key tax return and refund dates
When can you file your taxes?
You can submit your tax return before the IRS begins processing as early as the first week of the year with many tax preparation providers. You don’t need to wait until the IRS begins accepting tax returns but you must have the proper forms and paperwork. Some forms are not available until mid January. Tax returns filed before the IRS officially opens sit in a “queue” and are held until the IRS officially begins accepting tax returns.
Your tax return may be selected in a test batch. If you e-file early and it sits in queue, your return may be sent to the IRS early. This can result in early direct deposits depending on the payment provider you select. Our cycle chart will update with key dates including test batch dates.
When does the IRS accept tax returns?
The IRS usually opens around the third week of January each year. They announce the opening date early in January.
The IRS will begin accepting tax returns in 2025 on January 27th.
When is the IRS test batch?
If you file your tax return early, it may be sent to the IRS in a test batch before the IRS has officially opened for the year. It is usually a week before the date the IRS begins accepting tax returns. This has resulted in refunds in the past that can be posted by direct deposit as early as the day after tax season opens.
When will I get my tax refund?
Early filers whose returns are accepted in a test batch can anticipate a tax refund as early as the day after the IRS opens the January filing season if your return was in the test batch. The day that the IRS deposits refunds varies for regular returns but we notice trends based on the method you chose to file and select to direct deposit. You can use our tax refund calendar or refund cycle chart to help find out when you will get your tax refund.
Where is the IRS refund cycle chart?
The official tax refund cycle chart published by the IRS has been eliminated and replaced with IRS FAQ. Refund cycle charts are now published by independent websites and vary slightly.
A good reference to use is the When To Expect My Refund cycle chart that is published early each year by the College Investor.

@Late filing: It absolutely does not mean that.
@Justatiredmama: yes, it has done this to everyone I have seen on this site this year
@Suzyq85$: If you are weekly you will not see the 846 added to your transcript until Friday.
@Justatiredmama: Yes, normal.
Still looking for some advice lol. I filed on Feb 3rd close to midnight. Feb 4th, my return was accepted. I have checked and signed into the IRS site to see my transcript and it says my return hasn’t been processed yet. Is this normal? It has never been like this before. Thanks
@Fabfammamma: NO, federal refunds are subject to federal offsets…the only way a state offset would show up on federal is if a judgment had been put in to change it to a federal, and you’d know…it would be very rare, and probably in conjunction with a serious felony conviction
I wonder who will be the first one here to see their 846 after midnight?
No politics.
@Suzyq85$: means you will get a deposit on the February 24th
@Dd: Tuesday WMR updates are rare, especially the Tuesday following a holiday.
@Amuz1234: my past years transcripts show the same as of date. This happened last year and I was so worried, but everything went through fine, so I’m not stressing it this year. I think they check to reconcile certain credits or something.
@Suzyq85$: we may update Friday to 846 and get money next week but I
Hope it is earlier but we are close veryyy close
@Dd: lol the 846 chant ; line dance ; video; and all of the above will be live in action right here on igotmyrefund.com starting around midnight and it won’t end until tax season is done lol…846 here we comeeeee!!!
@Suzyq85$: being 05 prolly weekly so most likely Friday, or the next friday…but anything possible
@FloridaMotherof3: de nada
I was so looking forward to the 846 chant this morning. I can’t believe me no one updated.
@Fabfammamma: but my federal taxes are not affected by the state offset inhad 581 taken from my VA STATE TAXES which was my whole amount ; but I don’t have a federal offset I’ve called the line and I don’t see any offset codes in my irs transcript ;

@VA757pather: Thank you!
@Fabfammamma: no the offset will not show until after you return is processed. Depending on what type of debt it is you may be able to call the offset line.
@Fabfammamma: There is a link on this site that explains every code ; the link may be right above this thread if you are on a mobile device the link says “TRANSCRIPT CODES”, I think I was right though but check that link out it will explain all of them
@Fabfammamma: 150 -tax filed
806 – withholdings

@Suzyq85$: soon on friday

Please and thank you

@Fabfammamma: I mines didn’t I had an offset from a city in VIRGINIA ; it didn’t show up on the irs offset line or on transcripts I’m assuming it was because it was a minor state debt
Good morning
If I had a state offset, would it show on my transcripts
Here is a reminder that if you are a secondary filer on a return (not listed first), your transcript may look different than the primary on the return.
@harrya: Normal. Have not processed yet.
