When can you file your taxes?
You can submit your tax return before the IRS begins processing as early as the first week of the year with many tax preparation providers. You don’t need to wait until the IRS begins accepting tax returns but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January. Tax returns filed before the IRS officially opens sit in a āqueueā and are held until the IRS officially begins accepting tax returns.
Your tax return may be selected in a test batch. If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early. This can result in early direct deposits depending on the payment provider you select. Our cycle chart will update with key dates including test batch dates.
When does the IRS accept tax returns?
The IRS usually opens around the third week of January each year. They announce the opening date early in January.
The IRS will begin accepting tax returns on January 26, 2026.
When is the IRS test batch?
If you file your tax return early, it may be sent to the IRS in a test batch before the IRS has officially opened for the year. It is usually a week before the date the IRS begins accepting tax returns. This has resulted in refunds in the past that can be posted by direct deposit as early as the day after tax season opens.
When will I get my tax refund?
Early filers whose returns are accepted in a test batch can anticipate a tax refund as early as the day after the IRS opens the January filing season if your return was in the test batch. The day that the IRS deposits refunds varies for regular returns but we notice trends based on the method you chose to file and select to direct deposit. @Elle: you went into processing on the 8th week of 2025. You are either an 05 daily or more likely on 05 weekly.
If by chance no one sees their money tomorrow. we all know at least we will see our money either Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. Usually NHB you will have it by Tuesday. It’s coming but slowly.

@Path25: My DDD is also 2/24. We should receive a deposit on 2/24 if our dates are the same. In the agreement it states cross river banks will process the RPS. The refunds should come as a normal ACH the DDD.

Has anybody filed taxes thru the IRS website this year or last? Is it totally free?? I’m seriously thinking about not filing with TT anymore just cause of their middle man (sbtpg). Been going thru them holding my money when they for sure have it for too many years. And Chime advertises faithfully that they deposit “2 days early”. TODAY HAS BEEN 2 DAYS EARLY!!! š and still NOTHING

So this in no way is a preaching moment but for next year folk letās do this:
1. Call the offset number before filing or any mail that comes from the IRS. Address it.
2. Do not fall for the refund advances. Always read the fine print first before you go through with it.
3. I only know these things because I HAVE ENDURED ALL OF THESE THINGS and Iāve had the rug pulled out from under me.

@87 manemane: I have seen a lot of people still get there taxes 5 days early for the ones that applied for the 5 days early and even if they were rejected they are still getting it early. At least that’s what I’m seeing with a lot of people. They get an email saying they will not be charged $25 and they will not get 5 days early but they still are getting it early which is ironic bc SBTPG he’s giving the opposite even though fees are paid, they are holding money
@Curioustaxpayer: it’s not just the emerald card that you need to be considering or TurboTax or h&R block… At least when it comes to when you get your deposit. You need to be considering the bank. Where is the money coming from? Which bank? Bc as of right now SBTPG is holding people’s funds even though the IRS has sent over the refund DAYS B4 the DDD date AND the bank has collected their fees! I switch from Jackson Hewitt bc of their ways last year to TT. I refuse to give business to any company and or bank that does not do right by their customers. Same thing will happen this year for next year

Hi everyone. I’ve been with ya’ll for over 10 years. Filed HR Block with fees. Always been a weekly. Filed Feb 10th and to my surprise for the first year DDD 2/24. Normally a weds or Thurs. Good luck to us all!
Don’t know what it is on this forum. I ask a question and am not even acknowledged. Just as I tried signing in and it wouldn’t let me. Reported it and got one response and when I said it still would t let me, I had no other responses. This will probably be my last year coming to the forum. I used to love it here. No matter what people answered questions. I’ve asked questions for 3 days with zero responses. Have a blessed night.

Anyone receive a deposit from hr block with fees taken out? I filed through them online and had fees taken out. Refund approved just waiting on deposit.
Iāve been filing with them over the past 4 years but used to pay fees up front. Prior to that used tax at and was able to check republic bank. Not sure what site to go to to check for be block or if thatās even an option. I know they use pathways bank to take fees but the site doesnāt seem to be for hr block filers to check status.
@Barbz: Same here. Your taxes are going to cross river bank. I was relieved after reading the information in my tax return yesterday. Even if the 5 days early gets rejected.
@Quana: yes, sbtpg doesnāt release funds until the night before or day of. Credit karma doesnāt hold. Itās all sbtpg
Filed with TT, 5 days early, fees taken out, pather, DDD 02/24, cash app. Got the email Thursday confirming that they couldnāt expedite the funds so we wouldnāt be charged the $25. WMR & TT says 02/24 but Santa Barbra canāt find my account. Nothing has hit cash app yet. It seems as tho most of the 02/24 people who tried to get the 5 days early havenāt gotten their money yet. I see so many 02/26 people getting theirs earlier than us.
I had a DDD of 2/22 last yr and had credit karma. Fees taken out and had the advance. I didn’t get my deposit until 324am DDD 2/22. So most likely with ppl in this same boat, we’ll be waiting until the day of with CK. I’m not even checking anymore š¤·š¾āāļø
@Kymomof3: you and I are in the same boat. I think itāll still go through Cross River Bank. My deposit date is 2/24 as well. Next year, I will not opt into the 5 day early option. May even possibly change tax preparation companies.

Received 846 Tuesday night. Message from turbo tax Thursday they couldnāt expedite refund no $25 fee will be charged. Fees will still be taken out. But SBTG still is not funded for DDD of 2/24???? Will it still go to them or cross river?? Confused!!
