to 5 business for it to show up.

I’m not sure why but this filing season has gone by much faster than it has ever in my experience. I filed on Tuesday 2/15 and checked WMR today and I have a DD of 2/23!! So happy because I was expecting it to be another week at least. I have always been weekly but maybe I’ve been switched to a daily. I’ll check my transcripts to see.
