James ……..that was actually super helpful as well. I guess all I’m wondering now that hasn’t been answered is what does the status show for everyone on the where’s my refund page……I’m still at the 2nd bar refund approved and it says refund will be sent by 2/27……..so I’m just wanting to know if the ppl who are getting their refunds released early are at 2 bars or 3. Thanks girl. I don’t have a major bank anymore. I bank with Simple which is partnered with BBVA Compass and I haven’t seen one single person that has mentioned them but me. Prolly not a good sign. lol. Last 2 years I got my refund on 2-22. I asked my bank a couple days ago and they said they don’t hold it. As soon as it comes through it releases.
That’s why I was wondering if ANY of these people who have already gotten their refunds have the 3rd bar on the WMR or if it’s still on the 2nd approved bar…..knowing that would help out a lot. Thanks again for the reply Steph :)
Does anyone know why the netspend and Amex cards are quicker than direct deposit to a bank account since the direct deposit to bank account is the option that even the IRS and the IGMR site recommend……thanks for any help wirh this. Just wondering if I should switch it up next year since it’s clearly too late to do anything about it now. Lol.

I’m confused a little. I thought bank direct deposit was supposed to be the fastest. That’s what everyone recommended when I was deciding, and even what the IRS recommends……but you got your refund at 10pm on Sunday and I will have to wait till Wednesday. Normally I wouldn’t even care except I have important things to pay on the 26th…….I also went through free tax USA. I filed on 1/16. Accepted 1/16. Changed to path message and updated all the same as yours. Received the DDD of 2-27 on 2-23 just like you. I’m even self employed like you. So why did you get your refund on the Amex card quicker?
Also wondering, when you check the WMR is it still on 2 bars saying it’s been approved and will be sent by 2-17 or has it already updated to the final bar saying refund sent? This is important to know because if it hasn’t updated to the last bar saying sent then maybe I still have a shot at getting mine early in my bank account. Mine is still on the 2nd bar saying approved and deposit will be sent by 2-27.
If anyone else knows any of these answers it would be greatly appreciated to know. Thanks so much for reading if you got this far!
